Chapter 514: Chapter 485 The Substitute Crown Prince_1
Zhou Ning raised his hand to stop Liu Yufei, who was about to lose her temper, and suddenly changed his original plan. Facing such a provocative person, there was no need to be discreet. He knew everything clearly in his heart. Zhou Ning smiled at Liu Kai.
"Sorry, we’re not looking for you, nor for the students, and we won’t interfere with your training. We’re just here for him, to collect his fingerprints and blood samples. Of course, he’ll need to come with us for a while. As for why, are you sure you want me to explain it here?"
Liu Kai, with a face of nonchalance, wasn’t intimidated by Zhou Ning’s words. He sneered and raised his hand to block his son behind him.
"I’m just a coach. These kids have shed blood and sweat following me, striving for good results. I know too well what each of them has sacrificed. I can’t do much and I’m not that gentle. You want to use my son to threaten me? Make me help fabricate evidence?"
Mr. Zhao laughed, swaggered to the front, waved his hands, and said with a smile:
"Buddy, quit with the dramatics. You don’t need to wait for the vice principal’s wife to come and save you. Police duty is at stake. If we weren’t wearing these uniforms, we would have knocked you down a long time ago and not let you yap this long.
"What Liu Nian did, what you did, what your family did, you’re more than clear about it. You all can disperse now. If you want to learn about the rules of obstruction of justice, I can enlighten you, and I won’t say anything else. As for the college entrance exam, don’t even think about participating."
At those words, everyone was stunned, no longer eager to rush forward as before.
From the direction of the teaching building, a group of people was already rushing over, their voices audible before their arrival.
"What are you doing? Where’s the security? Are they dead? Police can’t just barge in. Everybody, get out!"
This person, Zhou Ning and the others had guessed, was Liu Nian’s mother, Zhang Xiangfen. With such an arrogant attitude, she clearly didn’t take the police seriously. Of course, she said that to put on a facade for herself. Liu Yufei waved her hand behind her.
"I don’t want to waste words. For a criminal case, summoning a suspect for sampling and identification is perfectly reasonable. We are performing official duties. If you’re dissatisfied with our work procedure, or have a complaint against me personally, you can report it to my superiors. Take note of the reporting phone number, 12389, and my badge number is 020228.
"Liu Nian is already over eighteen and not a minor. Besides, we have already notified his parents and the school. As for the details of the case investigation, I can’t disclose that at the moment. Of course, if you intend to obstruct enforcement of the law or incite violence against it, that’s a different matter."
Zhang Xiangfen grabbed Liu Kai, who was about to do something, and reached out to Liu Yufei.
"I want to know where Liu Nian is being taken and when the investigation will be completed?"
Liu Yufei smiled.
"According to normal procedure, after collecting blood and fingerprints, we wait for the comparison report. If the DNA comparison fails and the statement has no issues, Liu Nian will be cleared of suspicion and can be returned at any time. Bring Liu Nian out."
The athletic team’s members were all staring intently at Liu Kai, as if waiting for his command, ready to surge forward at any moment.
And standing in the middle, Liu Nian involuntarily took a step back, looking towards Zhang Xiangfen in disbelief.
"I won’t go!"
Zhang Xiangfen seemed about to say something. Just as she was about to speak, Liu Yufei had already gestured with her hand. Someone came over to pull at Liu Nian’s arm. Liu Nian still fixed his gaze on his parents, like a puppy abandoned by its owner, with neither of them showing much guilt or remorse.
"Get in the car for the sampling first!"
Liu Yufei’s tone was indifferent, but the detectives did not go easy on him, lifting Liu Nian from both sides and heading toward the Iveco. Even though he was robust and tall, after all, he was just an eighteen-year-old student and couldn’t break free from Fang Mu and the others’ hold as they took him to the car.
As seconds and minutes ticked by, no one moved, even as the school bell started to ring and the athletic team members remained behind Liu Kai. However, the atmosphere began to take on a strange twist.
Previously, they might have thought Liu Kai was trying earnestly to protect them, so they didn’t back down. But now the situation had changed. The police weren’t looking for them, just calling Liu Nian aside, but Liu Kai kept including them, with a clear intent to stir things up. They weren’t brainless.
Especially since they only needed samples from Liu Nian and hadn’t troubled them, the team members began to whisper among themselves.
At that moment, Zhou Ning’s phone rang. He received a comparison photo via WeChat, with two lines of text below:
Boss, the comparison is complete. Of the incomplete fingerprints found on the car window, three are Liu Nian’s, and the blood sample is also fully collected. As for the DNA comparison, we’ll have to wait. What do we do now?
Zhou Ning handed his phone to Liu Yufei, who glanced at it and a smile spread across her lips. She beckoned Liu Kai and Zhang Xiangfen with her fingers. The two looked at each other and stepped forward.
"Just to let you know, since you are Liu Nian’s parents and school authorities, after comparing fingerprints, we found Liu Nian’s on the suspect’s vehicle. We need to wait further for DNA test results, and we need to take him now. Alright, everyone withdraw."
She turned to leave as she spoke.
Liu Kai rushed up close to Liu Yufei, seemingly about to grab her. But thinking better of it, he quickly released his hand and whispered:
"Comrade police, can we talk?"
Liu Yufei raised an eyebrow?
"Talk about what?"
Zhang Xiangfen also leaned closer, her expression a mix of sincerity and obligingness.
"Let’s go to my office first. Even if we have to take the child away, we don’t oppose it. But I would like to have a word with you alone, and then you do what you need to do, alright?"
Liu Yufei glanced at the Iveco, gestured to Fang Mu, and walked away.
"Get out of the car, we can talk here!"
When Liu Yufei said this, Zhang Xiangfen’s eyes lit up. Zhou Ning slightly bowed her head, not for any other reason, but because anyone with eyes could see what Zhang Xiangfen and Liu Kai meant. They were attempting to offer a bribe. If they went to the office and left evidence of bribery, there would be much to argue about.
The situation could also take another direction. People’s attention would shift from the case to the Qindao City Bureau Special Case Team police demanding bribes, coercing, and even implicating Liu Nian as being guilty.
But they didn’t realize that the IVECO had been outfitted with dashcams in the front, inside, and back, because of a close call last time. This was to be prepared for any unexpected needs, something Liu Yufei of course knew full well.
When Zhou Ning came back to her senses, Fang Mu had already pulled Liu Nian out of the car. The young man’s face was dark, and he looked disdainfully at Liu Yufei. The driver Mr. Wang and Mr. Zhao distanced themselves from the vehicle, leaving only Liu Yufei and the couple Zhang Xiangfen to enter the car.
Everyone, as if having been trained, kept their distance from the vehicle and turned their backs to the IVECO, waiting. It wasn’t long before Liu Yufei opened the car door and gestured to Fang Mu, not coming out herself and instead trapping the couple inside.
She raised her hand, holding up a card, and shook it at the crowd.
"Hurry up, Zhang Xiangfen and Liu Kai are offering a bribe. Get the content of the recording equipment’s storage card from inside the car copied immediately. They don’t have to get out; take them both in custody. Also, draw their blood and have it tested right away."
This sudden turn of events left the two spouses following them completely dumbfounded. After all the smooth talk, how did things change so abruptly? And how on earth were there cameras inside the car? Was the female cop ranting nonsense, or had they been set up from the start?
Zhang Xiangfen was now totally flustered, squinting her eyes and kicking violently at Liu Yufei without any regard for her own image or her family’s interests.
"You did this on purpose? You don’t hurry to take away my son, but trap us instead? You’re the one soliciting bribes, don’t try to pin anything on me."
Liu Yufei simply sidestepped slightly, then leaned against the edge of the car door frame, trapping Zhang Xiangfen’s leg. The detectives had already pounced on them, and without a word from Liu Yufei, they quickly handcuffed her hands behind her back.
Liu Yufei laughed outright.
"Great, the family is all together now. First, let’s draw blood and send it all for testing. I’m curious—although Liu Nian shares 1/4 blood relation with Zhu Xiaoguang and Zhu Xiaoming, why is there no match in the DNA results? Could it be that Liu Nian was adopted?"
At this statement, Zhang Xiangfen frowned slightly and spat at Liu Yufei.
"Cut the crap. Don’t think you’ve got anything on me. What I said earlier was crystal clear—this is entrapment, you deliberately induced me to give you the card. This is extortion, and you’re confused if you think handcuffing me was easy. If you want to let me go, you’ll have to peel off your own skin!"
Liu Yufei casually cleaned her ear and then glanced at Liu Kai, whose face was filled with shock and unable to hide his panic. Without saying another word, she just waved her hand dismissively.
"Get in touch, and if Mr. Shan and the others have finished the escort, have them come over quickly. I don’t want these two riding with us back in the IVECO. Director Zhou has a thing about cleanliness; using their vehicle to transport suspects is really bad luck!"
Zhou Ning rubbed his nose, thinking Liu Yufei’s ability to deflect blame was only surpassed by Xu Dayuan’s.
After a short wait, the blood testing team returned for the third time. Seeing Liu Yufei almost in tears, they didn’t waste words and quickly took their leave again.
On Jingping Avenue outside of the high school, several police cars rushed in, sirens wailing. This time, the security guards proactively lifted the barrier, and the police cars drove straight to the training grounds. Mr. Shan led his team quickly towards them, and Fang Mu had already begun to give orders—to separately escort Zhang Xiangfen, Liu Kai, and Liu Nian onto the vehicles.
The police cars sped off again shortly thereafter, and the athletes who had been watching didn’t rush forward this time. One young girl, looking puzzled, asked,
"Officer, what exactly is going on here? Are they the killers of He Jiahong?"
Mr. Zhao turned back to look at her and gave a smile.
"Continue with your training as usual and don’t be affected by this incident. Your school will make necessary adjustments soon, and the coach will be temporarily replaced. As for the case, once it’s adjudicated, the police will make a public announcement."
With complex looks in their eyes, the team members watched as Liu Yufei gestured for everyone to get in the car.
When the IVECO finally left the high school, there was no sign of any other school leaders; clearly, they wanted nothing to do with the incident.
Mr. Zhao rubbed his belly and looked at Liu Yufei with a mournful expression.
"Mrs. Fei, it’s past noon. Are you going to go straight back to the interrogation? These past few days, working on the case with you, I haven’t had a proper meal. Everything now depends on the test results, so how about we go eat first? Leaving those folks to stew for a bit might actually be beneficial."
Liu Yufei smiled genuinely and replied,
"You’re right, there’s no rush now. Let’s wait for the test results, a surprise interrogation could be more effective after letting them cool their heels. By the way, Director Zhou, do you think Liu Nian could be the other culprit?"
Zhou Ning put down her phone, pausing the image on the screen which was the shadow of a man by a pond next to a black car.
"Judging from the height, weight, and voice analysis, it’s very possible that it could be Liu Nian. I think the DNA results will be conclusive evidence. However, I can’t figure out why there is no DNA link between Liu Nian and the Zhu brothers."
Mr. Zhao grinned, nudging Zhou Ning.
"This family has such a complex web of relationships. Even twins can find someone to take the fall for them. I wouldn’t be surprised by any outcome at this point. Maybe Liu Nian was adopted, or perhaps there was a child substitution at birth."
Gao Tie didn’t follow and looked up in confusion, moving closer.
"Child substitution? Whose child was switched?"
