Chapter 539: Chapter 539 Really Don’t Understand

After saying that, he looked again at Hannah, sitting next to his hospital bed.

She was focusing intently on the apple she was peeling. The sunlight from the window shone partially on her hair, seemingly gilding it with a golden glow that softened her features and warmed her complexion.

If it wasn’t for the sharp knife in her hand, this might have been a beautiful scene.

Hannah didn’t lift her head, continuing her slow movements, "Was it an accident?"

"What else could it be?" Hayes Edwards instinctively wanted to scratch his head, then remembered that he hadn’t washed it in several days and dropped his hand in distaste, "Actually, my manager checked the surveillance footage on that day, but we didn’t find anything unusual. Perhaps it was really an accident?"

Only after the whole apple skin was peeled and set aside, did Hannah look up at the man in the bed.

Even though Hayes Edwards often had the demeanor of a troublemaker, he was mostly simple-minded, set in his ways, and did whatever he wanted. He wouldn’t overthink certain matters.

She thought of someone. This incident was reminiscent of his style.

Hannah put the peeled apple on the table and stood up, "I’m leaving now."

Hayes Edwards instinctively got up. Midway through the motion, he fell back heavily onto the bed, pounding the mattress in frustration, "You’re just going to leave?"

"What else?" Hannah reached the doorway and turned back to look at him, "Don’t tell me you’re afraid of being in the hospital alone overnight and want me to stay?"

"Who’s afraid?" Hayes Edwards pouted, "Go, just go!"

After saying that, he didn’t receive any response for a while. Burying his head in the blanket until it became uncomfortable, he finally couldn’t help but pop out for a look.

The ward was empty. There was no sound in the corridor, let alone any sign of Hannah.

She really did leave!

Frustrated, Hayes Edwards pounded on the bed. His gaze happened to catch the apple Hannah left neatly sliced on the table.

Somehow, the apple had been carved into the shape of a rabbit.

"I am not a child anymore." Hays Edwards muttered. Truthfully though, he picked up the apple.

Thinking about it, he still couldn’t bear to bite into it, instead gazing at it foolishly with a smile, as he held it in his palm.

After leaving the hospital, Hannah didn’t go far, settling instead in a quiet place to sit.

Before long, a figure emerged from a corner, seeming to consider the girl’s silhouette for a moment before finally deciding to sit down.

Hannah just watched the hustle and bustle on the distant road, not giving the person beside her a glance. Her voice was indifferent, "Why did you do it?"

Louis Snyder wore a hat that concealed his expression. His hands tightened in his pockets, his face pulling into a seemingly innocent smile, "Sister, what are you talking about?"

Hannah turned her head and met the boy’s black eyes with a gentle smile.

The setting sun painted a beautiful picture behind her.

"Louis, you know what I’m talking about, right?"

Her words were soft, like someone patiently coaxing a child. The way her eyes met the warm light was dangerously captivating.

Louis clenched his fist tighter, his knuckles turning pale and his smile stretching into something strained and faintly bitter, "Sister, I truly don’t understand."

Don’t understand what?

She didn’t understand why you’d side with that person.

All she did was sigh softly and shake her head, no longer looking at the boy next to her.

With her face to the side, the lingering orange twilight fell on her forehead, nose, and chin, perfectly outlining her exquisite features with a soft curve.
