Chapter 1217: Chapter 1217: Can’t Move Her
As for the problem that arose in that plan, it wouldn’t be difficult for the River Clan to solve, given their strength.
Moreover, their cooperation wasn’t limited to just the South City project.
It was just a matter of mutual benefit.
The following two days for both parties revolved around nothing but cooperation and interest.
Beyond that, there really wasn’t anything else for them to talk about.
After finishing a topic, George River casually brought up, "Were those women earlier called by you?"
Jimmy Simmons’s hand paused while playing with his lighter; he glanced sideways and upon catching George’s expression, immediately understood.
He found it laughable.
Just because George enjoyed playing with stand-in lovers, he assumed the whole world of men did too?
He sneered inwardly, but his face remained casual, "The manager called them over, not one to my liking. What about you, taken a fancy to any?"
George River frowned.
His visage was stern, and his silence often gave off a cold, abstinent impression, signaling a man of principles.
But in reality, it was quite the opposite.
He was the type who reveled in crafting a perfect image for himself.
Foolish devotion, faithfulness, all were, ironically, what Jimmy Simmons looked down upon the most.
"If you really have taken a fancy to someone, don’t be shy. I’ll have the manager send them over again."
"Jimmy Simmons." George’s eyes filled with displeasure, "You should know that I..."
"You like Hannah Winter, right?" Jimmy interjected nonchalantly, with an unserious smile on his face, "I know, you’re the sentimental type, not like the rest of us."
George River stopped talking.
Jimmy poured himself a drink, keeping one glass in hand and pushing the other towards George, "Sadly, your sentiment doesn’t seem to move her."
George’s grip on the glass tightened, his expression cooling, yet he remained silent.
He feigned composure, but inside he felt worse than anyone.
Jimmy watched as if enjoying a show.
If he was unhappy, he had to make sure others were unhappy with him.
He couldn’t be the only one suffering from unrequited desires, could he?
Jimmy laughed silently to himself and drained his glass.
The cooperation between the River and Simmons clans continued.
Since Arnold Simmons had already declared that he would hand over the Simmons Clan to Jimmy, even the dissatisfied shareholders had to put on a show of support.
But such a show was only skin-deep; Jimmy still faced constraints from all sides within the company.
The monthly routine meetings felt more like surveillance by the shareholders.
Jimmy lived as though under Arnold’s shadow, unable to escape no matter what he did.
The tension and irritability made the top office floor a nerve-wracking place, with people treating him as if he were some sort of demon.
Eventually, Jimmy simply reverted to his former lifestyle.
Engaging in whatever was thrilling, he spent his days lingering in booze and only bothered with the progress of his plan with George when he had nothing better to do.
He was waiting for the right moment, and so was George.
Until then, they both had to stay put under Arnold’s shadow.
In the club, after George had left, Jimmy made a call to gather his old gang of rowdy friends.
The private room buzzed with activity again, as bottle after bottle on the table was opened one after another.
After drinking a couple of glasses, Jimmy overheard people discussing Hannah.
Releasing a new song, shooting a movie, Arnold was promoting her like she was some kind of deity.
Hearing this, Jimmy put down his glass, reached for his jacket on the side, put it on, and said, "I’m off. Put today’s expenses on my tab."
