Chapter 1017: Chapter 1017: If It’s You
As if something embarrassing had been brought up, his cheeks quickly flushed with two patches of crimson, showing none of the serious, strict teacher’s demeanor he had just had in the recording studio.
Hannah raised her eyes to glance at him and joked, "If Mr. Landon never says anything, the girl who becomes your girlfriend will probably have quite the headache."
Across the river, neon lights flickered, reflecting on the surface of the water, shimmering and glistening, before they all finally fell upon those pure and clear black pupils.
James Landon stared intently before suddenly asking, "If it were you, would you?"
Hannah looked over and asked him, "Would what?"
James Landon pursed his lips, "Would you find it headache-inducing?"
If you think so, I could change.
He thought he could let go, but only now did he realize. Some words, if left unspoken, truly can lead to regret.
Day after day, he thought about it.
He had written her so many songs, yet he dared not send even one.
Even his brother laughed at him, saying if he had really let go, he wouldn’t worry about these issues anymore.
A smile emerged in Hannah’s eyes, perhaps catching the light of the neon signs, and even her voice seemed especially pleasant at that moment, streaming into his heart like a clear spring, but it made his body tense up.
"Does Mr. Landon like me?"
This question was finally laid out in the open.
He moved his lips, what should have been an incredibly simple question, but at this moment it just wouldn’t come out, "I... like."
The last word was as heavy as a thousand pounds.
Hannah, however, understood, as a smile blossomed around her lips, "Everyone has an idealized perfect lover in their heart, and subconsciously people will seek out those who stir their hearts according to that standard. It’s just that reality always shatters all those beautiful fantasies, and eventually everything returns to the ordinary."
Just like love at first sight usually happens when you’re young, and when you reach a certain age, mentioning those words makes even themselves feel ridiculous.
The tumultuous romance is not about the life-and-death separations in stories, but always contains passion, impulse, and romance.
Yet, ultimately, people must return to the ordinariness of everyday life.
She spoke slowly, "Mr. Landon, you’re very lucky, your first crush was me, who must in many ways fit your fantasy of a lover—perfect and exquisite in appearance, a gift for singing, the ability to write lyrics and compose music, confident, dazzling, completely opposite to you, yet serendipitously alike."
James Landon remained silent, just looking up quietly at the person before him, at her lively eyebrows and eyes, the confidence in her gaze, shining like a myriad of stars.
As unchanging as when he first saw her.
She was right.
He liked her; what he liked most was the way she stood on stage, always confident and exuding charm.
It was like the most beautiful dream he had as a child.
He was silent, and then quietly said, "So, is first love always doomed to fizzle out?"
Hannah thought for a moment, then said, "The line between youthful joy and growing weary of each other may be just a hair’s breadth."
"I understand." He stood up and headed to the restroom.
Hannah just gave the now empty seat a glance, turned her head, and her gaze fell upon the river outside the window.
The goldfish quietly slipped out of a pocket and snatched a pastry from the table, then looked curiously in the direction James Landon had left and wondered, "Why did the master say all that to him?"
Hannah took a sip of the warm coffee and sighed, "I fear he’s too captivated by my beauty and falling too deeply."
