It had the silhouette of a woman. She wore an old patient’s garb, the kind with blue-and-white stripes. The woman turned her head. Her hair was a mess. However, what shocked Kui Yi was the woman’s eyes and the finger that landed on her lips.

Shh…

The woman was warning him and Lin Wan ‘Er to be quiet. Kui Yi instantly realised that she was the mad nurse. The thing curled up in bed… was the ghost! 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

If they interacted with the thing in bed, he and Lin Wan ‘Er would be in danger. Based on the nurse’s posture, the scratching sound they heard was probably her digging her nails into the ground. This ghost… was very persistent.

However, since the ghost had been exposed, Kui Yi planned to leave. Nevertheless, as he retreated, he noticed that Lin Wan ‘Er had not moved. What was she doing?

Fire surged through his heart. If this woman didn’t open the door to Room 906 on her own, they wouldn’t have fallen into the ghost’s trap. Granted, Lin Wan ‘Er saw through the ghost’s trick at the last moment. However, she was the reason they were exposed to the danger in the first place.

After a quick consideration, Kui Yi reached forward to grab her. It was not because he was kind, but he believed this woman was different from Lin Feng. He didn’t care when someone as selfish as Lin Feng died. However, Lin Wan ‘Er was different. Other than her rash behaviour this time, her performance was commendable. She could keep up with him and saw through certain illusions to reveal things that might inspire him. This was very rare. Her being alive would benefit him and the team.

If his guess were correct, the mission was coming to an end. The ghost would become more aggressive. Having a person like Lin Wan ‘Er around him was beneficial. Plus… Lin Wan ‘Er seemed to know Jiang Cheng. And Kui Yi had suspicions about Jiang Cheng. He didn’t act like a newbie.

The thoughts collided in seconds. Just as Kui Yi’s finger was about to touch Lin Wan ‘Er’s arm, his gaze narrowed. He noticed that… the nurse under the bed was not looking at him or Lin Wan ‘Er or the ghost in bed. She was… staring at the window.

Despite the bad lighting, Kui Yi could detect the fear in her eyes. She was afraid of the window. What was there?

Kui Yi followed the nurse’s gaze. The window was shrouded in darkness. ⅓ of the window was exposed. The rest was covered by the curtain. Thankfully, there were no faces hanging outside the window. Kui Yi was prepared to be spooked.

Kui Yi sighed in relief. He felt like he was overthinking. The ghost was in bed, so how could it appear behind the window? He was so nervous that he was scaring himself.

An unknown wind caressed him. The next second, Kui Yi’s pupils trembled. Then, he quickly looked away from the window. As the wind picked up the curtain, he saw a pair of grey legs outside the window.

Lin Wan ‘Er had to nudge him before he recovered. The two of them slowly moved towards the door. After they left the room and closed the door, Kui Yi was still shaking. Other than fear, there was confusion. When they moved further away from the room, Kui Yi leaned on the wall and gasped for air. The way he looked at Lin Wan ‘Er changed.

“How are there two ghosts?” Kui Yi lowered his voice. “Impossible. There was only one ghost that attacked me outside the hospital. If there were two, I wouldn’t have come back alive.” Kui Yi thought back to his encounter with the ghost outside the hospital. The wound around his stomach jolted with pain. Based on their hypothesis, Xiang Nan should be the only ghost. Or rather… Xiang Nan was the only ghost related to this incident. So… who was the other ghost?

What did he miss?

Lin Wan ‘Er glanced down the corridor. She didn’t notice anything out of place. She turned to Kui Yi. “It might not be a ghost,” she uttered.

“What do you mean?” Kui Yi frowned. “Did you not see the pair of legs behind the curtain?” Kui Yi argued, “I saw it clearly. The legs were closed, and they had a grey hue. They cannot belong to a living human!” Kui Yi had experience dealing with ghosts.

“I am not talking about the one at the window,” Lin Wan ‘Er countered.

Kui Yi slowly calmed down. “Do you mean… the one in the bed was a human?!” Kui Yi raised his head.

“Yes,” Lin Wan ‘Er concurred.

He rearranged the clues in his head. If that person were alive, they had to be a key character in this story… “It’s Zhao Ru!” Kui Yi gasped. At this hospital, only one person would cooperate with the ghost. After all, Zhao Ru was Xiang Nan’s daughter. She also pointed the blame directly at Director Qi from the start. Zhao Ru was arranged by the hospital to look after the mad nurse in Room 906. She could easily set up everything. She did everything to pull off the plan.

Kui Yi looked better after calming down. His mind cleared. “I have to admit that you have a point.” Kui Yi sighed, “But there’s one thing that puzzles me. Why would they detain this nurse? Why wouldn’t it be easier to kill her? Plus, she has already lost her mind.” With Xiang Nan’s viciousness, Kui Yi could easily see her killing the nurse. However, since they didn’t kill the nurse, their purpose had to be dissected.

“The nurse might have something that Xiang Nan wants, or something that she is desperate to destroy.” Kui Yi scratched his chin. “That thing might be something that the nurse accidentally stumbled upon.”

In any case, from the way Xiang Nan and Zhao Ru valued the nurse, the latter might have a crucial clue.

It might be why she managed to survive until then.

It was her protective talisman.
