Chapter 368: One Hell Of A Day (2nd Bonus)

Ethan was silent for a while before glancing at Ishtar. He saw how deeply those blunt words had saddened her.

Turning back to the King, he said, "She is a member of House Stark now, and she will never be used as anyone’s weapon."

The tone in his voice made the General startle for a brief moment.

There had been no anger behind those words, yet there was a conviction that left no room for negotiation.

The King and Ethan stared at one another for a while as the tension between them steadily grew.

Eventually, Carson let out a sigh and shook his head.

——

A few minutes later...

The doors of the throne room opened once more as Ethan and Ishtar stepped outside. The massive doors slowly closed behind them with a heavy rumble.

Neither of them spoke immediately.

Only after they had walked several meters away did Ishtar quietly glance toward Ethan before lowering her gaze once again.

Inside, King Carson rubbed his temples with a weary sigh.

General Iroh watched him for a moment before asking, "What will you do now, Your Majesty?"

For several seconds, Carson said nothing.

Then he turned away and said, "Gather your men and bring Rosalind in."

General Iroh inclined his head. "It shall be done."

Without speaking further, Carson made his way toward the private study.

The remainder of the day passed uneventfully.

News of the incident at Belsorth Academy spread to the public, sparking a wave of concerned discussions.

The headmaster had also instructed the students to remain at home for the rest of the week.

Elsewhere...

A black sedan rounded a street within one of Gritnia’s wealthier districts.

Rosalind was seated inside. She had only just finished attending a parliamentary meeting and was on her way home.

She absentmindedly looked through the documents on her lap, barely paying attention to the scenery outside.

Suddenly, the driver slammed on the brakes as several other vehicles had blocked the road ahead.

More vehicles arrived from behind, blockading every route.

Rosalind frowned. "Who are these people?"

One after another, the surrounding doors opened and Imperial Guards stepped out.

Within moments, the entire street had been surrounded.

General Iroh emerged from one of the sedans, and Rosalind’s expression changed almost immediately.

The battle that followed was neither brief nor easy.

She was a Grade Seven Gladiator Demon, the equivalent of a Warrior with seven meridians opened. Power of that level was enough to overwhelm most battalions single-handedly.

Buildings shook under the force of theirs clashes.

Gravity distorted sections of the battlefield while violent bursts of demonic energy repeatedly tore apart the surrounding streets, leaving overturned vehicles and shattered pavement in their wake.

However, General Iroh was no ordinary caster either.

His mastery over gravity magic constantly disrupted the demon’s movements, forcing it back whenever it attempted to escape, while the Imperial Guards coordinated their attacks around him in perfect sync.

Every opening he created was immediately exploited and every attempt Rosalind made to break through their formation was met with another coordinated assault.

After a prolonged battle that left large sections of the street in ruins, the demon was finally subdued.

Within the Morgenstein Residence...

Beatrice walked through the corridors leading to the main entrance as several attendants followed at a respectful distance behind her. She had always enjoyed this sort of treatment, having people at her beck and call to attend to her every need.

As she approached the entrance, one of the servants hurried forward and opened the doors for her.

Lady Morgenstein then walked out to the sight of a figure dressed in black that descended from the skies and hovered at some distance above.

Dark Nova.

Beatrice had been notified that he was here, but seeing him now still brought a fresh wave of surprise.

"It seems I may have been wrong." Norman began.

"I dismissed your claims too quickly."

She smiled, feeling some level of elation build within.

"I believed the matter surrounding House Morgenstein’s former Family Leader had already reached its proper conclusion," Norman continued. "But I now realize this country is too deeply rooted in corruption for me to continue believing that."

His expression remained as unreadable as ever.

"So I will reopen the investigation, and I will uncover those responsible for the deaths of House Morgenstein’s former Family Leader and the other family leaders who once stood as pillars of this country."

"You have my word."

Without waiting for a response, he looked up before rocketing into the sky.

Beatrice continued watching the Hero disappear into the distance, a satisfied smile on her face.

"Very good," she whispered.

Her fingers unconsciously tightened around the sleeve of her dress.

"Very... very good."

——

Later that night...

Ethan sat up in bed with his back resting on the headboard, and his attention fixed on the translucent screen hovering before him.

[Experience Points Balance: 399,750]

He had gained a few more experience points over the last day, all earned from events ranging from his engagement to Hayley, the intimate night they shared together, and rescuing Ishtar during the confrontation with Dark Nova.

There wasn’t much left to reach the desired 400,000 goal.

Ethan exhaled, then dismissed the screen, allowing it to disappear from his sight.

Just then, the bathroom door opened, and his eyes instinctively lifted toward Isabella as she stepped out, fresh from the shower and gently drying her damp hair with a towel.

For a brief moment, Ethan simply stared.

She noticed almost immediately and smiled. "What?"

He smiled. "You know... I don’t think I’ve ever seen you not look beautiful."

A soft laugh escaped her lips as she crossed the room and climbed onto the bed beside him. Gently cupping his face, she leaned in and kissed him.

Once they parted, she asked. "So, how did it go with my father?"

Ethan exhaled. "It was alright... although there was a point where I honestly thought we were about to have a serious disagreement."

"But, It never reached that point. I think everything worked itself out."

Her expression softened as she gently squeezed his hand. "It’ll be fine. And if my dad ever gives you any problems..."

A playful smile appeared on her face.

"...just let me know to talk some sense into him."

Ethan smiled a little. "I’ll keep that in mind."

She smiled back before getting off the bed and walking over to the dresser to change for the night.

Ethan found himself watching her for a few moments.

Then a random thought suddenly crossed his mind.

"Babe... you know how I tell you everything," he began.

"Almost everything," she corrected, gathering her hair into a neat ponytail.

Ethan chuckled a bit. "Yes, almost. But this one’s about Hayley."

She turned halfway toward him. "Oh? What about her?"

Ethan rubbed the back of his neck. "So...If we... you know..."

He raised both hands, awkwardly making a small gesture with his fingers as though trying to imitate two people becoming intimate, his expression growing increasingly embarrassed the longer he attempted to explain it.

"...I don’t exactly have to tell you... right?" He asked

For a second, Isabella stared at him, then burst into laughter.

"Oh, dear." She shook her head, turning back toward the dresser.

"You absolutely do not have to tell me." She smiled to herself. "In fact, I’d very much prefer not to know."

Ethan laughed along with her. "Fair enough."

Then she quickly turned back to clarify. "I mean... not that I’d be mad or anything. It’s just... kinda weird, you know?"

"Yeah..." Ethan nodded with a small laugh. "Makes sense."

A brief silence followed. Only then did Ethan realize just how awkward that entire conversation had been.

——

Krygon Province - Demon Continent...

A figure stood before the towering windows, overlooking the distant lights of the city below.

He had long horns and was dressed in dark robes, their sleeves hanging loosely while long hair flowed down his back.

On the index finger of his right hand rested a claw-like sheath of golden metal, extending beyond the fingertip into a razor-sharp point.

The doors behind him slowly opened and a demoness entered with measured steps.

She had curved horns, while her fitted attire accentuated a graceful, alluring figure.

This demoness approached until she stood a few paces behind him before lowering her head. "My Lord."

After a long silence, he finally spoke. "Jillia... Too much time has passed."

His hand lightly traced the stone railing, the metal claw producing a slow scraping sound against its surface.

For some reason, the noise alone caused the demoness behind him to lower her head even further.

"It seems...I’ll have to take care of this myself."
