Chapter 721: Chapter 721: Morning Temper
Even though his term was the shortest, he established the imperial family’s dominant position for the next hundred years, accomplished countless achievements. Unfortunately, rumors later circulated that he had deserted halfway, betraying the oath he made to the imperial family.
The imperial family therefore issued a kill-on-sight order, and in the end, he was killed in the desolate wilderness by the first princess.
The imperial family announced that all the credit will be attributed to the first princess, stating that only she is the true guardian of the stars.
The third commander became the scapegoat of the entire empire and, for many years afterwards, a taboo that no one dared to mention.
At four in the morning, faint hints of light were peeking through the night canopy, and the entire city was gradually coming to life.
Hannah opened her eyes. The feeling of a blade piercing her chest echoed in her dream, the chill of it still lingering.
She recollected the scenes from her dreams. Perhaps too much time had passed, and she couldn’t remember many things clearly anymore.
Keeping a promise, being used, being killed, and being stepped on to rise to power.
Even thinking about it now didn’t trigger any regrets. It was all foreseen, after all. But he always scolded her, calling her foolish.
If a man is dead, why should he still keep such an ethereal promise?
She remained silent.
He scolded her for being old-fashioned, just like the people of the imperial family. People should live for themselves.
She always refrained from explaining too much about the past. Only when he nagged her to annoyance would she respond, "That’s called repayment of debt. I owed them." Everyone thinks so.
He fell silent. As he left, he threw in a word, "Luckily, I was born in freedom, without such worries."
Truly, it was a worry, besides, the debts of the past have been paid, and what she promised to do had been done. The sad part is that the imperial family still refuses to let her go, always assuming that she wouldn’t dare retaliate because of that one promise.
How naive.
A slight curve appeared at the corner of her mouth, and a faint smile glinted in her eyes. Hannah stirred slightly, cuddling into the man’s hug, and looking up at his handsome face.
She couldn’t help but lift her hand, her fingertips lightly brushing the tip of the man’s nose.
Seeing signs that he was waking up, she quickly drew her hand back and shut her eyes, feigning sleep.
After waiting for a while without any signs of Arnold waking up, Hannah slowly reopened her eyes.
Before she could react, she met a pair of deep, black eyes, its depth hiding untold dangers.
Hannah blinked her eyes innocently and gave a sheepish smile. Just as she was about to start explaining, the man sealed her lips.
It was just a brief kiss.
When he slightly pulled away, Arnold rested his forehead against Hannah’s, his fingertips fondling her tender skin, his expression pensive.
In the end, he only sighed softly, sat up, and went to the bathroom.
When Arnold came out, Hannah had already changed her clothes and was sitting in front of the mirror, trying to put on her earrings.
Maybe she had just woken up and her fingers felt a bit clumsy. After several unsuccessful attempts, she threw the earrings irritably onto the table.
The round pearl decorated with a few tiny diamonds looked exceptionally valuable.
Arnold walked over, picked up the pearl earrings that Hannah had thrown on the table, and looked down at her newly made-up face, the upward curve of her eyes revealing an enticing charm.
He pinched Hannah’s tender earlobe and teased, "Are you angry over this?"
Leaning against Arnold, Hannah lazily played with her fingers, the rasp in her voice sounding soft, she complained, "It’s called morning moodiness."
