Chapter 27: The Expiration Date
The morning of the seventh day broke gray and bitterly cold over the Hidden Leaf Village.
Inside the back office of the Uchiha cafe, Ren sat at his desk. He hadn’t slept. His body was entirely numb, pushed far past its biological limits even with the system’s physical enhancements. But his mind was laser-focused, razor-sharp, and completely awake.
He stared at the glowing blue interface hovering in the dark room.
[CURRENT BALANCE: 50,100 BC]
Six months of aggressive retail expansion. A terrifying, high-stakes supply run with an immortal missing-nin. Ninety-six hours of manic, sleep-deprived extortion. It had all led to this exact number.
"System," Ren said, his voice a hoarse whisper. "Open the Tier 4 catalog. Biological Restoration."
The screen shifted. The golden icon appeared.
"Purchase Senzu Bean Fragment."

In an instant, his massive, hard-fought corporate fortune was completely vaporized. He was practically dead broke again.
But Ren didn’t care.
A flash of brilliant, warm golden light illuminated the office, banishing the morning shadows. When the light faded, a small, intricately carved wooden box rested perfectly in the center of his ledger.
Ren reached out with a trembling hand and opened the lid.
Resting on a bed of black velvet was a tiny, unassuming green bean fragment, no larger than a fingernail. Yet the sheer density of the life force radiating from it was staggering. It felt like holding a miniature sun. The ambient temperature in the office actually rose by a few degrees just from the box being open.
Perfect, Ren thought, snapping the box shut and slipping it into the deepest, most secure pocket of his coat. Tsunade won’t just owe me his life. She’ll need to stay in the village to oversee his recovery.
He stood up, his joints popping, and walked out the back door into the freezing morning air.
He needed to check the perimeter of his target.
As Ren walked through the streets of Konoha toward the hospital, he immediately noticed the atmosphere. The usual bustling, loud, war-driven anxiety of the village was completely gone.
It was replaced by a heavy, suffocating silence.
No one was shouting at the market stalls. The Uchiha police patrols were walking at a slow, respectful pace.
When Ren reached the street across from Konoha Hospital, he stopped, his breath fogging in the cold air.
Hundreds of villagers were gathered silently outside the heavy iron gates of the hospital. They weren’t protesting. They were mourning. One by one, they walked up to the gates and placed white chrysanthemums and lilies against the cold iron.
The pile of flowers was already waist-high.
They know, Ren realized, watching a young academy student place a single white flower on the pile. The village knows what happens at midnight.
To the average citizen, Nawaki Senju wasn’t just a classified S-rank patient. He was the First Hokage’s grandson. He was the living symbol of the village’s founding legacy, and today, that legacy was officially being put into the ground.
Suddenly, the crowd parted in absolute silence.
A massive, ornate palanquin carried by four elite Senju guards moved slowly down the street. It stopped at the hospital entrance. The heavy curtains were drawn back, and Mito Uzumaki stepped out.
The elderly kunoichi looked frail, leaning heavily on a wooden cane, but her presence commanded the entire street. She radiated a quiet, tragic strength. She was here to do the unthinkable—to manually deactivate the seal that was keeping her grandson’s shattered body suspended in time.
She walked past the white flowers, her face an unreadable mask of stoic duty, and entered the hospital.
Ren shifted his gaze to the stone steps of the eastern wing.
Sitting there, completely exposed to the freezing morning air, was Tsunade.
The legendary Sannin was completely unrecognizable. The furious, violently spiraling woman who had shattered the hospital wall days ago was gone. The fight had completely left her. She was sitting with her knees pulled to her chest, her blonde hair falling in a dirty, tangled mess over her face. She looked hollowed out.
Young Shizune was sitting beside her, wrapping a blanket over Tsunade’s trembling shoulders and crying softly. Tsunade didn’t move. She didn’t acknowledge the blanket, the cold, or the crowd. She just stared blankly at the ground, a woman waiting for her execution.
Ren stood in the alleyway, his hand resting over his coat pocket, feeling the faint, unnatural warmth of the wooden box against his chest.
Up until this exact moment, Ren had viewed this entire operation through the cold, detached lens of a businessman. He had calculated the return on investment. He had weighed the political capital of owning a Sannin’s debt. He had looked at Nawaki Senju as the ultimate corporate acquisition.
But looking at the mountain of white flowers, and seeing the absolute, soul-crushing despair of an older sister about to lose her little brother forever... the math vanished.
The raw, devastating human reality of the shinobi world hit him like a physical blow.
He wasn’t just buying a clan. He was holding the heartbeat of a grieving village in his pocket.
Ren turned his back on the hospital and walked briskly back toward the Uchiha compound. The pace was slow, measured, and resolute.
He had twelve hours until midnight.
At 10:00 PM, the cafe was dark.
Ren stood in the back kitchen. He had bathed, washed his face, and slapped his cheeks until the color returned to his exhausted skin.
He didn’t wear his gray smuggling cloak, and he didn’t pack kunai.
He put on his standard uniform. Black trousers, a crisp white collared shirt, and a flawlessly clean white apron. He tied the strings behind his back with practiced, mechanical precision.
He walked over to the prep counter and loaded forty standard Shinobi Lunch Boxes onto a heavy, wheeled delivery cart. He stacked them perfectly, ensuring the Uchiha Tycoon logo was visible on every single box.
Finally, he reached into his pocket, ensuring the small wooden box was secure.
"Are you taking a delivery run at this hour, Brother?"
Ren looked up. Itachi was standing in the doorway of the office, holding his notepad. The seven-year-old prodigy’s dark eyes were highly analytical, sensing the intense, quiet gravity radiating from his older brother.
"I am," Ren said smoothly, gripping the handles of the heavy cart. "The night-shift ANBU guards at the hospital restricted ward get hungry around this time. Consistency is the key to good customer service."
Itachi looked at the cart, then looked at Ren’s face. "The hospital is under extreme lockdown tonight due to the Senju situation. Infiltrating an S-rank facility with a food cart is highly improbable."
"It’s not an infiltration if they open the door and invite you inside, Itachi," Ren smirked, a flicker of his old, Tycoon arrogance returning to his eyes.
Ren pushed the heavy cart forward, the wheels rolling smoothly across the hardwood floor.
He pushed the cart out the back door and into the dark, silent streets of Konoha. He had beaten the supply chain, he had bled the nobles, and he had bought the miracle.
Now, he just had to deliver it.
