Chapter 47: New Skills & Talents — Chain Mission Rewards

Before checking anything else, Aurelius opened the notification log and scrolled back to the messages from his Rank 2 advancement.

Back in the underground chamber, he had no time to examine them closer, only managing to briefly skim through their contents.

Now, he could finally take a closer look.

And the moment he did, Aurelius discovered that the wait and the amount of Experience he had consumed had been absolutely worth it.

"Congratulations to the Player for upgrading to Rank 2—Taboo Arcanist."

"Gained: 10 Skill Points, Skills: Arcane Insight, Arcane Deconstruction, Talent: Knowledge Library."

Two Skills. One Talent.

These were the direct rewards for his advancement, besides the apparent ten Skill Points and Base Stat enhancements.

Although Aurelius was intrigued by their names and curious about their functions, he didn’t rush to summon their description.

Instead, he turned his attention to the Class itself.

Taboo Arcanist—this was the upgraded version of the Arcanist Class, similar to how a Rank 2 Dark Apostle evolved from a Rank 1 Blighted One.

Aurelius strongly suspected that the "Taboo" part of the name stemmed from the Advancement Ritual he had selected.

Had he completed any of the other two options, it was highly likely he would advance to another Class.

His suspicion was confirmed when the Class description unfolded before his eyes.

The description sounded ominous, particularly near the end.

The word "mark" seemed to suggest that possessing this Class would lead to certain side effects.

However, this made sense.

How could an ordinary human come into contact with a deity and possibly escape unscathed?

Perhaps the "mark" referred to the attention of the being whose Divinity the Taboo Arcanist had absorbed.

In Aurelius’ case, it was the Lost Sun.

Aurelius felt uneasy when he realized that he might have offended such a being.

But very quickly, he recovered from the shock.

’The Lost Sun is a crazy god. Even if I hadn’t offended Him, it’s not like He would spare my life given the chance.’

’As for His believers, they are all lunatics. It doesn’t matter whether I offended them.’

Realizing this, he shook his head.

After a few moments, Aurelius pushed those thoughts aside. His attention shifted toward the actual rewards.

Several descriptions emerged as his mind stirred.

First, the two skills, whose naming convention suggested the existence of a connection between them.

Compared to the skills he had obtained upon becoming an Awakener, the ones brought by his advancement were far more complicated and powerful.

Fortunately, Aurelius had never been dumb.

Combined with the description of the panel and the faint instinct engraved in his body, he quickly comprehended their function and effects.

Arcane Insight was a powerful analysis-based skill that allowed him to forcefully learn other skills without requiring a teacher or a Skill Book.

All he needed was to watch other people perform it and analyze it.

As for Arcane Deconstruction, it could help him nullify the skills he had learned as long as the enemy had a lower proficiency.

’For example, if an enemy casts a Fireball, but their Fireball happens to be at Level 2, I can activate Arcane Deconstruction to make their casting fail.’

Aurelius nodded in satisfaction.

He was quite happy with these skills. Both individually, as well as about the invisible synergy between them.

It was clear that these two skills were designed to complement each other.

Arcane Insight allowed him to learn more skills, while Arcane Deconstruction used those skills to provide him with actual combat prowess.

The cooperation between the two was perfect, creating a loop.

He quickly guessed the reason.

It was because it came from the Lost Sun and could thus not be upgraded like ordinary Talents.

Looking at its effects, Aurelius didn’t know how to feel. The description was simply too vague.

Although the words "Divine Evolution" hinted at something powerful, he was unable to judge this Talent’s effects without giving it a try.

Ultimately, he would have to test it further.

With his many Skill Points in hand, the chances of triggering this Talent were quite high.

But Aurelius did not rush to do so.

There was still one reward left. Perhaps the biggest one.

After his fight with the Priest and his interference with the Divine Descent Ceremony, Aurelius had completed the final two parts of this mission.

Judging by the first part, their rewards were bound to be extremely rich.

Sure enough, as soon as Aurelius’ eyes settled on the prompts, he found it increasingly difficult to remain calm.
