Chapter 54: The Tycoon Returns [1]

Izumo and Kotetsu were bored.

It was a standard, agonizingly slow Tuesday afternoon at the main gates of Konoha. The Third Shinobi War had been over for years, and peacetime gate duty usually consisted of stamping merchant manifests, waving through returning Genin squads, and trying not to fall asleep standing up.

Then, the ground began to vibrate.

It wasn’t the light, rapid tremor of an approaching shinobi platoon. It was a heavy, rhythmic, thunderous rumbling.

Izumo bolted upright, dropping his clipboard. Kotetsu’s hand instantly dropped to the hilt of his kunai. They shared a look of sudden, sharp panic.

"Is that a localized earthquake?" Kotetsu hissed, his eyes locked on the tree line beyond the gates.

"No," Izumo said, squinting as a massive cloud of dust kicked up on the main road. "It’s a convoy. A massive one."

The two Chunin braced themselves, ready to hit the village alarm.

The treeline parted, and the convoy finally rolled into the sunlight. Izumo and Kotetsu froze, their jaws practically unhinging.

It wasn’t an invading army. It was a rolling monument to unadulterated, obscene wealth.

Leading the procession were fifty men marching in perfect, rigid unison. They didn’t wear flak jackets or forehead protectors. They wore immaculate, tailored charcoal-black haoris with a subtle fan crest embroidered on the chest. They looked less like caravan guards and more like a highly funded private military.

Behind them rolled the carriages. They weren’t standard wooden merchant carts. They were massive, heavily reinforced cabins plated in gleaming gold leaf and trimmed with polished mahogany.

Riding on the front of the lead carriage were two absolute monsters.

On the right sat a woman with orange-tipped hair, wearing a sleek sand-gold guard kimono and lacquered bracers. Her eyes were sharp, calculating the blind spots of the Konoha gates with the cold efficiency of a legendary killer.

On the left sat a literal giant. He wore a perfectly tailored black three-piece suit, his high silk cravat hiding the lower half of his face, leaving only glowing, terrifying green eyes visible. He held a massive leather ledger, looking intensely annoyed by the dust.

"Halt!" Kotetsu yelled, his voice cracking slightly as the golden carriage pulled to a stop just inches from the checkpoint. He desperately tried to maintain his authority. "State your business and present your identification!"

The door of the lead carriage clicked open.

A polished, leather-soled boot stepped out. Ren Uchiha stepped down onto the dirt, adjusting the cuffs of his crimson shirt and sweeping his midnight-blue overcoat back. He was eighteen, tall, and radiating the kind of effortless, crushing arrogance that usually belonged to a Daimyo.

He didn’t look like a shinobi. He looked like he owned the road he was standing on.

Ren reached into his vest, pulled out a standard, slightly wrinkled Konoha civilian registry token, and handed it to Izumo.

Izumo looked at the token, then looked up at the towering, eighteen-year-old tycoon standing in front of him.

"Ren Uchiha?" Izumo read the name aloud, his brain completely misfiring. "Fugaku’s kid? The one who opened that little tea stand?"

"I expanded operations," Ren replied smoothly, checking his gold pocket watch. "I’m here on a family visit, and to drop off a hundred crates of medical supplies to Lady Tsunade. Please stamp the manifest. We are on a tight schedule."

Kakuzu leaned down from the driver’s seat, his green eyes locking onto Izumo. "If there is a local import tariff on luxury cosmetics, I demand to see the official tax code. I will not be extorted by gate guards."

"N-no tariff," Kotetsu stammered, frantically stamping the papers and shoving them back into Ren’s hand. He recognized the giant from the bingo books, but the suit completely broke his brain. "You’re cleared. Welcome back to the Leaf."

Ren nodded politely, stepped back into his golden carriage, and the massive convoy began to roll through the gates.

The reaction inside the village was instantaneous and entirely hilarious.

Konoha was a militaristic, practical village. Shinobi were used to seeing mud, blood, and standard-issue green flak jackets. When the golden convoy rolled down the main commercial thoroughfare, the entire civilian and military population practically broke their necks turning to stare.

Shopkeepers dropped their brooms. Academy students ran alongside the road, pointing at the gold leaf. A squad of returning Jonin had to step off the street, staring in absolute bewilderment as fifty men in tailored haoris marched past them with perfect discipline.

Ren sat by the window, watching the absolute chaos his arrival was causing. It was the ultimate, weaponized flex.

Up ahead, near the entrance to the Uchiha compound, the crowd had gathered thickly.

Fugaku Uchiha was conducting a routine midday patrol with three of his top Military Police lieutenants. When he heard the massive commotion, he pushed his way through the crowd, fully expecting to find a visiting noble causing a public disturbance.

Fugaku stepped into the middle of the road, holding up a hand to halt the convoy.

The fifty route inspectors stopped instantly. Perfect, synchronized silence.

Fugaku looked at the golden carriage. He saw the Uchiha Apothecary crest painted on the side. He knew his son had been in the Capital, and Mikoto had mentioned he was doing "well" for himself. Fugaku had assumed "well" meant Ren was managing a moderately successful civilian storefront. He had fully expected his eldest son to eventually return home humbled, quietly fading into the background of the clan.

The carriage door opened.

Ren stepped out. He looked his father dead in the eye, entirely unbothered by the severe, imposing glare of the Uchiha patriarch.

"Hello, Dad," Ren said calmly. "I hear Mom is due soon."

Fugaku stared at him. He looked at the tailored clothes. He looked at the fifty disciplined guards. He looked up at Kakuzu, an S-rank monster wearing a three-piece suit and holding an accounting ledger. He looked at Pakura of the Scorch Release, acting as a personal bodyguard.

The patriarch of the Uchiha clan was utterly, completely speechless. His mind could not process the sheer, impossible volume of wealth and power his "disgraceful" son had just dragged into the village.

"Ren," Fugaku finally managed to choke out, his strict, authoritative voice entirely failing him. "What... what is this?"

Ren smiled. It was a cold, perfectly manicured, profoundly smug CEO grin.

"This?" Ren gestured casually to the fifty guards, the legendary mercenaries, and the mountain of gold-plated logistics behind him. "Just a little vanity project, Dad. I figured I shouldn’t show up empty-handed for the baby shower."
