Chapter 679: Chapter 679: Can’t Forget Her?
She casually started the conversation, Tiffany smiled and said, "George, when did you change your watch? I remember you’ve been wearing the one I bought for you. Is it not suitable?"
Tiffany Lynch had a good sense of style, and the things she picked were great, but the watch on George River’s wrist was obviously an old model from a few years ago and not particularly expensive.
At least not something people from their kind of family background would appreciate.
George didn’t seem to have any reaction, "The previous one broke, so I just picked up something to wear."
A hint of sourness arose within Tiffany, but she could only play dumb with a smile on her face, "Is that so."
George didn’t respond further, causing the atmosphere between the two to become awkward and icy.
At least it didn’t feel as intimate as before.
They didn’t behave like a couple.
Tiffany lowered her head, stirring up her emotions, knowing how to win a man’s sympathy, and how to reclaim something for herself.
At least she couldn’t lose now.
Soon, soft sobs echoed from the other side of the table, sounding like choked cries.
George sighed and looked over to find Tiffany’s eyes red-rimmed, he frowned but his voice softened a bit, "What’s wrong?"
Those words were like a switch, letting tears fall onto the back of her hand. She kept her head low, "George, I... I just feel you’ve been acting weird lately. I know you’re busy, but is there something you can’t tell me?"
Crying, her head lifted showing eyes full of sorrow, "George, I’m your girlfriend, aren’t I? Yet, at times, I feel like there’s a huge distance between us."
George’s expression underwent a momentary change, but he quickly returned to normal. He moved over and sat next to Tiffany, sighing, "You’re overthinking things."
Tiffany shook her head, her tightly clenched lips turning pale, "George, tell me, is it because of... her?"
She didn’t even dare to utter the name, her voice incredibly soft. Her eyes welled up with tears, displaying her vulnerability, hoping to soften his heart.
George however, avoided her gaze, his voice slightly unnatural, "Who are you talking about?"
Tiffany reached out, tentatively placing her hand on the back of his, feeling him stiffen for a moment. She let out a bitter laugh, "George, I left you for five years. I shouldn’t have expected too much. But do you know, if I could, I would’ve much rather stayed by your side back then. Instead of going to a place where I knew no one. Do you have any idea how hard those five years were for me?"
Whenever they talked about the past, George would soften a bit.
However, his gaze fell on the watch on his wrist and he forced himself to stay calm.
In his life, he owned too much to too many people.
Seeing George’s lack of response, Tiffany’s heart sank. But she managed to keep her voice weak, "George, the truth is, I already know."
George replied on instinct, "Know what?"
Tiffany shook her head, her smile bitter, her voice trembling, "I know, Hannah Winter was your ex-girlfriend. You two were together for two years, but now... can’t you forget her?"
She had always been confident, believing that even if Hannah had been with George for two years, it was nothing compared to their childhood friendship.
They were supposed to be of equal social status. If it weren’t for the problems her family encountered, forcing her to leave, how could Hannah have had the chance to get close to George?
Nothing but a despicable substitute.
