Chapter 457: Chapter 457 Copyright Issues
"Shouldn’t the copyright issues of each song be sorted out before they are released for our selection? Now you’re telling us suddenly that we can’t use them anymore. What are we supposed to do?"
They had already begun practicing for days, and they were supposed to perform on stage in three days. But now they were told they couldn’t perform.
Without the music, are they supposed to perform a mime on stage?
Or should they count "one, two, three, four" and dance to that rhythm?
Sunny Lee was the first one who couldn’t help but cry, her eyes turning pleadingly towards Hannah.
Hannah was sucking on a lollipop. From the moment she heard the producer’s news, her face showed no change.
Cold as ice.
As if she had anticipated this scene a long time ago.
After Lucy’s words, the producer’s face didn’t look too good either. But considering Hannah was present, he put on a brave face, "Indeed, this was an oversight from our team. We had initially reached an agreement with them, but they backed out at the last minute, leaving us with no choice."
The copyright of the song was overseas, and it was a song that had made it to the charts last year. Many people had initially eyed it, but it was Hannah who ended up choosing it.
The producer’s excuse was clearly unconvincing to Lucy. Once angered, she would disregard anyone’s dignity. "Hannah Winter, can’t you say something?"
As expected, a shudder ran through the producer’s body as Hannah’s name was mentioned.
Hannah looked over, crunching into her lollipop, "Is it a genuine copyright issue, or is someone playing tricks behind the scenes?"
She was spot on.
The producer wiped non-existent sweat from his face, "This is genuinely a copyright issue, I wouldn’t dare to deceive you, you know that. I wouldn’t dare to offend you."
It was not feigned.
But money can make the devil work for you.
If the "devil" says he won’t budge, perhaps it is because the money isn’t enough.
The producer’s sudden respectful attitude startled Sunny Lee, but she didn’t say anything.
She just felt safer by Hannah’s side.
Upon hearing Hannah’s question, Lucy began to understand a little more, her tone becoming even more sharp, "So what should we do about this? Are we really expected to perform a mime without accompaniment on stage?"
The producer chuckled, "Well, we’ve actually already thought of a solution. You can choose any song from the previous shows to perform, we’ve already purchased the copyright for all of them, so there won’t be any issues."
The producer’s suggestion only made Lucy angrier. "That’s absolute rubbish!" She slammed the table and stood up.
Even Sunny Lee chimed in, "Those songs have already been performed by others, the audience will definitely think we’re just going through the motions, that will affect our score."
The issue even Sunny Lee pointed out was of course obvious to the producer.
"You can also modify it yourselves. If that doesn’t work out, you can ask Mr. Landon for help. He gets along well with Miss Winter, he’s sure to help you." The producer’s voice was dismissive while the smile never left his face.
Even though he didn’t get mad when Lucy was cursing at him.
Lucy scoffed, "Modify it? Why don’t you suggest we write one ourselves."
Producer: "That’s not impossible, if you can pull it off."
Lucy wanted to hit somebody, but Sunny Lee held her back.
Both of them turned to look at Hannah instinctively.
This time, the trio was formed freely.
