Kui Yi didn’t call Jiang Cheng, but sent Zhang Zhaowei’s address to him through a message. Soon, he got the reply, “Who are you gonna call? Ghostbusters!” This was a code between Jiang Cheng and Kui Yi. Kui Yi believed the ghost wouldn’t send such an ironic message.
He planned to leave. As he turned, the scene caused his heart to tremble. The door of the morgue was closed, and Wang Changguo was gone. When did that happen?
Kui Yi didn’t put his guard down, but he didn’t notice this. Instantly, Kui Yi switched off his phone and knelt in the dark. Something must have happened…
With Wang Changguo’s cowardly nature, he wouldn’t do something like this. Kui Yi’s brain spun. The most plausible explanations appeared in his mind. First, and most likely, Wang Changguo was dead. He was silently murdered by the ghost. Second, Wang Changguo discovered something, and he closed the door to the morgue when he sneaked away. Kui Yi remembered telling the travellers that the ghost would normally not kill consecutively in a short period. Wang Changguo probably remembered that. He left him behind so that he could escape. The bastard…
Kui Yi knew that Wang Changguo would abandon him if given the chance. Because he’d do the same. Regardless, one thing was certain. The ghost was with him inside the morgue!
Kui Yi held his breath. Every cell in his body was on alert. The darkness was like a black swamp, swallowing his sight.
In less than a minute, Kui Yi’s clothes were soaked in cold sweat. This was different when he faced Jiang Cheng. Jiang Cheng wished to accomplish his goals, but this ghost just wanted to kill him.
He covered the phone screen so the light wouldn’t expose him. He pulled up a number and called it. This was Wang Changguo’s number. He planned to wait for Wang Changguo’s phone to ring so that it would attract the ghost’s attention. If Wang Changguo were still alive, he would be hiding somewhere, like he was.
Hopefully, he didn’t switch off his phone. Kui Yi frowned.
A few seconds later…
“I don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I just want you for my own…”
…
A classic echoed in the morgue. The festive atmosphere made people want to sway to the beat. Kui Yi didn’t think someone would use this song as a ringtone. However, what shocked him most was the song's location. It was not outside the morgue, but it came from behind him!
Kui Yi jumped up instantly. He turned in the air and landed with his body facing the morgue cabinets. He didn’t care about making noises. He aimed the flashlight at the cabinets. His breathing was uneven as beads of sweat dripped down his face.
The ringtone… came from inside the drawer…
How was that possible? Why would Wang Changguo’s phone be inside one of the drawers? Based on his personality, he would never voluntarily approach the cabinets. However, at that moment, the joyous music called after Kui Yi from the cabinet. To make things worse, even after Kui Yi hung up, the music kept playing.
Kui Yi confirmed the phone’s location. It was the third row from the left and the second-to-last drawer. It was rather secluded.
He had no idea where he found the courage to pull open the drawer. His brain wasn’t thinking. He used the power of the door. Thankfully, it responded. Scales covered his body, including his exposed neck. He looked terrifying. His upper body expanded. This was all the power he could borrow. In this state, he could easily kill a Komodo Dragon.
The giant drawer was pulled open. There was a corpse covered by a white cloth. The feet faced outwards.
Kui Yi pulled back the white cloth, panting heavily. When he saw the phone gripped in the dead man’s hand, Kui Yi’s pupils trembled. This was Wang Changguo. He was dead. As the last bit of the cloth fell off, the revelation caused Kui Yi to stumble backwards. Wang Changguo’s head was gone.
The exposed stump around the neck had torn tendons. It looked like a bite mark. However, they were not at a zoo. This was the handiwork of the ghost. It had to be!
After the initial fear, confusion entered Kui Yi’s gaze. He studied Wang Changguo’s body. Something didn’t feel right. Then, it dawned on him.
Theoretically, Wang Changguo was just killed. Therefore, his corpse should still be warm. However, when he touched the body, Wang Changuo’s corpse was icy cool. He didn’t just die. He had been dead for some time already!
When… Jiang Cheng’s group left him alone in the basement, he was already murdered! Wang Changguo, who had been following the man, was the ghost! No wonder they didn’t encounter the ghost; she was already among them!
This was bad…
The next second, the happy ringtone shattered the silence. Kui Yi saw the phone in the headless corpse’s hand light up again.
The screen… showed Kui Yi’s phone number.
