Chapter 1017: Chapter 711: Hospital Night of Terror
Xi Huijun sat in the car, dumbfounded, already scared out of her wits. The cut by Qu Hong was swift and harsh; Dou Jie’s seat was covered in blood, and the smell of blood in the car repeatedly assaulted Xi Huijun’s nerves. Half an ear had fallen at her feet.
Xi Huijun couldn’t hold it in any longer, covering her mouth, she staggered out of the car and vomited loudly.
Opening the car door, Yang Xiao stepped out with a heavy backpack. Dou Jie stared at Yang Xiao as he approached, especially at the black backpack, filled with regret. He already understood what was about to happen.
These... these guys were going to use his body to take risks. This wasn’t supposed to be his mission, but that beast Qu Hong intended to transfer the curse to him!
"Has the Ghost Bell been transferred?" Yang Xiao looked at Qu Hong and asked, his tone calm without a hint of fluctuation. He had already expected this outcome.
"Very smoothly, it hasn’t returned to me. It seems our previous speculation was correct, the curse can be artificially transferred, that is the essence of a surrogate." Qu Hong, pleased with the successful experiment, subconsciously whistled.
"Not us, your speculation," Yang Xiao corrected.
Qu Hong shrugged indifferently, "Alright, whatever you say, Mr. Chu. But... I’ll need to borrow your human skin mask later."
At that moment, Dou Jie, tied up like a mummy, was utterly desperate. From their conversation, he realized his fate. These two had collaborated, and whether it was Yang Xiao or Qu Hong who was chosen, neither of them would risk their bodies; they both wanted a surrogate.
"Mmm... mmm..."
Dou Jie, lying on the ground, began a new round of struggles, making incoherent sounds through his blocked mouth.
"Stay still!"
Qu Hong stepped forward, raising his foot to give a warning, but Yang Xiao stopped him, "Don’t hurt him."
Qu Hong, having been stopped, showed no dissatisfaction, instead nodded and smiled, "Mr. Chu, you’re still far-sighted. Right, we still need this body later."
"Mmm..."
"Mmm... mmm..."
Dou Jie shed tears, looking at Yang Xiao, then turned his head with effort to look at the direction of the car.
Yang Xiao knew he had something to say. Squatting down, he pulled out the rag from Dou Jie’s mouth. After several deep breaths, Dou Jie hurriedly pleaded, "Mr. Chu... Ms. Qu Hong, don’t you just need a surrogate? Spare me, use Xi Huijun, I’m more useful than her! I’ll bring her to you!"
"Xi Huijun, get over here!!" Without waiting for Yang Xiao to respond, Dou Jie yelled at the top of his lungs, "Get over here now!!"
Hearing these words, Xi Huijun froze. She was crouching by the car, having just emptied her stomach. Her head was dizzy, and now, scared out of her wits, her legs were trembling, barely able to stand. She wanted to run, but looking at the endless darkness around, she had no idea where to go.
"She’s not as suitable as you. Her physical condition isn’t as good as yours," Yang Xiao said, "And to us, neither of you are useful."
Dou Jie opened his mouth to explain, but he couldn’t think of any way he was valuable to Yang Xiao or Qu Hong. Since arriving in this world, he hadn’t accomplished anything significant, except for arguing with Yang Xiao.
The only time he went to gather information with Xiao Yaqin, he even managed to lose track of his teammates, and it was Yu Kai who ultimately went back to clean up the mess.
"Mr. Chu, I was wrong. Please ask Ms. Qu Hong to spare me this time. In the future... in the future, I’ll listen to everything you say!" Dou Jie cried.
"Then listen to me and stop struggling. Leave yourself some dignity. You are the most suitable candidate now, and no one can change that. The more you struggle now, the more your strength will be depleted, increasing our chances of failure. The quicker and more miserably you’ll die. Do you understand?" Yang Xiao spoke without personal emotion, simply stating the facts, weighing pros and cons for the best outcome for the team.
Raising his head, Yang Xiao looked at Xi Huijun, who had most of her body hidden behind the car, with just her head poking out, "Come out. If we wanted to catch you, we would have done it already. Do you really think you can escape?"
Xi Huijun didn’t move, as if she was thinking, but seeing Qu Hong raise his hand, first pointing at her, then at the open car door, she swallowed hard and the next second, obediently got back on the car and sat down.
"Close the door," Qu Hong ordered softly.
"Bang!"
Xi Huijun forcefully closed the door, locking herself and Boss Sun inside, no longer daring to move.
With Yang Xiao’s "persuasion," Dou Jie closed his eyes, ceasing his struggles, resigning to his fate. Yet, what Yang Xiao did next surprised even Qu Hong; this time, Yang Xiao had decided to take the risk himself.
"You’re going?" Qu Hong couldn’t help but confirm. After all, she had received the Ghost Bell; she was the primary person involved. Even if Dou Jie was to be the surrogate, it should have been her spirit transferring into his body and being taken back by the female ghost into the asylum world of ten years ago.
This kind of experiment inherently carried great risk, and now, Yang Xiao was willing to endure it for her.
"I completed both communications, and there are acquaintances to assist. Between you and me, I’m more suitable," Yang Xiao said bluntly.
Qu Hong’s eyes widened in surprise as she looked at Yang Xiao, as if seeing him in a new light. After a moment, she nodded, "You’ve got guts. Now I believe you’re from the Patrol Defense Office. You have responsibility, you’re ruthless and decisive. Mr. Chu, you are an exceptional person!"
