Chapter 372: Demons At The Border (II)

The response from the soldiers at the border was immediate.

Every one of them abandoned their idle positions without hesitation, rushing toward their assigned stations.

Orders echoed across the battlements as squads armed with rifles and magical items spread into formation with remarkable speed.

Captain Luther stood at the forefront of the wall, his eyes fixed on the approaching demons.

With a single sweep of his arm, he directed the formations.

"First and Third Companies, hold the west line."

"Casters, prepare your spells."

"Do not engage until my command."

The entire defensive force fell into place almost immediately.

Some of them, the Rangers, took firing positions behind the heavy defensive emplacements.

Others, mostly Casters, gathered behind them, already weaving magic circles into existence.

Some of the Guardians had begun raising their shields, while the Warriors and Sabers took up different fighting stances in preparation for the approaching enemy.

Jillia had just arrived before the immense magical barrier protecting the border.

She slowly drew the sword hanging at her waist and drove the blade straight into the shimmering barrier.

Its surface gave off a dull vibration, and the enormous magical wall immediately began wavering and flickering erratically.

Captain Luther gritted his teeth. "There’s no way... this barrier shouldn’t be breaking."

It was a Tier Seven barrier spell placed there by the General himself.

Prince Rayleigh had just climbed onto the battlements and stepped up beside him, an alarmed look on his face.

He immediately raised a hand over his nose the moment he came within visible range of the demon.

His entire face tightened in discomfort as the overwhelming stench accompanying the presence of the high-ranking demon assaulted his heightened senses.

Even so, Rayleigh forced himself to endure it.

His widened eyes remained fixed on the purple-haired demoness hovering in the air beyond the wavering barrier.

Then his gaze fell upon the family crest embroidered on her attire and recognized it immediately. It belonged to only one house—the very same house that had ordered the extermination of Ishtar’s family.

"This can’t be happening..." he whispered.

House Krygon, the ruling house of Krygon Province.

With one final pulse, the barrier simply dispersed.

Jillia’s sword was known as Dhurandar, and one of its greatest abilities was its power to absorb magical spells directly into the blade, provided they did not exceed a certain threshold.

And that barrier spell, had just become one of them.

The instant it vanished, Captain Luther’s voice thundered across the fortress. "Fire!"

The fortress erupted into action as everyone moved at once. Rifle muzzles flashed one after another, Casters unleashed torrents of spells that illuminated the coastline, while Sabers capable of ranged attacks sent compressed mana slashes hurtling through the air toward the demoness.

The Casters and Rangers were responsible for the army’s long-range assault.

In an instant, hundreds of attacks converged upon the lone demon woman. However, Jillia remained completely unbothered.

She began moving, twirling Dhurandar through the air in a blur. Within a second, the sword was moving so rapidly that its countless slashes merged into what resembled a spherical shell surrounding her body.

Bullets vanished the instant they entered its reach, while mana projectiles disappeared just as easily.

The relentless barrage continued for several more seconds before Captain Luther finally raised a fist.

The attacks gradually ceased.

As the last traces of mana faded, Jillia slowly lowered her sword, revealing that not a single attack had reached her.

Captain Luther and Prince Rayleigh could only stare in disbelief.

"Impossible..." the captain whispered.

Only then did Prince Rayleigh draw his blade, instinctively tightening his grip around its hilt.

The prince knew there was nothing he could do against a Grade Eight Blademaster Demon.

Still, with Captain Luther—an SS-Tier Saber whose strength rivaled that of General Iroh, they might at least have a fighting chance.

Before anyone could react any further, another figure drifted forward through the sky from behind Jillia.

He wore a half mask, while dark robes swayed gently around him and his arms remained calmly folded behind his back.

Lord Krygon.

The moment Rayleigh’s eyes settled on him, his entire body stiffened with fear. "No..."

The word had barely escaped his lips when his grip around his sword began to tremble.

He knew that was a Demon Lord. And not just any Demon Lord. The amount of magical power emanating from him could only mean he was one of the Ten Generals who served directly beneath the Demon King.

There was only one conclusion left. The head of House Krygon was here himself.

Jillia inclined her head respectfully. "My Lord, shall I remove these people?"

Lord Krygon’s indifferent gaze swept across the assembled soldiers before he answered, "They are nothing more than ants that would only delay us. We’re leaving."

"As you command." She said, sheathing the Dhurandar.

Lord Krygon flew forward, with Jillia following a few paces behind. Together, they calmly passed over the assembled army as though the hundreds of soldiers, mages, and officers below were beneath their notice.

However, Captain Luther refused to simply watch them leave. An immense surge of aura erupted from his body, spreading its pressure across the battlefield.

Prince Rayleigh reacted immediately. "Captain—no!"

His voice rang out in alarm because he knew that if the man before them truly was one of the Demon King’s Generals, then nobody present stood a chance against him.

However, Luther was already in motion. The ground beneath his feet exploded apart as he launched himself forward.

His entire body shot into the sky with such terrifying speed that he crossed the distance between them in the blink of an eye.

Luther was a Saber, and speed was his greatest strength. He brought his sword down with tremendous force, aiming directly at Lord Krygon.

His ascent was so fast that even Lord Krygon had to respond immediately, before Jillia had the chance to intervene.

Krygon calmly tilted his head to the side, allowing the blade to pass mere inches from his face. At the same time, his right palm gently struck Luther in the chest.

In the next moment, Captain Luther’s eyes widened as a translucent version of himself was forced out through his own body.

His astral form had been torn free from his physical body, as though someone had simply reached inside and pushed his very soul out of its vessel.

Luther’s lifeless body immediately began falling from the sky.

Meanwhile, his astral form remained suspended in stunned disbelief as Lord Krygon calmly drifted past him, as though the attack had never happened.

He didn’t even spare the captain another glance. Instead, with nothing more than a casual flick of his fingers, an invisible force seized Luther’s astral form.

In the next instant, his spirit was violently pulled downward, shooting straight back toward the body that was already plummeting to the ground below.
