Chapter 148: Chapter 148: She’ll Fall Into My Hands Sooner or Later
Chi Wan’s words left Zhou Huaijin at a loss, unable to say what he’d planned.
He stammered, "I... I’m sorry, Wanwan. I was just worried he wouldn’t make it in time, so I..."
But Chi Wan’s tone was light. "It’s fine, Senior Brother~ My boyfriend can protect me even when he’s not here. Really, don’t worry."
Hearing Chi Wan’s absolute trust in Li Xingye, Zhou Huaijin couldn’t help but feel a pang of bitterness. But he also knew he had no real reason to force his way into her business.
Feeling dejected, Zhou Huaijin hung up. He was finally, slowly, beginning to accept the fact that Chi Wan had a boyfriend.
Meanwhile, on Chi Wan’s end, Song Yangming was holding his breath as he listened in, terrified that she’d get picked up by someone else before they arrived.
Thankfully, Chi Wan refused the offer. Song Yangming breathed a sigh of relief and asked in surprise, "Wanwan, when did you get a boyfriend? Does my sister know?"
Chi Wan gave a sweet smile. "Of course they do. They just haven’t met him yet."
Song Yangming felt a little uneasy seeing how confident Chi Wan was about this boyfriend of hers, so he pressed, "So what does he do for a living?"
Chi Wan brushed him off. "His work is confidential. I can’t even see him when he’s on the job. Are we there yet?"
She really couldn’t be bothered to play nice with Song Yangming.
Song Yangming relaxed at her words, but he quickly felt he was overthinking things. ’Where could someone like Chi Wan possibly find a boyfriend who could stand up to the He Family?’
"We’re here, we’re here! Right this way."
He eagerly got out of the car and led Chi Wan towards a side door.
By the time they reached the door, they could already hear the faint sounds of a lively party inside.
They had come this far; Chi Wan couldn’t escape now. Song Yangming dropped the act. Pointing at the door with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes, he said, "Wanwan, you go in first. I have something to take care of. I’ll come find you in a little while."
A flicker of suspicion crossed Chi Wan’s face. "You’re not tricking me, are you? This doesn’t sound like a simple party."
Song Yangming stretched his lips into a grin. "What are you talking about, Wanwan? How could your uncle ever hurt you?"
As he spoke, he shot a meaningful look to the side.
Suddenly, two men in black appeared from the darkness. They opened the side door and gestured to Chi Wan. "Miss Chi, let’s go. Our master has been waiting for you for a long time. But first, please hand over your phone."
Chi Wan acted as if she’d only just realized something was wrong. She shot Song Yangming a vicious glare. "I just remembered I have something..."
Before she could finish, she smashed the bag in her hand into one of the men’s faces and spun around to run!
But to her despair, her fate had been sealed the moment she got into the car. She was doomed not to escape.
She was quickly subdued by the men in black. Watching Chi Wan struggle, the last shred of unease in Song Yangming’s heart vanished.
A small smile played on his lips as he tried to placate her. "It’s all right, Wanwan. Your uncle is just setting you up with a wonderful match."
Chi Wan sneered. "Song Yangming, I really thought you might have learned your lesson. But I guess a dog can’t be taught not to eat shit. To see you like this today... it must be your good karma paying off."
Hearing Chi Wan mock him, Song Yangming’s face darkened. "You dare bring that up! If you people hadn’t refused to pay off my debts, I wouldn’t be in this position! Heh heh, Wanwan, you just go ahead and enjoy this wonderful evening. Uncle is very much looking forward to seeing what *your* good karma looks like. Try not to disappoint me."
With that, he turned to the two men in black. "My part is done. The things he promised me..."
The man in black masked the disdain on his face. "Go home and wait."
Song Yangming’s smile stiffened. He was cursing them out in his head, but he kept a fawning expression on his face. "Well, could you have the driver take me back? I..."
"Get the hell out of here! If you mess this up, do you think you have enough lives to make up for it?!"
The man’s words made Song Yangming’s expression shift. Chi Wan, standing to the side, taunted, "It seems He Lingfeng doesn’t care much for his little lapdog. I don’t get it. He did this to you, and you’re still playing the loyal dog. You must have some kind of special fetish, huh?"
Song Yangming was so furious his eyes went red, but his rational mind told him he couldn’t stay here any longer.
He shot Chi Wan a vicious glare. The thought of what was about to happen to her brought a cold, sinister smile to his face. "You should worry about yourself."
Sneering, Chi Wan allowed the men in black to lead her into the courtyard.
Once inside the courtyard, one of the men lowered his voice. "There’s a scanner up ahead. It will detect any electronics on you."
Chi Wan had already guessed these two were Song Baihan’s men, so she wasn’t surprised. "Understood. Just act normal and escort me over. I’ll take care of the rest."
The men said nothing more, leading Chi Wan toward the pool party.
The raucous laughter grew clearer, interspersed with all sorts of flirtatious, breathy voices. Chi Wan was now just a wall away from the gathering.
Sure enough, the entrance to the pool party was equipped with a security scanner. Not only were electronics like phones confiscated, but even jewelry was meticulously inspected. Any intricately designed pieces that might conceal a camera were taken away, supposedly for "centralized safekeeping."
There was even an infrared device specifically for detecting cameras. Any equipment designed to evade detection would be rendered useless after passing through this gate.
Chi Wan was suddenly grateful. ’It’s a good thing I’m the one here, and not Qin Shi.’
’Because I can use my spatial storage to hide everything. If it had been Qin Shi, even if the disguised cameras I gave her passed the initial scan, the infrared would have disabled them.’
’I have to admit,’ Chi Wan thought, ’the fact that He Lingfeng hasn’t screwed up after all these years isn’t just dumb luck. He’s actually quite cautious.’
Chi Wan was "forced" to hand over her phone. After passing through a few more checks, she was finally brought before He Lingfeng.
He Lingfeng was in swim trunks, his upper body bare, with a bikini-clad beauty in his arms.
When he saw Chi Wan being led over, a triumphant smile spread across his face. "You see, Miss Chi? I told you. Sooner or later, anyone I want falls right into my hands."
A flash of humiliation crossed Chi Wan’s face. "You think this is enough to make me give in? Is this the extent of your abilities?"
He Lingfeng scoffed. "The ends justify the means. Surely you don’t think I’m looking for a relationship with you, Miss Chi? I had no idea you had such misplaced confidence in your own charm."
A guy next to him also started laughing. "When has Young Master He ever bothered with pure love? A pure fuck, on the other hand... now that I’d believe! HAHAHAHA..."
His words sent the surrounding crowd into a fit of malicious laughter.
"That stubborn look on her face is a real turn-on. Young Master He, let me go second, huh?"
"You’re already calling dibs, you bastard? No way. I’m taking third."
He Lingfeng stared at Chi Wan’s face. Seeing that defiant expression she wore even in a situation like this, he felt a mix of lust and rage building until he was about to explode.
He said with a wide grin, "What’s the rush? Once I’ve had my fun with her, you can all play as much as you like."
