Chapter 515: Chapter 486: If You Don’t Speak Up, I’ll Give the Opportunity to Someone Else_1

17:37

The printer churned out a hefty stack of documents, and Mr. Qu, brimming with excitement, handed the materials to Zhou Ning.

"Boss, lots of forensic reports have come in, take a look."

At those words, Liu Yufei, Fang Mu, Mr. Yang, and Mr. Zhao all crowded around.

After a glance through the reports, Zhou Ning’s eyes widened, and Liu Yufei urged anxiously:

"Come on, what does it say? Your expression is making me even more anxious."

Zhou Ning quickly responded:

"1. Soil samples taken from the vehicle’s tires, floor mats, and the pond at Jiulaofeng Park, after comparison, belong to the same category;

2. The substances extracted from He Jiahong’s lungs and those found in the water samples from Jiulaofeng Park during the diatom test are exactly the same; she inhaled water in the pond at Jiulaofeng Park;

3. One male DNA found on the steering wheel, inside the car seat, and within the victim’s body, after comparison, is an exact match with Liu Nian’s DNA; the fingernail found in the crevice of the car window was identified as He Jiahong’s, and Liu Nian’s DNA was also collected from the outside edge of the nail;

4. The other two male DNAs with a kinship relationship found inside the victim, after comparison, are an exact match with Zhu Xiaoguang and Zhu Xiaoming; fingerprints of four people found on the Polaroids are Zhu Xiaoguang, Zhu Xiaoming, Liu Nian, and He Jiahong;

5. DNAs of Zhu Xiaoguang, Zhu Xiaoming, and He Jiahong were found in samples from the vehicle’s steering wheel, car window glass, and seat cushions; He Jiahong’s hair was found on the seat cushion;

6. Blood found in the floor crevices of the first crime scene at the Salt Company Community, after comparison, belongs to He Jiahong; and a mixed Methylene Blue solution with Liu Nian’s, Zhu Xiaoguang’s, and Zhu Xiaoming’s DNAs was collected on the back of the floorboard sent for inspection.

7. This is the most shocking to me, Zhu Xiaoming and Zhu Xiaoguang have no blood relationship with Zhu Yongping, but have a biological mother-son relationship with Zhang Xiangfen; Liu Nian has no blood relationship with Zhang Xiangfang, but has a biological father-son relationship with Liu Kai."

Upon hearing this, Mr. Zhao’s eyes bulged in disbelief.

"Damn, I guessed it right; this family is a real mess. Twins with different fathers and the biological father unknown, just picking any divorced man as the scapegoat; a son that seems to be of one’s flesh and blood but actually isn’t, and instead is the result of the little husband’s affair... is this... isn’t this too dramatic?"

Liu Yufei let out a sigh of relief, took the report, and saw the place Zhou Ning had marked, vigorously nodding her head.

"Alright, everything has surfaced, the rest doesn’t matter much in relation to the case; Liu Nian and the Zhu brothers are definitely the murderers, it’s just a matter of who masterminded it, who helped them cover up the evidence after the incident, and who controlled the police station chief, even the entire police station, to shield them and had the forensic doctor forge the autopsy report. We need to investigate who gave those orders."

Fang Mu nodded, leaned in closer, and asked.

"Director Liu, you give the orders. Are we going to break each of them individually, or are we splitting into groups to interrogate our respective targets?"

Liu Yufei thought for a moment.

"First, we’ll eat our boxed meals, then question them one by one. Just like Director Zhou always says, ’from the simple to the complicated,’ we’ll follow the same order, starting with the Zhu brothers and breaking each of them down; after all, such paternity results are hard for these privileged young masters to accept."

Mr. Zhao jumped up and hurriedly ran to the door to distribute the boxed meals.

"Listen to Director Liu, hurry up and eat. I personally ordered these boxed meals; who knows what you guys buy—I still have an upset stomach."

Everyone ate quickly without chatter; Mr. Zhao’s boxed meals might not have been much more expensive, but each dish inside was delicate, with tastes mixed perfectly, far from the usual boxed meal quality.

Fang Mu ate the fastest, finishing in less than two minutes, and stood up directly.

"I’ll go bring the people over. Mr. Shan, follow and act as the clerk, okay? Director Liu and I will conduct the interrogations."

Liu Yufei nodded, and Mr. Shan hastened his movements, a bashful and bitter smile on his face.

"Looks like my hand is going to be ruined today, making so many records for all these people. Isn’t there some software that can do this job?"

Mr. Qu pulled out a mouse from his pocket and handed it to Mr. Shan.

"Try using this in a bit; just hold it down for voice input. It can recognize several dozen local dialects, including the Ludong dialect. We’ve tried it a few times for recording meetings and it’s not bad after some improvements; we haven’t yet tried it during interrogations. If there are errors, just amend them promptly. It has a learning function for names, so once you correct it, it’ll know the next time."

Mr. Shan’s eyes lit up as he eagerly took it.

"Thank you, Mr. Qu. This is just in time. Is it something developed by you guys?"

Mr. Qu waved his hand.

"It’s designed by a software company; there are some weaknesses, but eventually, they came to the Qin Da Research and Development Center to collaborate with us. I just helped improve it a bit. This is just for experimenting, so give us feedback."

Mr. Shan eagerly inquired about how to use the mouse and then quickly followed Liu Yufei and Fang Mu to the interrogation room.

At this time, in the observation room, Mr. Qu had already installed a temporary camera in the next interrogation room and had even connected a computer here to monitor the facial expressions of the person being interrogated. He had also connected a speaker, so there was no need to listen with headphones.

Mr. Zhao pulled a chair over for Zhou Ning and handed him a cup of coffee. He too held a cup and sat beside Zhou Ning, leisurely letting out a long sigh.

"That’s it, we’ve done what we had to. The culprits have been identified, and now let’s just enjoy the interrogation conducted by Liu Da and his team. It’s just like watching a live-action movie."

Mr. Yang slapped Mr. Zhao on the back and began to laugh, with everyone’s face carrying a relaxed expression, except for Zhou Ning, whose brows were still tightly furrowed.

Seeing Zhou Ning’s expression, Mr. Zhao immediately dropped his smile.

"What’s up, Zhou Xiaozhou, do you think they still have room to recant their confessions?"

Zhou Ning shook his head.

"I just don’t understand why He Jiahong got into their car that night, even being threatened to go upstairs. Could it be that they had some dirt on her? As for Tang Jianghai, how much did he know? The gathering, the withdrawal of money, going out to eat again, just how did he happen to run into He Jiahong at the food street? Could all this really be a coincidence?"

Mr. Zhao was silent for a moment, then placed his hand on Zhou Ning’s shoulder.

"I saw Liu Yufei has brought Tang Jianghai here too. They probably plan to interrogate him again. Not to mention anything else, they must know something about Liu Kai and his son Liu Nian. I think the reason Liu Nian was not our focus at the beginning was because of Liu Kai’s cover-up."

Zhou Ning sighed and did not speak further. He had a feeling that people in the track and field team knew some things, more or less, but would definitely not stand up and speak out. After all, Liu Nian’s father was the coach, and his mother was the vice-principal. Within the family, his uncles and aunts held such statuses.

In such a small town, it was nearly the same as having absolute control of everything. Perhaps this was the reason He Jiahong dared not resist.

Without waiting too long, Zhu Xiaoming was brought in. He had lost all the defiance he had in the morning, and his eyes were filled with panic, especially when his handcuffs were removed and replaced with the chained ones attached to the chair. He became even more flustered and swallowed nervously.

Fang Mu stood up and placed a photo in front of Zhu Xiaoming.

"There are several people who need to be interrogated, and I do not want to waste time with you. Let’s cut to the chase. Both of your brothers, your parents, the family of three from Liu Nian’s household, even Chief Zheng from Zhuquan Police Station and Doctor Zhang, they have all been arrested, and we need to complete the interrogations overnight.

So let’s not delay each other’s time. Without solid evidence, we could not have closed our net. Speak up voluntarily, at least clarify the major and minor roles. You still have a chance for leniency. Of course, if you do not seize this opportunity, we don’t mind either."

Let’s take a look, though the face is not shown, but in this photo, the female is He Jiahong, and the male is you. All the characteristics match, like the scar from your inguinal hernia surgery, your skin color, and the color of your hair, of course, we can also reveal some information to you that you might not know."

Zhu Xiaoming was taken aback, looking at Fang Mu with a puzzled expression. Clearly, the last few words had grabbed his attention.

"What information?"

Fang Mu smiled.

"Do you want to know?"

Zhu Xiaoming nodded subconsciously but, after nodding, appeared somewhat irritated, as if he had cooperated too much. Fang Mu showed the DNA test report to Zhu Xiaoming.

"It’s not much related to the case, but I think since we have done a comparison, I should inform you. Your mother is Zhang Xiangfen, no mistake there but Zhu Yongping is not your father. The biological father of you and Zhu Xiaoguang would be a carrier of a DNA defect that is recessively inherited, including genes for albinism in the family."

Upon hearing this, Zhu Xiaoming’s expression hardened, and he was in disbelief, even scoffing.

"Pfft, you’re trying to fool me, right? My dad told me he has mixed-race genes. That’s why my older brother and I have lighter hair and skin closer to Caucasians..."

Before Zhu Xiaoming could finish, the report was placed in front of him. Although he was not well-educated, he could still understand the last line, stating the non-biological father-son relationship, leaving Zhu Xiaoming to swallow the rest of his words.

Seeing this, Fang Mu exchanged a glance with Liu Yufei and continued in an indifferent tone:

"Going back twenty years, why would your mother choose your father, a man with no money, no status, and a widower with a child to marry? Such a simple reason, I don’t need to tell you. Besides, isn’t it true that your father and older brother doted on you two excessively, while being very strict with Zhu Xiaoxia? Even though you haven’t read much and aren’t ambitious, having dealt with society, you couldn’t possibly be ignorant of the meaning behind the words ’to destroy by indulging’, right? Your reckless behavior has your father and brother’s unconditional support, but this isn’t love."

Zhu Xiaoming looked somewhat undone, the words from Fang Mu making his gaze drift. After all, everything matched exactly what Fang Mu had said. Fang Mu sighed.

"Alright, let’s talk in detail. Neighbors in the Salt Company Community saw you abduct He Jiahong into the building. They were just too scared to say anything before, especially since the police station told them to shut up. Moreover, during our investigation, we found a video in Jiulaofeng Park where you forced He Jiahong into the water, all the threatening words Liu Nian said, we have the video evidence under control.

We’re giving you a chance to talk now because we want to know the exact process of how He Jiahong was killed. Who decided to wait in the community for He Jiahong? Who smashed He Jiahong’s head with a brick? Who decided to dispose of the body and stage a suicide? No offense, but you’re not capable of planning all this. Speak up!"

Zhu Xiaoming stared at Fang Mu, gesturing frantically with his hands:

"It wasn’t me, I didn’t hit anyone, I tried to stop them, but I couldn’t persuade them, so... so that’s why..."

Fang Mu leaned in close, resting his hands on the edge of the table, staring intently at Zhu Xiaoming’s face with a smile on his.

"Don’t squeeze it out like toothpaste. If you want to talk, do it quickly, or I’ll give this opportunity to speak to the other two. What do you think they’ll say, huh?"
