Chapter 1240: Chapter 1240: Deepening Affection
The pure moonlight cascaded down, landing on the treetops, the ground, and upon the girl’s lovely visage.
The neckline couldn’t hide her delicate and exquisite collarbones, and her slender neck tilted slightly upward, revealing skin as smooth and inviting as jade.
Arnold Simmons chuckled softly and bowed his head closer to her face, planting a kiss on her forehead and pinching her soft cheek, "Do we still need to grow closer?"
His fingertips burned with warmth, turning her cheeks red.
Hannah tried to dodge his hand, but seeing she couldn’t, she simply buried herself in his chest again, wrapping her arms tightly around his waist.
Through the two layers of clothing, she could still feel the fine physique hidden underneath.
"I think we do."
Her voice was full of coquettishness.
There was the sound of wind in the distance, but Arnold’s response was nowhere to be heard.
She stealthily looked up to find the man’s eyes twinkling with laughter.
As if he had been waiting for her all along.
Arnold reached out and cradled her face, his voice full of meaning, "Hmm, I think we do."
She tried to dodge again, but this time she was firmly held in his embrace.
Gentle kisses landed on her forehead, at the corner of her eyes, on her cheeks, moving bit by bit backward, until finally reaching the white jade of her earlobe.
She tried to push him away but failed, weakly calling out "Arnold," yet before her voice could fade, it vanished between their lips.
The wind rose at night, blowing in gusts until it seemed unable to stop.
The distant woods made a rustling noise, and under the solitary moon, they looked unspeakably desolate.
Arnold pulled a blanket from the sofa, wrapped her up, and then held her entirely in his arms.
"The wind is picking up, shall I take you back?"
Hannah lazily leaned on his shoulder, gazing at the deep night sky, her head felt heavy and her voice hoarse and sweet, "No, there’s a meteor shower tonight, and I haven’t seen it yet."
Stars dotted the sky, but the wind only allowed for a foggy moon to be seen—no meteor shower in sight.
Arnold withdrew his gaze and patiently coaxed her, "There’s no meteor shower tonight."
She didn’t believe it, her tone firm, "There definitely is."
Half-asleep, she had barely finished speaking when she couldn’t resist the exhaustion of her body and closed her eyes, murmuring softly, "There is, definitely."
Arnold went along with her, weaving a lie, "Yes, there is. Look, such a beautiful meteor shower."
As he held her up high, she looked down at him with a playful smile and said, "Yes, it’s beautiful."
The moon rose in the east, and the stars fell.
Tonight’s elusive starlight was found entirely in his eyes.
Bright and splendid, shining just for her.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and pecked his face softly, murmuring, "The stars are beautiful, but you are even more handsome than the stars."
Arnold paused, looking down at the girl who buried herself again in his arms, his drooping eyes and brows filled with mirth.
This night went by exquisitely slow.
At dawn, the sun had only just shown its face when it was promptly veiled by dark clouds, carried by the cold wind.
Lightning roiled in the distant horizon, and the impending autumn rain threatened with fury. Raindrops smashed against the ground, creating a misty haze.
The mist swirled, obscuring the rolling green hills, shaking the silhouettes of trees as if they would be snapped by the cold wind at any moment.
One autumn rain brings the cold.
Even though the villa’s servants promptly closed windows and doors, they couldn’t fend off the cold’s assault.
The roses in the garden that had bloomed just last night couldn’t withstand the autumn rain, and in a short time, they were battered, their vibrant petals strewn all over the ground.
