Chapter 767: Chapter 767: Pretending

Unbearably quiet, unbearably boring.

This was the first time Matthew had met someone so dull and clueless. He couldn’t help sighing, "That’s not how you chase a girl. If you don’t tell her, how will she know you like her?"

"You’ve got that saying all wrong," James retorted, "It should be, ’If you don’t say it, how can she reject you?’"

Matthew was taken aback, his smile strangled.

Who’d thought anyone was capable of being so self-deprecating?

With a matter-of-fact look on his face, James added, "Oh, and you’re seven."

Defending himself, Matthew retorted, "So what if I’m seven? I’m always with Hannah; I can have a say."

Seeing James’s disbelief, he hurriedly tried proving himself. "For instance, I know Hannah doesn’t like Uncle Louis or Uncle Jackie."

James looked at Matthew, presumably waiting for him to continue.

But Matthew stopped there, patting James’s shoulder. "I like you more than them."

James paused a while before simply replying, "Thank you."

Matthew suddenly felt like the topic had taken a wrong turn, just as there was a commotion from the village entrance.

Hannah and the others returned.

Without a second thought, Matthew got up and ran over.

The moment Hannah opened her eyes, she was met with a pair of clean, shining eyes filled with gentleness.

"Sister, we’re here."

Louis was sat honestly to the side, his position not changing at all.

Hannah rubbed her head, caught sight of the bloody bandages on the boy from her peripheral vision, said nothing, and straight away got off the vehicle.

Louis slightly tightened his grip, feeling the familiar sting in his injury. His smile remained unchanged as he murmured, "So useless."

Matthew came running over, remembering halfway to pull James along too.

He managed to remind him, "You need to be more proactive. We can’t let my sister be fooled by that pretty-boy!"

Remaining silent, James followed. However, his gaze remained constantly on that delicate figure.

The moment their eyes met, a rare smile sprouted on his usually expressionless face, both handsome and warm.

Hannah was taken aback at first, not expecting someone to be here waiting for her. She automatically responded with a smile.

Just then, Matthew had already run up to Hannah’s side. His words oddly filled with a coquettish flavor, "Why did you take so long?"

Hannah ruffled his hair. "You’ve been good, waiting for me here?"

"Of course." Matthew reacted arrogantly, turning his head. He patted James’s arm, pushing him forward. "Not just me. Brother Landon has been waiting for you for a long time." 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Hannah raised her eyebrows, "Brother?"

"Yeah, calling him brother is friendlier." Matthew nodded and muttered under his breath as he saw Louis disembark from the car, "Show-off."

Louis walked over, still looking slightly pale and weak. Looking ever so innocent, as though a small white flower, he offered a conspicuously goody-goody smile, "Mr. Landon is here too."

James simply nodded in response.

Helplessly, Matthew hurriedly clarified, "Brother Landon is here waiting for sister to return."

"Really?" Louis kept his smile, his gaze lingering on James’s face for a few seconds.

Matthew said, "Of course. Uncle Louis, you’re so much older, how could you let sister accompany you to the hospital."

An ’uncle,’ and a ’brother.’
