Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Force Field Enhancement, Metallic Sphere

The City of Ruins.

At the entrance of a dilapidated residential complex.

Chen Yu and his group appeared.

The complex was overgrown with wild grass, and the dilapidated buildings looked precarious, as if they could collapse at any moment.

Clutching their combat knives, they all raised their guard.

The Life Detector was useless against the Neal Cuttlefish, so they had to rely on themselves for everything.

’First, I’ll upgrade the Biological Force Field!’

Looking at the completely deserted complex, a thought crossed Chen Yu’s mind.

"Skill upgrade successful!"

A line of faint text appeared.

Ten thousand points of Source of Life were gone. But now, he was practically rolling in it!

A mere ten thousand was nothing!

As his Biological Force Field Skill was upgraded, Chen Yu sensed certain changes in the world around him.

The change was incredibly subtle!

The invisible, special power had grown more than ten times stronger than before.

Previously, with his Biological Force Field Skill, he could only create a Force Field the size of a single person, which was very limited.

But now, he felt he could create a Biological Force Field the size of a hundred-square-meter house!

It was an increase of more than tenfold!

Moreover, Chen Yu could faintly perceive the internal environment of the abandoned complex.

It was as if nothing could hide from his eyes.

Force Field sense!

He could sense the surrounding environment by manipulating the Force Field, almost like a kind of X-ray vision.

However, this ability required him to keep the Biological Force Field Skill constantly active.

His Spiritual Power was draining away, bit by bit.

Compared to before, the drain after upgrading the Biological Force Field Skill was much more noticeable.

It was a huge leap forward.

Scanning the complex, Chen Yu "saw" a collapsed area in an abandoned room deep inside, using his Force Field sense.

This collapsed area was just like the one at the abandoned factory.

Through his Force Field sense, however, Chen Yu didn’t see any Neal Cuttlefish in the collapsed area.

He only saw some shattered metal fragments, which looked like pieces of a Neal Cuttlefish’s metal egg.

’Could there be a Neal Cuttlefish mother body here too?’

The thought surfaced in Chen Yu’s mind.

With this in mind, Chen Yu strode toward the location within the complex that he had sensed with his Force Field.

Huh?

Cai Kun and the other two were startled to see Chen Yu heading straight for the depths of the complex.

’Did he discover something?’ The three of them exchanged glances, but instead of calling out to stop Chen Yu, they followed him silently.

Besides his Ice Ability, Chen Yu had other special abilities they didn’t know about.

After spending this time together, they had all subconsciously chosen to trust him.

Chen Yu paid them no mind and soon arrived at the entrance of a supermarket deep within the complex.

It was just a small supermarket, like any other you’d find in a residential area.

The supermarket was pitch-black, but the darkness had little effect on their vision.

Chen Yu entered the supermarket through the entrance.

Plastic packaging was scattered across the floor, and steel shelves lay toppled everywhere.

Chen Yu scanned the area and walked to the supermarket’s storeroom, which was blocked by a dilapidated wooden door.

He casually pushed the door open, revealing a collapsed area.

CRACKLE—!

An Ran stretched out her hand, and a ball of silver lightning coalesced in her palm, instantly illuminating the darkness.

They all looked down. Just like the collapsed area in the abandoned factory, this one was very deep and large.

The light from the ball of lightning clearly revealed some shattered metal fragments below.

But besides the metal fragments, there was nothing else.

However, deep tracks had been left behind.

These tracks were identical to the ones in the cuttlefish nest at the factory.

"Could this be another mother cuttlefish’s nest?!" Meng Li exclaimed in surprise.

The three of them turned their gazes to Chen Yu.

"My intuition told me," Chen Yu said calmly.

Intuition?

Hearing such a flimsy answer, the three of them looked at each other, nonplussed.

Still, they couldn’t come up with any other explanation.

Although it was a bit flimsy, it was barely acceptable.

"It looks like the mother cuttlefish has already left," Cai Kun said.

"I’m going down to take a look," Chen Yu said. As soon as he finished speaking, he leaped directly into the dark nest.

The other three stood at the edge, craning their necks to look down.

The nest was huge. Chen Yu scanned it and saw a massive tunnel in its depths, leading to an unknown destination.

’It really did get away...’

Chen Yu saw some tracks in the tunnel and sighed internally.

A mother cuttlefish... that was six thousand points of Source of Life!

What a pity to have missed it.

"Hm?"

’What’s this?’

Just as he was about to jump out of the nest, Chen Yu suddenly stopped, his gaze shifting to the side.

A round metal ball lay silently in the darkness.

Chen Yu walked over and examined the metal ball closely.

It wasn’t large!

Only about the size of a fist.

’It’s warm...’

Chen Yu picked up the metal ball. He could faintly feel a trace of heat, but it quickly dissipated, and the ball returned to a normal temperature.

It was made of an unknown metal, with some faint, special patterns interwoven on its surface.

"Chen Yu, how is it? Did you find anything?" Cai Kun’s voice came from above. Chen Yu snapped back to his senses, and holding the metal ball, he leaped out of the underground nest.

"There’s a huge tunnel down there. It looks like the mother cuttlefish already left. All I found was this thing."

Chen Yu held out the metal ball for them to see.

The three of them stared at the dark gold metal ball, which was engraved with unknown patterns.

"What is this?"

"Don’t tell me it’s another cuttlefish egg?" An Ran asked, looking at the dark gold metal ball with curiosity as she reached out to touch it.

"..."

"Since when are cuttlefish eggs this small?" Meng Li shot her a look.

"Can you identify this material?" Chen Yu asked, looking at Cai Kun.

Cai Kun stared at the metal ball and shook his head. "I can’t tell. It’s a bit similar to the material of the cuttlefish monster’s mechanical tentacles, but it seems to have other metals mixed in."

"That thing is probably worthless," Meng Li chimed in.

"It’s still a find. I’ll keep it as a collectible."

Chen Yu looked at the metal ball, listened to their analysis, and then put it in his pants pocket.

The others didn’t say anything. It was just a metal ball. Even if the material was special, its value was negligible to them.

Of course, the main reason for this was the talent and abilities Chen Yu had displayed.

Even if it were a rare treasure, they wouldn’t have thought about taking it.

His own potential was far more valuable than any treasure!

"Let’s check some other places. Maybe we can still find the mother cuttlefish."

Cai Kun spoke, and the others nodded before leaving the area.

After searching the complex to no avail, Chen Yu’s group headed off toward other parts of the ruined city.

...

Twenty-four hours passed quickly.

With only about half an hour left, the vast majority of people had already gathered in front of the Space-Time Gate.

However, four people were still missing.

"Captain Lin, do you think Cai Kun’s group has run into some trouble? Should we send support?"

Someone asked.

The Vice-Captain was looking into the distance, just about to use his communication device, when a loud explosion suddenly echoed from the nearby forest.

BOOM—!!!

A brilliant light flashed, and a visible plume of dust shot into the sky.

The crowd turned in unison to look toward the explosion in the forest.

Did something really happen?!

Everyone was startled as they watched the site of the massive explosion in the forest.

With only half an hour left, an accident had occurred.

"Captain Lin, we’re going to provide support!" Duan Feng and Lola said at the same time.

The Vice-Captain shook his head. "No need. They’re already on their way."

As soon as he finished speaking, four figures emerged from the forest in the distance.

"Thank goodness, they’re okay."

Seeing the figures of Chen Yu’s group of four, everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief.

If an accident had happened at the last moment, it would have been a disaster!
