Chapter 1162: Chapter 1162 Resolutely Opposed
"They say you fancy Arnold Simmons’s girlfriend, the star named Hannah Winter."
Upon hearing this, George River’s eyes finally showed a trace of turbulence, his hand resting on the edge of the bed tightened slightly, his knuckles turning white.
Seeing George in this state, Old Sir River’s calm demeanor was intimidating without a need for anger, "You really are muddled, to go so far as to fall out with Arnold over a woman!"
Old Sir River’s health hadn’t been great over the past year. Originally, he was the type who never admitted to aging, always holding on to the power of the company tightly. He was also anxious about George, wanting to have a say in everything, and his recent illness was largely due to overwork.
As Old Sir River’s only grandson and the sole heir of the River Clan, it could be said that all his hopes and efforts were poured into him.
Old Sir River had barely waited for his grandson to admit his mistakes and turn back, originally thinking he had improved, only to find now that he had stirred up such a scandal.
If the incident at the banquet hadn’t gotten out, he would still be in the dark even now.
"George, how could you dare!" Old Sir River became angry, his eyes, although somewhat clouded, could still see through too much.
George stood up, walked over to Old Sir River, and looked down, much like he did every time he admitted his wrongs in the past, only this time his tone turned somewhat forceful, "Grandfather, Hannah Winter is different, she’s the woman I’ve decided to marry."
"Foolish," Old Sir River pointed at him, scolding, "What’s her status? She’s already set to be engaged to Arnold. After making such a scene, do you really plan to pit the entire River Clan against him?"
The entire business community knew Arnold’s capabilities and his strategies far exceeded those of his peers. His strength was enough for people to overlook his status as a love child, willingly calling him "Second Master."
If it had been earlier, Old Sir River could have boasted that he was no less capable than Arnold if he were twenty years younger. But now... after witnessing Arnold’s tactics in dealing with the Simmons Clan, even he had to concede.
Jimmy Simmons’s return had many waiting to see the downfall of the head of the Simmons Family, but in the end... it was Jimmy who became a puppet, being controlled by others.
How could this not vex him.
Old Sir River was adamantly opposed to George falling out with Arnold precisely because he understood Arnold’s strategies all too well and also knew his own grandson’s capabilities.
But George didn’t understand these things, nor did he wish to.
In his eyes, it seemed that his grandfather had grown fearful of Arnold and had admitted defeat even before the real battle had begun.
He would not accept this.
"Grandfather, I’ve always followed your lead since I was a child, but on this matter, I absolutely will not give in. You’ve always taught me, whether as a person or as a businessman, one should not give up out of fear of failure but stand firm, lest the Simmons Clan forever trample over our River Clan."
He would not lose to Arnold, be it in business or in love.
"You..." Old Sir River’s hand trembled as he pointed, "Are you blaming me, blaming me for standing in your way?"
George clenched his fists, "Grandfather, I wouldn’t dare."
"Wouldn’t dare? There’s nothing you wouldn’t dare to do."
The impassioned speech he had given moments ago was certainly daunting, but having been in business for so many years, Old Sir River could not be easily moved by a couple of fiery statements.
"Can you claim that you haven’t mixed any personal feelings into this matter?"
George, with his head bowed, remained silent.
