Chapter 540: Chapter 540: I Don’t Believe It
"Louis Snyder, everyone has the right to lie, but the prerequisite is that you can guarantee to maintain this lie for a lifetime."
Having said that, she refused to even spare him a glance and prepared to get up and leave.
Louis suddenly panicked, he swiftly reached out to tug her sleeve. As he lifted his head, his hat fell off, revealing a head of messy and soft black hair.
His gaze was as pitiful as a pet to be abandoned, his voice trembling, "Hannah, are you suspecting that I am the one who hurt Hayes Edwards, aren’t you?"
The last two words were spoken with all his strength, but when they reached his lips, they were as light as the fluttering wings of a butterfly.
It seemed that if he tried a little bit harder, he would end up with a completely different answer.
Hannah turned her head back. Against the light, her eyes shone bright like the stars, "Louis Snyder, then you tell me, did you or did you not?"
She leaned forward, although there was a distance between them, Louis felt her almost within his reach, close enough to catch a whiff of her unique, obscure fragrance if he just slightly exerted himself.
It was something he had yearned for so long and now having obtained it, he found it only increased his anxiety.
Fear of loss.
The hand clasping her sleeve gradually lost strength, yet he was unwilling to let go. He lowered his eyelids, his eyelashes trembling faintly, as if filled with sorrow, "Hannah... don’t you trust me?"
She remained silent, waiting for the young man’s answer.
The fabric he grasped turned cold as ice in his hand, but he held on, like holding on to a kite string, always afraid it would fly away.
After a long moment, the young man sighed—his face revealing a bitter smile, his eyes seemingly wet with unshed tears— "Hannah, I didn’t."
He really didn’t.
He didn’t do it, really not.
He closed his eyes, shaking his head repeatedly.
The next second, a warm feeling spread over his head.
The girl gently caressed the boy’s head, with a comforting touch, again and again, gestures so tender it made one linger, unwilling to let go.
When he opened his eyes again, meeting her gaze, he seemed to see again the warmth and tenderness of that night.
However, the girl’s next words left him feeling as if he had fallen into an icy pit.
"Really? But I don’t believe you."
She sighed softly, speaking such cold words that pushed him towards the abyss. But the smile on her face was always so warm that it shattered one’s heart.
The hand holding onto her skirt fell weakly. The boy seemed unable to believe this response he got. He tried to deceive himself, "Hannah, you’re joking with me, right? Hayes Edwards’ injury... Hayes Edwards... I really didn’t do it, really."
She just looked at him, it took a long time before she said, "Louis Snyder, do you believe what you’re saying?"
They say people can often deceive others but not themselves.
But a boy like Louis Snyder could fool both others and himself.
The boy lowered his head, seemingly laughing silently. When he lifted his head again, his face was devoid of any sadness. His innocent smile was as if nothing had happened, "Hannah, don’t ruin our relationship over an outsider, okay?"
He grabbed her hand, longing in his eyes.
Hannah kept a straight face, "There’s no outsider, and there’s no relationship."
The boy smiled slightly, "Hannah, regardless of what you think, I believe there is."
He stood up after saying this, obediently following Hannah like a loyal dog, not leaving her side even for a moment, "Even if I didn’t do it, I can go and apologize to Hayes Edwards if Hannah wants."
Hannah, waiting for the bus on the roadside, looked back at the boy and smiled lightly, "Apologize? Then you’ll probably be cursed to death by Hayes Edward’s fans, won’t you?"
