Chapter 1008: Chapter 706: Yang’s Thighs
In the next second, there was a crisp sound of friction. Yang Xiao knew clearly that it was the rain cover for the corpse being pulled away by something.
"Who’s there, who’s grabbing a weapon?!" The Mountain Guardian was startled by the sound, his emotions becoming increasingly tense. After all, the weapons had been thrown into the pile of corpses. "Stop! Stop right now, or I’ll shoot!"
"Bang!!"
There was no second warning; the gun fired. A flash of light briefly illuminated the Mountain Guardian’s position, and a large amount of shrapnel mixed with iron shot out. The cave was immediately filled with the sounds of screams.
Someone was hit. Then came the sounds of screaming and running, with various noises echoing in the dark cave, causing complete chaos.
Yang Xiao squatted down with his back against the rock wall, keeping his mouth tightly shut to stay quiet. In the midst of the clamor, he again caught the sound of the Mountain Guardian’s voice, still at the exit. However, this time, it was clear that the guardian was in trouble.
"Who’s touching me?!" The Mountain Guardian was both startled and angry. "Damn it, get out here!"
Then, as if he’d seen something extremely horrifying, the Mountain Guardian let out a short scream, but in the next second, the scream abruptly stopped.
This scream undoubtedly made the situation inside the cave even more chaotic. For a moment, Yang Xiao heard Boss Sun’s shouts and the cries of women, possibly Xi Huijun, or perhaps something else; Yang Xiao couldn’t tell.
But he could sense that these sounds were coming from both near and far, with some distant noises completely exceeding the range of the cave, as if they had entered another space.
If this continued, people would be scattered. They were already short-handed. If they suffered significant casualties, they wouldn’t even have enough people to experiment with trying different approaches. With this in mind, Yang Xiao had to take the risk and stand up: "Don’t panic! Don’t run! Gather around me!"
Yang Xiao shouted a few times, and the situation only slightly stabilized. Shortly thereafter, rustling sounds came from all directions.
"It’s me." The owner of the first arriving footsteps said in a low voice. Yang Xiao recognized it was Qu Hong.
The cave was pitch black, even if they were close at hand, Yang Xiao couldn’t identify these people by sight, only by sound.
"Now... what do we do now?" Dou Jie’s voice seemed to squeeze through his teeth, filled with pain.
"You’re hurt?" Someone asked cautiously.
"Yes."
"Can someone explain... what’s happening here?" Boss Sun’s voice rang out, with a sob, as if he was about to cry.
Xi Huijun was also suppressing herself, lightly sobbing, "Let’s get out of here quickly, I... I’m really scared."
"Yu, are you there?" Yang Xiao suddenly asked.
It was then that everyone realized Yu Kai hadn’t spoken. Just when everyone was worried, Yu Kai’s voice sounded, "I’m here. I’m orienting myself."
Indeed, it was pitch dark around. They couldn’t see their hands in front of them. Everyone had run amok, and now they couldn’t tell where the cave entrance was.
"The environment here has been eroded by the supernatural. The space is much larger than before. I ran dozens of steps trying to avoid the shotgun, but I didn’t hit a wall." Yu Kai also realized the strangeness here. They were trapped in an infinitely large space, and a ghost was lurking around.
Yang Xiao had originally been leaning against a wall, and had only taken a few steps forward to guide the others. He now retreated in the same manner but found that after 7 or 8 steps, he hadn’t touched the wall. The edge of the cave had disappeared.
"What now?" Boss Sun also calmed down from his initial panic. After all, his experience and knowledge were not inferior to Dou Jie and Xi Huijun in critical moments.
After a moment of thought, Yang Xiao spoke first, "Everyone gather, put a hand on the person’s shoulder next to you, connect to form a circle."
"Touch the body, not the face," Yang Xiao reminded.
Yang Xiao’s suggestion quickly gained the support of Qu Hong and Yu Kai. Judging by the bodies on the ground and the Mountain Guardian’s last moments, the ghost probably first touched someone’s shoulder before killing them. By standing shoulder to shoulder in a circle, they wouldn’t give the ghost an opportunity.
Of course, this wasn’t foolproof. It was just a bold attempt to survive against the ghost’s threat.
Soon, with some rustling, everyone in the darkness used their hands to quickly form a circle, "Good, now start counting." Once the formation was stable, Yang Xiao gave the order.
"1," Yang Xiao was the first to speak.
"2."
The person behind Yang Xiao followed. But as soon as the voice came out, Yang Xiao’s heart sank. He couldn’t recognize who it was —the voice sounded familiar, likely from their group.
"3."
"4."
"5."
"6."
"7."
When the last number sounded, the scene fell deathly silent. Yang Xiao could clearly feel the person in front of him, whom he was holding on to, trembling continuously. The Mountain Guardian was dead, and with Boss Sun, there were only 6 of them left.
Without a doubt, the extra seventh person was the ghost. It had blended in when they were touching shoulders.
The hands clutching Yang Xiao’s shoulders loosened slightly, and Yang Xiao immediately shouted, "Don’t let go! Stay together, running will mean death!"
"He’s right! If we scatter, we’ll never make it back and will be picked off one by one. The bodies on the ground are proof!" Someone chimed in.
Only when the hands on Yang Xiao’s shoulders tightened again did he slowly breathe a sigh of relief. He was worried that without someone guarding his shoulders, he would be the next victim.
Steadying himself, Yang Xiao’s tone softened considerably. Now everyone was extremely tense, and any sudden movement could cause their fragile alliance to crumble. Newcomers could get the veterans killed; this was no joke.
