Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Neil Civilization

BOOM—!

The frozen mechanical squid shattered into more than a dozen pieces and scattered across the ground.

The entire street looked as if it had been plowed over, a complete mess.

With the last mechanical squid monster slain, the four of them stood on the ravaged street, surrounded by the corpses of the machines.

A bone-chilling aura filled the air.

White frost filled the sky!

The street looked as if it had transformed into an Ice Purgatory.

GULP~

Not far away, two members of the first squad watched the scene, swallowing involuntarily.

’Incredible!’

’Unbelievably strong!’

’The coordination between these Awakened was simply flawless.’

’Their cultivation levels might be lower than ours, but their strength—the teamwork of these four—is enough to completely dominate us.’

’They’re called the first-echelon Awakened of humanity, and they truly live up to the name!’

Having dealt with the mechanical squids, Chen Yu summoned his interface to check his Source of Life.

He had lost count of how many mechanical squids he had killed.

29,590!

"Not bad."

Looking at the massive increase in his Source of Life, Chen Yu let out a soft sigh of relief.

In this one wave, he had gained over twenty thousand Source of Life.

It was the first time he had ever gained so much Source of Life at once.

’For a High-level Mutant Beast, I wouldn’t need to kill so many. Just one might be enough.’

Snapping back to the present, Chen Yu looked at Duan Feng and the others not far away. Then, with a flicker, he instantly appeared before them.

Meng Li and the other two followed suit.

"Captain Duan, are you all right?"

Chen Yu asked, looking at Duan Feng. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

Duan Feng shook his head and glanced at Lola beside him. "I’m fine. Not dead yet. Broken bones and torn ligaments are normal in our line of work."

"Chen Yu, thank you."

Beside them, Lola opened her eyes, a smile appearing on her face.

"Don’t mention it. We’re from the same safe zone; we should help each other out," Chen Yu replied with a slight smile.

"How did you guys end up running into so many of these mechanical squid monsters?" An Ran suddenly asked.

A young team member spoke up. "We don’t know either. We had just entered an abandoned residential complex. Before we could even start exploring, these squid monsters appeared."

"An abandoned residential complex..." Chen Yu’s eyes narrowed.

"It’s just around the corner from this street," the young team member said, pointing in a direction.

Their gazes followed the direction he was pointing.

SWOOSH! SWOOSH!

Just then, a series of whooshing sounds came from nearby. They turned toward the noise to see four figures speeding toward them.

It was the fourth squad, led by the deputy captain.

In the blink of an eye, the deputy captain and his three squad members arrived before them.

They were all quite shocked as they looked at the devastated street and the broken corpses of the mechanical squid monsters.

The deputy captain’s gaze fell on Chen Yu and his group.

"You’re the ones who took care of these Neil squids?"

’Neil squids?’

Chen Yu and the others were taken aback when they heard the deputy captain speak.

Cai Kun nodded. "Yes. We saw the flare and rushed over. But the main credit for this goes to Chen Yu."

’Oh?’

The deputy captain looked at Chen Yu, his eyes lighting up.

"Captain Lin, are ’Neil squids’ the name for these mechanical squid monsters?"

Chen Yu asked.

The deputy captain nodded. "Yes, these mechanical squids are the Neil squids. They’re a type of modified lifeform created by the Neil Civilization. They’re very unique and possess the technological attacks of the Neil Civilization, making them extremely difficult to deal with."

"An adult Neil squid is typically more ferocious than a Level 3 Mutant Beast. If it’s a Neil mother squid, it would be comparable to a Level 4 Mutant Beast at the very least."

"The Neil Civilization..."

Listening to the deputy captain’s explanation, Chen Yu felt his horizons broaden immensely.

His words had opened up a whole new world!

The Neil Civilization...

’This also seems to be a highly intelligent civilization!’

"Captain Lin, does that mean this Crane Ridge Abyssal Realm is the world of the Neil Civilization?"

An Ran asked curiously, blinking as she looked at the deputy captain.

The deputy captain nodded. "We couldn’t be sure before, but after seeing these Neil squids, we can confirm it."

Hearing this, Cai Kun frowned. "Captain Lin, if these Neil squids are modified lifeforms, why did we see them hatching naturally from eggs earlier?"

"That must be the result of some kind of mutation. It might be related to the Alien Race that destroyed this world," the deputy captain replied.

"So, the Neil Civilization was also a human civilization?" Chen Yu asked, curious.

The deputy captain nodded. "They should be. In the vast cosmos, there are other humans besides those in our Nine Realms. However, they are very far away. We can only find traces of their civilizations in certain Abyssal Realms."

"By the way, you mentioned seeing Neil squids hatching from eggs. Don’t tell me you stumbled into a Neil squid nest?"

The deputy captain asked, looking at Chen Yu’s group.

The group exchanged glances and nodded lightly.

Cai Kun spoke up. "We ran into one in an abandoned industrial park earlier. It must have been a Neil mother squid. Fortunately, Chen Yu’s ability had a breakthrough, which allowed him to defeat it."

"!!!"

Hearing this, the deputy captain’s expression changed the instant he looked at Chen Yu.

’If I recall correctly, Chen Yu only awakened his ability a few days ago. In just a few days, his power has already surpassed several students from the Superpower Academy?’

’What’s more, Cai Kun is a second-year student at the Superpower Academy. His control over his abilities is far from just ordinarily skilled and powerful!’

’Are Ice Ability Awakeners really this strong?!’

’Don’t tell me this guy is some kind of prodigy?’

"How many Neil squid eggs were there?" the deputy captain asked Cai Kun, composing himself.

"Over a hundred, I think. A few dozen had just hatched, and the rest hadn’t. We wiped them all out," Cai Kun replied.

The deputy captain nodded, then turned to Duan Feng’s group. Seeing that Duan Feng and Lola were injured, he took out two small vials of green liquid. "This is a Gene-Origin Divine Potion. Drink it. It will heal your injuries."

"Thank you, Captain Lin." The two of them took the Gene-Origin Divine Potions and drank them down.

Instantly, the color returned to their pale faces, and their auras surged. In a flash, they seemed to have recovered eighty to ninety percent of their strength.

"Your squad will stick with me. We’ll operate jointly," the deputy captain said to Lola and the others.

Lola and her team nodded. If they encountered such danger again, they might not get a second chance.

"Captain Lin, we’d like to go check out the place where they just encountered the Neil squids," said Cai Kun.

Captain Lin glanced at the four of them and nodded lightly. "All right. Be careful."

Cai Kun’s group of four nodded, and with a flicker, they sped off in the direction the young team member had pointed.

Captain Lin stood his ground, watching their four receding figures. Only after a long moment did he speak.

"What was the situation just now? Give me the details."

Duan Feng and his team gave a rough description of what had just happened. Listening to their account, Captain Lin stared in the direction where Chen Yu’s group had disappeared, a storm of shock raging in his heart.

’Looks like this kid is a shoo-in for the Superpower Academy. It’s a shame he can’t stay in Qing City.’

Captain Lin sighed to himself.

But he also knew that for someone with such outstanding abilities, staying in a place like Qing City would only be a waste.

Only in a base city could he truly spread his wings and show his strength.

Furthermore, judging from the expressions and words of Cai Kun and the other two, they held Chen Yu in high admiration. Even if he wanted to keep him here, it would be impossible.

The Superpower Academy would never let an Awakened talent like this go to waste; they would certainly recruit him.

If the Superpower Academy made the request, the Mercenary Association could only comply.

Their statuses were different.

Behind the Superpower Academy was the Superpower Alliance!

The first-echelon Awakened experts of humanity!

Their status could even be said to be above the five great allied nations!
