Chapter 9: Synthesis
"Hey, hey, look who it is..."
Half an hour later, Aurelius had just gone through the academy’s entrance when a discordant voice echoed behind him.
Perhaps because of this body’s instinct, he immediately turned around to face its owner. Upon seeing them, forced a wry smile.
Long black hair, black eyes, and a beautiful face—he immediately recognized her identity.
Forcing a smile on his face, he nodded in greeting.
"Selene, you don’t have to look at me like that. I’ve already apologized for what happened before. I’m a changed man..." he tried to say something, but Selene simply sneered in response.
"Haha. Are you trying to trick me again? Aurelius, do you take me for a fool?"
As she spoke, her gaze toward him grew odd. A trace of surprise flashed across her eyes.
"How come you have time to visit the academy?" She crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow.
"Did you get bored of Mia too?"
"Have you found another innocent girl to chase? Hmph!"
Selene’s sneer grew even more contemptuous.
She stared at Aurelius with disdain for one final time before turning with a huff and entering the academy.
Aurelius made no attempt to stop her.
He simply touched his nose with some embarrassment.
He knew that his previous reputation and actions had finally caught up with him.
The predecessor had chased after Selene for several weeks, showering her with gifts and affection in the hopes of having her become his girlfriend.
Yet just as she was starting to fall and the two looked bound to get together, he suddenly changed his mind and pursued her best friend instead.
The result was obvious. Selene had labeled him as both a scumbag and a pervert.
Unfortunately, there was nothing Aurelius could do to change her opinion.
He couldn’t possibly say that it was not him who did so, right?
At most, he could only work in the future to fix his damaged reputation.
Aurelius briefly noted this down before he threw it to the back of his mind.
Then, he resumed his steps and made his way toward the Sol mansion.
--
Due to his excitement, it took Aurelius even less time to return home.
Since it was early morning, the mansion was mostly empty.
Only some servants could be seen wandering around and tending the garden and house, while Elena was out.
This made Aurelius relieved as he headed straight to his room.
After securing the door, he lay on the bed and focused on the three flickering notifications in his field of vision.
"Skill—Fireball. Requirements: INT 14. Class: Mage. The Player currently does not meet the requirements!"
"Ding!"
"Mythical Class Arcanist has been activated. Arcanist’s Heart has taken effect! You’ve met the requirements!"
"Skill—Dark Veil. Requirements: AGI 16. Class: Assassin..."
"..."
"Skill—Wind Blessing. Requirements: INT 14. Mana 190. Class: Priest..."
"..."
Aurelius had found three useful skills during his stay in the library.
The others had even more stringent requirements, and even with his high Base Stats, he was unable to learn them.
Of course, even for these three skills, he did not really meet the requirements.
More precisely, he lacked the required Class in order to learn them.
Thankfully, the Mythical Arcanist Class had finally begun to show its true potential.
The iron rule—that only certain Classes could learn certain skills—had finally been broken!
Through Arcanist’s Heart, Aurelius had managed to do the impossible!
Looking at the three prompts asking for his confirmation, he didn’t hesitate. He immediately clicked Yes.
"Congratulations, you’ve learned: Fireball."
"Congratulations..."
"..."
The accompanying information emerged in his mind.
Aurelius sensed that he could activate these three skills as long as he wanted, just like those awakened through the Arcanist Class.
Today’s gains had gone beyond his expectations.
Not only had he obtained the so-called cheat Sub-Class, but he had even managed to obtain three skills.
In fact, Aurelius’ identity should have allowed him to obtain a lot more than these.
Unfortunately, he suspected that his actions might be monitored.
Whether it was because of his father’s real wife or the mysterious Amanda, he knew he should not show any obvious changes.
Despite these gains, Aurelius did not leave his room.
He knew he had something else to deal with first. Or rather, something else to experiment with.
Synthesis!
This mysterious skill, which seemed the core of the Arcanist Class, could finally be put into use!
Aurelius had never used it before. Not because he didn’t want to, but because he lacked the necessary "materials".
It was only now, when he finally obtained three brand-new skills, that this skill could display its full potential.
Aurelius’ expression turned serious. His mind concentrated, as the Spirit within his body surged to activate Synthesis.
His field of vision abruptly changed.
The world in his eyes became countless times clearer and more colorful, as several lights flew out of his body and danced before him.
Eight, to be exact.
Each of these lights carried a unique aura and its own distinct shape.
Aurelius knew that these were not simply lights.
Rather, they represented each of his skills—besides Synthesis itself, of course.
As his gaze wandered through them, he found he could instinctively sense which was which.
At the same time, all it required was a thought to forcibly fuse them together.
Aurelius’ eyes briefly lingered on the Arcanist and Alchemist’s skills.
But soon, he shook his head.
These were the core skills of his two Classes. He didn’t want to bet with them unless it was necessary.
Since that was the case, he focused on the three brand skills. After several seconds of thinking, he finally made his decision.
He ignored Fireball for the time being, feeling that it didn’t match the traits of the rest of them.
’Although the number of abilities is important, their quality and compatibility are even more so.’ Aurelius whispered inwardly.
Then, under his control, Dark Veil and Wind Blessing combined into a single point of light.
"Ding! Synthesis was successful!"
"You’ve acquired..."
