Chapter 372: Suicide Squad
Chapter 370
Kai was just about to explain his plan when Ray exhaled loudly.
"No. We fight to win."
"...."
"....?!"
"Huh?"
Ray clenched his fists tightly, his teeth grinding back and forth as he turned his back on Nebula’s rampage.
He faced his cohort.
"If we were to escape, how do we free Van and Caster from the mental manipulation? We don’t know how far her range is."
Kai frowned.
"The Corps will surely have something they can do. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of Meta-humans in Alcatraz. Humanity is not as weak as it used to be. There will surely be a Meta with the ability to count—"
"—And if there’s none, huh? I don’t even care about Caster. His family is part of the Big Four, so they will surely do something. But Van?"
He paused dramatically.
"In case you forgot; we don’t have the backing of the Big Four. We were survivors of the fallen Wall Rose. We aren’t special trainees. And we both know that if Van proves to be a threat because of the mind control, then the government won’t hesitate to have him executed."
"...."
"But—"
Ray shot Chloe a sharp glare.
"I promise you all. If anything happens to Van, I will become the catastrophe you all fear."
"...."
He paused, watching as the cohort’s gazes sharpened on him instantly.
Without saying anything more, Ray turned around.
"You all can leave. I will create the opening you want and allow you all to escape. But I’m staying here to fight her. I must free my best friend from her clutches. I ain’t taking any chances."
There was a second of silence until,
«Are you crazy?!»
[Are you mad, Host?!]
His System and Elyon barked in unison as though they had planned it together.
Then there was a brief pause, as if the two were waiting for the other to continue after realizing they were on the same page.
Seeing that the Celestial wasn’t going to speak, the System continued:
[Now I have realized that you are a moron. A five-year-old has more brains than you do. Do you see what it’s doing?! Open your damn eyes and look!]
Ray stared at Nebula reducing the King-rank spiders to nothing beneath her scythe-like legs.
[... And you plan on defeating it? How? With magic? Shablalala scadoosh?! You dumbass! Escape with your friends.]
’Did I ask for your op—’
"Ugh... you are really crazy. Sigh...." Kai groaned as he cracked his neck left and right.
Ray turned his head to look at the Legacy with a raised brow.
".... Crazy to think I will abandon both you and Van. Come on; is that how badly you think of me?"
"I mean, why would I also abandon my brother here? What sort of brother would I be?" Felix chimed in.
His lips parted into a wide grin, his eyes flashing yellow.
"All boys I know are stupid, brain-dead foo—"
"Hm. I guess I can join in. After all, it’s just an Emperor-rank beast." Trisha coldly added.
Chloe froze in horror.
"Even you?! Are you mad? You call that beast ’just’? Oh, for fuck’s sake. What sort of group did I—"
"Chloe, you don’t have to fight." Kai interrupted the girl calmly.
"In fact, you shouldn’t. Because I have a more important task for you."
Chloe lifted a brow.
"Huh? What task?"
Kai lifted his gaze to the ceiling and then back to the tied-up Caster and Van.
"How much Meta-Force do you have left?"
Chloe thought for a few seconds.
"Not that much."
"I also don’t have a lot of MF." Trisha added with a heavy sigh.
Ray looked at the group for a few seconds before heaving a tired sigh.
"I can fix that."
They all turned to look at the boy with confused expressions until a shimmering glow began flashing across his palm.
Soon, two vials filled with a green liquid could be seen resting comfortably in his hand.
"Here. This should help."
He handed the vials to Trisha and Kai.
"What’s this?" Trisha asked with a suspicious look.
Ray waved his hand dismissively.
"Just hurry and drink it."
With a shrug, Kai uncorked the bottle and downed it in one go.
Trisha watched for any strange reaction as the Legacy wiped his lips with a satisfied sigh.
"...."
A second later, the handsome boy’s eyes widened in shock.
Then, a small smile curved across his lips.
"Whoa! It replenished my Meta-Force? How?"
On hearing that, Trisha didn’t waste any time drinking her own vial.
But she didn’t finish it all.
Instead, she handed the remainder to Chloe while feeling her own Meta-Force replenish.
Ray smiled.
’Thanks to the System Shop for handing me a few awesome rewards here and there.’
"But what about you? Didn’t you say that you were exhausted just now?" Chloe inquired while wiping her lips.
"Full Recovery." Ray suddenly uttered with confidence.
[New System Skill; Full Recovery]
[Description; Allows Host to recover all he had lost in the past twenty-four hours. All skills on cooldown, all exhausted energy pools, and all exhaustion would be reverted. Host will be as good as new.]
[Note: Skill can only be used twice a day.]
Ray smirked.
This was the new System skill he had received after completing the first trial down below.
And with the activation of the skill, he could see his energy and Meta-Force counters rapidly refilling.
His aching muscles relaxed as every trace of fatigue left his body.
His body was being relieved of all exhaustion.
His gaze sharpened, and even his stance became steadier and more imposing.
Kai was already informing Chloe of what she was to do.
The Spider Queen was down to her last two King-rank children to kill.
"Here." Ray uttered as he stretched his hand in Trisha’s direction.
A sleek, good-looking katana appeared in his hand.
The girl stared at it with doubt in her eyes.
"It’s of the King rank. Consider it a gift from me for destroying your previous sword."
There was no time to hesitate anymore.
Trisha accepted the katana.
A few practice swings later, she nodded in satisfaction.
Purple lightning crackled around Ray’s hands, and soon, two sleek-looking daggers appeared in his grasp.
So far, these were the weapons he had received from the System Shop.
These daggers too were of the King rank.
But would they be enough to damage an Emperor-rank beast covered from head to toe in violet chitin...?
Nope!
But they still had to try.
[Cloak of Durability]
Flap—! Flap—!
Purple lightning flashed, and a cloak settled over Ray’s body from his inventory.
It looked almost like a shroud.
Black in colour, with its hem tattered and suspended in place—it didn’t sway.
Instead, it seemed frozen in the air, refusing to move even an inch.
Lifting the hood over his head, Ray’s gaze sharpened.
The atmosphere around him seemed to change as determination replaced every trace of exhaustion.
Felix was seen walking towards the boy and stopping beside him while wiping his lips clean.
The werewolf licked his claws for a second like someone who had just finished a feast.
Looking behind him for a brief moment, Ray could see that about two spiders had been mutilated beyond recognition.
Chloe shuffled away from the group—poised several metres behind them as she prepared herself to carry out the task Kai had assigned to her.
"Man.... I will be lying if I said that I’m not scared." Kai uttered as crystal began running around his arms, forming purple gauntlets that covered both of them entirely.
Nebula was done killing her own children.
"AAAAAAAH!"
SCREEECH—!
She let out another powerful scream that sent shockwaves blasting in all directions, and for the first time, the cloak on Ray’s body swayed.
At once, the numerous eyes on Nebula’s head rolled in the Aspirants’ direction.
The murderous intent radiating from her was so overwhelming that the very air felt heavier.
"Fuck.... My body is still shaking." Felix gulped loudly while transforming his hands and legs, leaving the rest of his body bare.
Tightening his grip on his daggers, Ray crossed them in front of his face.
[Are you guys really doing this?]
«Hm. This will be fun.» Bruce, who had been bored outta his mind, walked closer to the chair to get a better view of what was about to happen.
Brandishing the sword, frost rapidly rushed forward from beneath Trisha’s legs.
SCREEEECH—!
Nebula swung two legs forward, smashing them into the ground before ripping them upward—sending chunks of marble and dust billowing into the air.
The chamber trembled violently beneath the sheer force of the attack.
"Let’s Go!" Ray shouted as he lunged forward alongside his friends, who followed him without hesitation.
Every step they took carried them closer to death.
What they were hell-bent on doing was nothing short of suicide, and they all knew it.
But they had no choice.
It had to be done!
