“Both kids died because of dogs?” Lin Wan ‘Er gasped.

“Yes.” Kui Yi sighed. “That’s something that is troubling me.”

It was not uncommon for wild dogs to attack children, but to cause fatality… That was rare. Furthermore, Xiang Nan encountered that twice. It was difficult to believe there wasn’t a conspiracy. Even stranger, Xiang Nan’s two husbands both died by suicide. The difference was that Xiang Nan’s first husband killed himself, while her second husband, Yi Zhenliang, murdered Xiang Nan before killing himself. Both chose to jump from a building. Could all these be connected?

If one’s previous child died from a dog attack, the parents would be more cautious in the future. It might even lead to PTSD. So how could it happen a second time? This was unreasonable. Unless… Lin Wan ‘Er frowned. Everything was planned by Xiang Nan.

“You thought of the same thing, right?” Kui Yi regarded Lin Wan ‘Er with a complicated look. He guessed the same as Lin Wan ‘Er. Perhaps in this case, Xiang Nan’s character was more than a victim.

Lin Wan ‘Er raised her head and whispered, “Perhaps Yi Zhenliang was right. Xiang Nan was mentally unstable, and he used his connections to lock her up in this hospital. Both kids’ deaths are related to her.

“Yi Zhenliang was a good man. The talk about an affair was just a rumour. And his severe surveillance of his child, including hiring a nanny, was to prevent Xiang Nan from hurting their child.”

The old man around the villa told them that he once saw bruises on Xiang Nan and her child’s bodies. The culprit might not be Yi Zhenliang but Xiang Nan.

“Yi Zhenliang discovered Xiang Nan’s hidden side. He did his investigation and found out the truth about the death of Xiang Nan’s first child. Therefore, he sent her here for treatment. This meant that he cared about her or else he would have reported her to the police…”

“I was pondering that.” Kui Yi said, “However, there’s one thing that doesn’t make sense. Since Yi Zhenliang had already delivered Xiang Nan to the hospital to be monitored, why would he rush over to kill her?

“If he wanted to murder her, he didn’t need to waste time sending her to the hospital. It didn’t make sense.”

The hint was clear. If they were right, something must have triggered Yi Zhenliang to go berserk.

“Xiang Nan’s pregnancy,” Lin Wan ‘Er uttered.

That had to be it.

Kui Yi nodded. “From what we know, Xiang Nan appeared to be a beautiful and kind woman to most people. To send such a person into a hospital, her husband had to know something at the hospital.”

“Zhang Zhaowei was the perfect candidate,” Lin Wan ‘Er offered.

“That’s right. Plus, I found out that Zhang Zhaowei and Yi Zhenliang knew each other a long time ago.” Kui Yi added, “They were not close, but when Xiang Nan was hospitalised, the two became a lot closer.”

The way Lin Wan ‘Er looked at Kui Yi shifted. How did he manage to acquire such detailed information in such a short amount of time?

Lin Wan ‘Er spent her days wandering the grey edges of the world. She knew how difficult to get this information.

Sensing her suspicion, Kui Yi gave a helpless smile. “Miss Lin, I know you suspect the source of my information, but you have to believe me. Everything I say is true.” He slowly lifted up his shirt. Lin Wan ‘Er saw a bandage around his waist. It was soaked red. The first-aid method was rough. Clear tape was used to keep the bandages in place. It was very unprofessional. Kui Yi removed the tape and bandages to reveal three bloody gashes that cut through his stomach. The wounds were neat. They looked like scratch marks. But there was no beast there, only ghosts.

“When I was looking for clues, the ghost pretended to be with the police and attacked me,” Kui Yi explained, “Thankfully, I saw through them at the last minute.”

No wonder Lin Wan ‘Er felt Kui Yi’s face was pale when he returned. He was injured.

“So, you came here to verify the connection between Yi Zhenliang and Zhang Zhaowei?” Lin Wan ‘Er asked.

“Yes.” Kui Yi nodded. “There’s one thing that supports our analysis, Xiang Nan’s attitude towards all the hospital staff with whom she interacted. Most of the time, she was stable.” Kui Yi recalled that Blind Zheng had a good impression of Xiang Nan. “Think about it. Would a tortured woman act the way she did?”

Since they couldn’t find any evidence, Lin Wan ‘Er left with Kui Yi. Jiang Cheng’s group was still in the basement.

When they walked down the corridor, they heard many strange noises. It wasn’t loud, but it was clear in the quiet corridor. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

“What is that sound?” Kui Yi was nervous as he looked around. It was a soft sound of friction. It made a chill run up his spine.

However, the sound soon disappeared.

Lin Wan ‘Er paused. She glanced at the room beside her. Kui Yi walked over. He saw the number 906 on the door. This was Room 906, the one mentioned by Jiang Cheng. According to legend, this was the room where a mad nurse was locked away for ten years.

Kui Yi stared at the door and whispered, “Did the sound come from this room?”

Then, Lin Wan ‘Er shook her head. “I don’t know, but…” She stared at the door and whispered back, “But, someone opened this door not too long ago.”
