Chapter 1018: Chapter 711: Hospital Night of Terror_2
"I just want to survive. Remember, once the experiment is successful, you must guard Dou Jie’s body and mine. Tie me up as well, and stay vigilant nearby. Don’t approach, don’t interfere with me," Yang Xiao instructed.
"Don’t worry," Qu Hong said, full of confidence in the man before her.
Time ticked by. According to Yang Xiao’s instructions, Dou Jie was moved to an open space about 50 meters away from the car. Qu Hong, worried Dou Jie might get cold, thoughtfully laid a thick quilt under him and draped a coat over him.
Meanwhile, Qu Hong and Yang Xiao sat side by side, warming themselves by an alcohol stove, the orange flames casting a bright glow on their faces.
Time ticked by. Yang Xiao explained the precautions to Qu Hong, who listened attentively. Suddenly, the previously quiet Dou Jie abruptly opened his eyes and started trembling for no reason, "It’s coming! I can feel it!"
"The bell! I hear the bell!" Dou Jie’s eyes widened, blood vessels prominent, "It’s coming for me..."
Seeing this, Yang Xiao and Qu Hong immediately began their planned actions. Yang Xiao extinguished the alcohol stove and lay down on another quilt a few meters from Dou Jie. Qu Hong first ran to Dou Jie, stuffing the prepared pager into his hand, then came to Yang Xiao’s side, tying his hands and feet with ropes, quickly taking out a wooden box from her backpack, and asked in a low voice, "Ready?"
"Go ahead," Yang Xiao closed his eyes and nodded slightly.
Qu Hong did not hesitate any longer. She opened the wooden box and swiftly covered Yang Xiao’s face with the Geisha Face, ensuring it was secure before taking the box and retreating to a safe distance.
Clenching her fists, Qu Hong’s breathing became rapid. An inexplicable change was happening in the area where Yang Xiao and Dou Jie were. A formless, intangible black fog appeared out of nowhere, shrouding the two figures.
A moment later, a chilling scream echoed from within the black fog.
It was a woman’s voice.
...
"Hoo—"
"Hoo—"
In the darkness, Yang Xiao slowly opened his eyes. The surroundings were significantly different from before. He was lying in a bed, not just on a quilt on the ground. A blanket was covering him.
Yet he didn’t feel well. His limbs were numb, his hands and feet inexplicably cold, and there was a chilling void under his crotch, as if something was missing.
Thankfully, he was clutching the pager in his right hand.
It was pitch dark around him, with almost no light. Yang Xiao dared not act recklessly. He waited for his body to recover while slowly pulling the blanket up and wrapping himself completely.
He had confirmed two things. First, their plan had succeeded, and he had indeed been brought into the hospital world.
Second, the body he was using was no longer his own but Dou Jie’s.
Listening attentively for a moment and confirming there was no abnormality nearby, Yang Xiao pressed the red button on the pager. Immediately, there was a sound of static electricity, "Mr. Zhou, this is Chu Xi. I’ve entered. Please respond if you hear this."
A few seconds later, Captain Zhou’s voice came from the pager, "Received, clearly. This is Zhou Chengyi. Please confirm your name and identity again."
"Yang," Yang Xiao uttered one word.
"Xiao," the other side quickly responded, "this is Captain Zhou. I am communicating with you from the rest room at the nurse station on the third floor."
With the code confirmed, both of them relaxed. Based on Yang Xiao’s description, Captain Zhou judged that Yang Xiao should be in an empty ward and advised him to find the door and come out.
Uncovering the blanket from his head, Yang Xiao took a breath and slowly got up, listening for any sounds around him while getting used to the body. As he left the bed and stood up, his body paused briefly, and cold sweat appeared on his forehead as he heard a laugh behind him.
It was the kind of suppressed laughter that still escaped, quiet but exceptionally clear in this environment.
By now, Yang Xiao’s vision was adjusting to the darkness. Without looking back, he found the door, which had a small, faintly glowing glass window. Without worrying about exposure, he quickly rushed to the door, yanked it open, and looked back as he exited.
With the dim light from the corridor streaming in, Yang Xiao saw another bed next to the one he had just risen from, with a ghastly, withered old woman lying on it.
Several restraint straps from under the blanket held the old woman tightly, as she lay there, her head turned, staring at him with a peculiar expression—an odd smile on her lips, her face eerily motionless.
She wore a wrinkled blue and white striped garment, clearly a patient here. No wonder he hadn’t heard breathing when he woke up, the old woman had been holding her breath, likely aware of the unexpected guest long before.
"Hehe... Hehehehe..."
Seeing Yang Xiao notice her, the old woman stopped pretending and let go of her breath, squeezing her eyes and laughing sinisterly. The laughter was bone-chilling, and Yang Xiao quickly shut the door to the ward.
As he had observed while opening the door, the corridor was empty, not even a ghostly shadow in sight. The ward number was 329, with each floor forming an L-shape corridor that split into an east and a north corridor, with the nurse station located at the junction.
Judging from the ward number, he was in the east corridor, closer to the stairwell at the end of the hall.
"Captain Zhou, I’m in the east corridor, ward 329," Yang Xiao whispered, moving toward the end of the corridor, "Where are you?"
"Zz... Zz zz..."
"I’m coming out. You should be able to see me."
Within ten seconds of receiving the response, Yang Xiao saw a figure appear at the other end of the corridor. The figure wore a white coat, but the face was eerily indistinct, completely blurry.
Judging by the build, it was a strong man, resembling Captain Zhou’s physique that Yang Xiao remembered.
The figure glanced towards Yang Xiao, then picked up a pager mounted on the corridor wall. In the next moment, Captain Zhou’s voice came through Yang Xiao’s pager, "I’m here, but I can’t see you."
"I can see you, but your face is blurred. I’m heading to the basement. Have your men obtained the key?" This was the most pressing issue for Yang Xiao.
"No news yet. We don’t have cellphones and can only use the landline. Once they get the key, they’ll drop it at the main entrance. You should go collect it."
Yang Xiao understood the procedure. Non-night shift personnel were not allowed into the hospital building, and tonight Captain Zhou and Xu Yiqiu were stationed on the third and second floors respectively. They couldn’t help with the first-floor key.
"Ding-a-ling—"
Before Yang Xiao could respond, a ghastly bell sound echoed both from the pager and the surroundings. The ghost had appeared!!
Yang Xiao couldn’t pinpoint the direction, the sound seemed to come from everywhere, only guessing it was not far.
"I’ll head downstairs. Have someone meet me!" Yang Xiao said before running towards the stairwell at the corridor’s end, the opposite direction to Captain Zhou, for faster escape.
"Ding-a-ling—"
"Ding-a-ling—"
The bell sound was getting closer, seemingly chasing him. If not for his unfamiliarity with the body, Yang Xiao could have run faster.
"Come back! The ghost is at the corridor’s end!!" The next second, Captain Zhou’s voice erupted from the pager.
