Chapter 210: Unity In Death

The Yuimons moved with purpose, each one selecting a target, each one closing in on its prey.

It was one on one, fifteen Yuimons against fifteen Horned Olfs, a perfect symmetry that Darion had orchestrated from above.

The Horned Olfs, still frozen in shock, barely had time to react before the massive undead creatures were upon them.

They probably wanted to run, to flee from whatever these Yuimons were. But Darion didn’t give them the chance. He had every one of the Horned olfs taken.

One for one.

The fight was brutal, but it was also precise. The Yuimons, despite their size and power, followed Darion’s command to the letter.

They didn’t bite off heads. They didn’t crush bones. They didn’t destroy the bodies that Darion needed intact.

Instead, they fought softly, as softly as creatures of their size could fight. They pinned the Horned Olfs to the ground, using their massive weight to hold them in place.

They bit down on the creatures’ necks, not hard enough to sever, just enough to suffocate. They used their claws to immobilize, not to tear.

It wasn’t even a close fight. The Horned Olfs were tough, yes, but they were no match for the undead Yuimons.

They thrashed and clawed and tried to fight back, but the Yuimons held firm. One by one, the Horned Olfs went still, their bodies going limp, their lives fading away. The Yuimons released their grip and stepped back, their green eyes glowing, their bodies still and waiting.

Wiped out!

All of them. Fifteen Horned Olfs, dead in under a minute.

Darion gave the command, and his original undead wolf leaped from the tree.

The descent was fast, the wind rushing past them as the wolf hit the ground with a soft thud. Seren held onto Darion tighter than ever, her arms wrapped around his waist, her face pressed against his back. She was scared , he could feel her trembling, her breath coming in short, sharp gasps.

They reached the ground, and she unmounted quickly, her feet hitting the earth like she was trying to escape the wolf. She turned to face him, her face flushed, her eyes wide. Then she looked at him in a cute, angry manner, her lips pressed together in a frown.

"I’m never doing that again!" she said, her voice sharp but not truly angry.

Darion laughed, a low chuckle that escaped before he could stop it. "Hopefully," he said. "That was really boring too, staying there since..."

Seren shrugged, her expression softening. "Obviously. I almost fell asleep."

Darion laughed again.

He couldn’t help it. There was something about the moment that felt light, despite everything they had just been through. The tension had broken, and the relief was palpable.

And truly, staying up there had truly been boring. And seemingly long.

Now, it was time for the work.

Darion walked over to the fallen Horned Olfs, their bodies still and lifeless on the forest floor.

The Yuimons had done their job well, killing the creatures without destroying them. The bones were intact. The bodies were whole. Darion crouched down beside the first one, placing his hand on its chest. He focused his energy, felt the familiar pull, and spoke the word.

"Arise."

Green light spread from his palm, washing over the body. It twitched once, twice, and then its eyes opened, glowing green. The Horned Olf rose slowly, its movements stiff at first, then smoother as the binding settled. It stood before him, ready to serve.

He moved to the next one.

"Arise."

And the next.

"Arise."

And the next.

"Arise."

One by one, the Horned Olfs rose from the dead. Fifteen of them, their green eyes glowing, their bodies still and waiting. Then Darion walked over to the errligs, the deer-like creatures that had served as bait. He placed his hand on each one.

"Arise."

"Arise."

"Arise."

"Arise."

Four errligs joined the ranks, their green eyes glowing, their bodies ready. Darion looked at them all, a small smile playing on his lips. The Horned Olfs were tough, aggressive, and loyal. The errligs were weaker, but they had their uses. He wondered how strong they would be for him, how much they would add to his growing army.

He added them all to his inventory.

His status screen appeared before him:

Darion stared at the screen, his eyes scanning the numbers. Endurance had jumped by seven. That was significant. He thought about why, and the answer came to him quickly.

He had been patient. He had waited. He had sat in that tree for what felt like hours, staying still, staying quiet, trusting the process. That kind of patience was not easy. It was exhausting. It tested every part of him. And the system had recognized that. It had rewarded him for it.

The other increases were small, barely noticeable. But the endurance boost was meaningful. It was a reminder that the system was paying attention to everything, not just the battles, but the waiting, the planning and the discipline.

After he was done checking his stats, Darion and Seren decided to drink water. They had been moving for hours, fighting, waiting, climbing, and their bodies were starting to feel the weight of it all.

Darion reached for the cloth pouch Seren had brought, pulling out the water skin. He took a long drink, the cool water soothing his dry throat. This kind of water, one that came after a very tired day, felt like one was tasting the sweetest thing in the world!

Then he handed it to Seren.

She took it, her fingers brushing against his. She drank, then lowered the skin, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand.

"We should keep moving," Darion said. "There’s still daylight left."
