Chapter 7: Sub-Classes

A small window with a flickering cursor appeared below the two lines of text. As Aurelius instinctively moved his mind, letters began to appear, as though typed out by an invisible hand.

After a brief hesitation, he typed:

"Aurelius."

Seemingly sensing his thoughts, the window soon faded away.

New lines of text appeared.

"Welcome [Aurelius] to the Nova Roma Game’s Forum. Please be mindful of your words."

"All interpretation of the Forum’s contents remains in the hands of the Nova Roma Corporation."

At the same time, a familiar interface materialized in his vision.

Column after column, row after row, accompanied by a date and a username.

Other people of this world might not have recognized it, but having memories of his previous life, Aurelius immediately did.

His thoughts quickly matched the notifications’ reminder.

The interface in front of him was undoubtedly a forum!

More precisely, it was a gaming forum created for the release of the upcoming Nova Roma Game!

As soon as that idea surfaced in his mind, a bad premonition arose in Aurelius’ heart. He had a hunch about what was coming.

As he clicked on the top post, named "Announcement", that premonition was actually confirmed.

"Greetings to all Players of the Nova Roma Game." The first line read before continuing:

"In two weeks, the official beta test will commence. 500 Players will be selected to descend to the Nova Roma World."

Lots of information followed, packed into a dense body of text.

But the first two lines had already explained what Aurelius mostly wanted to know the most.

The world he was in was indeed a "game" like the Player Panel and everything else had previously claimed.

And, if the time between the two worlds flowed at the same rate, the first batch of Players would arrive two weeks later.

Aurelius’ expression turned solemn. This was the thing he least wanted to see.

After going through the announcement, he moved on to the post below it.

Although the forum had opened for only a couple of minutes, it had already received thousands of likes.

"Everyone, this post is strictly dedicated to the discussion of the waifus within the Nova Roma Game. Considering the forum’s rules, please keep your images SFW."

Aurelius felt speechless upon seeing this. However, he was also a gamer in his past life and knew the virtue of male gamers very well.

After going through the post and confirming that the contents were indeed as its title would suggest, Aurelius moved on to the third post.

This one piqued his interest.

Compared to the unseriousness of the previous one, this one had a far more interesting title.

"Guide to the Nova Roma World. A Brief Introduction and Some Guesses."

Seeing that the likes would sometimes jump up and sometimes decrease, Aurelius understood that it was controversial.

With some interest, he clicked on it.

"Greetings everyone, you may have known me as the top Player of Craftworld and the most popular guy on the internet."

"However, what most of you probably don’t know is that I’ve been studying the Nova Roma Game for the past half year."

"Piecing together all the clues left by the company, I was able to gain a rough understanding of the game."

"First of all, we have to talk about the world itself..."

The poster introduced some basic information regarding the regional forces, as well as about Awakeners and monsters.

For Aurelius, such information was practically useless as everything was already common knowledge.

But for the Players who didn’t know much about this world, such information was undoubtedly useful.

Unfortunately...

As he lowered his gaze, Aurelius discovered that the poster did not receive the reception he was wishing for.

Thousands of comments were mocking him for overestimating his abilities and claiming that everything he said was nonsense.

Some even went as far as to curse him, implying that he was trying to mislead other Players.

Aurelius smiled wryly.

Although this person’s guide was not very in-depth, most of his claims were actually true.

’Sure enough, some things never change. People enjoy flaming others the most,’ he thought inwardly.

After checking the name of the poster and engraving the username "World_Builder" in his mind, he continued wandering through the forum.

Unfortunately, his luck after this was not as good.

Most of the posts were either simple questions or about unrelated subjects, simply a waste of everyone’s time.

"A Guide on How to Seduce Catgirls", "Ranking the Top 10 Races (NSFW Edition)"...

Still, no matter how outlandish some of these posts might be, Aurelius was able to understand some things by sifting through them.

’It seems that the ’real world’ is not the Earth of my previous life. Although similar, there appear to be some major differences.’

’At least, making such a game with the technology of Earth is impossible.’

Aurelius referred to the other world as the "real world" for now. Not because he really believed that he had turned into an NPC, but simply out of convenience.

As he went through the messages, he felt his understanding of the "real world" deepen. The initial worry he had about the Players’ arrival slowly dispersed.

With a soft exhale, he prepared to close the forum.

But just then, a new post attracted his attention. It had just been uploaded and had yet to receive any likes.

Yet, the title was more than enough to attract his attention.

"Sub-Classes: A Cheat Toward The Top?"

With interest, Aurelius opened the post.

The familiar block of text appeared.

A brief introduction, followed by in-depth analysis like the first post. However, compared to World_Builder’s guide, which focused on the basic information of the Nova Roma World, this one had a more specialized subject.

Sub-Classes.

Or rather, one of them in particular—Alchemist.

"My brothers and sisters, I’ve spent several months conducting an in-depth analysis of the Alchemist Sub-Class."

"I’m sure many of you know it already, but for those who don’t, each Player can have a single main Class and two Sub-Classes."

"Most people focus on the main Classes and completely forget about Sub-Classes. This is where my analysis comes into play."

"Over the past few months, I’ve gone through hundreds of spreadsheets and conducted thousands of simulations."

"Not long ago, I arrived at a conclusion: compared to the main Classes, Sub-Classes are far more efficient to upgrade in the early game!"

"The one I’ve focused most on is the Alchemist Sub-Class!"

The poster quickly clarified their thoughts. According to them, the Alchemist Sub-Class was the best Sub-Class to choose due to the improvement in the relatively rare Intelligence Base Stat.

Similarly, its main skill was easy enough to upgrade without the need to spend Skill Points.

As he went through the post, Aurelius subconsciously raised his eyebrows.

He did the calculations in his mind.

He soon arrived at a conclusion:

If the information given by the poster was to be trusted, he was undoubtedly correct.

Aurelius originally had doubts about the authenticity of the information he based his analysis on.

But as he went through the comments and saw that the commenters were praising it highly—in contrast with the earlier post—he couldn’t help but believe it.

Out of curiosity, he took a peek at the poster’s name, TheoryMaster69, and remembered it.
