Chapter 354: Chapter 354: Still Loves Me

Old Sir River had Arnold Simmons escorted out, and George River caught up with him just a few steps later.

The servants were somewhat embarrassed and decided to leave first after a moment’s thought.

George River stood before Arnold Simmons, his face filled with gloom, "Arnold Simmons, what exactly is your relationship with Hannah Winter?"

The last four words were almost spat out through gritted teeth by George River.

He hated Arnold Simmons, and if he had initially only disliked him because of Jimmy Simmons, he now had another reason to do so.

Hannah.

Arnold Simmons lightly scanned the man in front of him, with a hint of indifference. He saw through his thoughts in a glance, raised his hand to straighten his cuffs, and replied calmly, "What makes you think you have the right to question me about this?"

George River was filled with anger, but little did he know the fury inside Arnold Simmons was even greater. Years of hardship had caused him to remain composed on the surface, despite a raging turmoil inside.

Towards George River, Arnold Simmons started to wonder why his niece had ever loved such a man so dearly.

The more he thought about it, the deeper his jealousy became.

The calmness of the man had provoked George River to a great extent. No matter how composed he was, he found himself at a disadvantage when up against Arnold Simmons.

He was not Arnold Simmons’ match.

This was the phrase he’d heard the most since Arnold arrived, and now the boy he’d once humiliated and beaten had climbed above him.

And even took his woman.

George River suddenly started to laugh, his laughter heavy with sarcasm, "Arnold Simmons, a man like you who can use and kill even his own kin for his own benefits, could you ever love someone truly?"

George River had already decided that Arnold Simmons was only toying with Hannah.

Only this thought could provide him with some consolation.

Arnold Simmons subconsciously reached into his pocket and flipped open his lighter. His smile was as cold as a winter breeze, "After so many years, I thought you would’ve grown wiser. But turns out, you’re still as foolish as ever."

He recited each word slowly.

His gaze drifted over George River, indifferent yet loaded with meaning.

George River stiffened, his face growing colder, laughing sarcastically, "So what? No matter how stupid I am, Hannah Winter still loves me."

He paused and then provocatively added, "You probably don’t know this, but Hannah Winter loves me so much that even knowing she’s only a replacement, she still willingly stays by my side."

After spitting these words out, upon meeting Arnold Simmons’ dark and brooding gaze, George River couldn’t help but falter a bit.

Even though he always looked down on Arnold Simmons – the illegitimate child, whenever he met Arnold Simmons’ gaze, that feeling of being targeted by a wild beast in the darkness was always spine-chilling and impossible to ignore.

George River was indeed different from Arnold Simmons.

He had a smooth life and never faced any hard tide. Even when he took over the River Family’s business, Old Sir River was there to support it.

Arnold Simmons, however, was different. He fought his way up on his own, coming from a looked-down upon illegitimate child to now serving the position as the head of the Simmons Family.

A pet raised in a greenhouse, no matter how noble its lineage is, always lacks a bit of the tenacity and ambition necessary in the business battlefield.

Arnold Simmons, conversely, had all of those.

George River was deliberately trying to provoke Arnold Simmons, and he got what he wanted.

Even though Arnold Simmons knew his niece was not the type to truly deeply love anyone, he still couldn’t suppress the extreme jealousy and anger stirring inside his bones.
