Chapter 12: Storage Space & Relics
"Ding!"
"The Player has killed his first Elite Monster..."
"Storage Space function has been activated!"
The moment he read those words, Aurelius noticed a new symbol appearing at the corner of his vision.
It was light blue, shaped like a chest, and once his vision focused on it, it broke down into several grids.
The notification, combined with his years of experience in gaming, let Aurelius quickly grasp its function.
His gaze focused on the burnt Rabbit King corpse in front of him. As his mind concentrated, a blue light enveloped it.
The corpse rapidly shrank.
Then, transforming into a stream of light, it merged with the grid at the corner of his vision.
Within moments, the Rabbit King was nowhere to be seen.
If it were not for the burnt marks and blood across the scene, no one would have ever guessed that the Rabbit King had ever been there.
As Aurelius looked at the grid, he discovered that a miniature image of the Rabbit King had appeared inside of it.
His mind moved once more.
Another light flashed.
The Rabbit King expanded and reappeared in reality, falling right on the ground in front of him!
Aurelius tried this function several times.
The more he familiarized himself with it, the more satisfied his smile became.
’I’ve never heard of anyone possessing space storage equipment in this world. I don’t know if it exists, but even if it does, it should be in the hands of the truly powerful Awakeners.’
’Even then, I doubt the equipment will be as simple and vast as the System’s storage.’
Fifty grids were floating at the edge of his vision.
Although Aurelius had yet to test their true limits, the fact that one of them could store the Rabbit King with ease meant that their space was certainly not small.
Altogether, the storage space provided was more than enough for the current him.
’This came just at the right time,’ he thought, as he collected the Rabbit King corpse for one final time.
Then he moved, collecting the dozens of Red Hare Rabbits he had slain before.
Shortly afterward, all of them had been contained within a single grid.
Aurelius nodded.
He shifted his focus to the other gain brought by this hunt: a large amount of Experience.
Perhaps because of the difference in their respective Level, or perhaps because it was an Elite Monster, the Experience he obtained was massive.
At least, it was more than enough to upgrade his Classes.
A trace of hesitation flickered across his eyes.
In the end, he decided to follow the route he had planned before coming to the forest and focusing on upgrading the Alchemist Sub-Class first.
As his EXP decreased, several notifications flashed.
[You’ve Leveled Up. Your Sub-Class has reached Level 2.]
[You’ve gained: INT +2, AGI +1]
[You’ve Leveled Up. Your Sub-Class has reached Level 3.]
[...Level 4.]
[...Level 5.]
[Ding!]
[Your Sub-Class has reached the current limit. If you wish to upgrade it further, please upgrade your Main Class to the required Level.]
In total, Aurelius got 8 INT and 4 Agility in exchange for 140 EXP.
Unfortunately, he could not upgrade it further despite having the required Experience.
The "Game" had obviously set a limit on how much Players could exploit Sub-Classes.
Although still overpowered, it prevented Players from ignoring their Main Class and focusing on their Sub-Class.
Even so, Aurelius felt it was absolutely worth it. In half the EXP it would take to upgrade Arcanist to Level 3, he had managed to reach Level 5 as an Alchemist.
’I should pay more attention to the forum in the future. Although most Players are...’ he recalled the waifu and NSFW posts, ’...useless, there are some talented people among them.’
Seeing that only a little more than 160 EXP was left, far from enough to upgrade the Arcanist Class, Aurelius wasted no more time.
He knew that the previous battle was likely to attract more monsters. Staying here was dangerous.
At the same time, although the Rabbit King’s sudden appearance had made him more cautious, it also strengthened his resolve to improve his own power.
At the moment, hunting Red Hare Rabbits and completing the Mission seemed to be the easiest and safest way to achieve this goal.
--
The most difficult aspect of hunting Red Hare Rabbits was not the process of killing them, but of locating them.
Fortunately, with the Rabbit Killer Title equipped, Aurelius faced no such issue.
He seemed like a born rabbit hunter.
With his strength increased and his combat prowess enhanced, hunting them down became even easier than before.
--
"Bang!"
An illusory projectile pierced through the skull of the last rabbit as its body collapsed to the ground.
Unknowingly, another pile of corpses had formed around Aurelius.
Just like before, he had no time to pay attention to it.
Last time, it was because of the Rabbit King’s sudden appearance.
This time, however, it was because of something else.
"Ding!"
"Mission—Rabbit Foe has been completed."
"Rewards are being administered..."
"...600 EXP. Relic Recipe: Red Hare Armor."
Perhaps because the storage space had appeared, the second reward materialized directly inside one of the grids.
Aurelius quickly retrieved it.
A white parchment landed in his hands, on which an armor-like structure was neatly painted.
It was made of crimson fur and tough rabbit skin, and, despite what its name would suggest, actually looked quite majestic.
It was the Relic Recipe promised as a mission reward.
Equivalent to the potions of Potion Refiners, they were weapons and treasures infused with extraordinary power and possessing all kinds of functions.
Usually, only Awakeners with Sub-Classes such as Weaponsmith, Craftsman, or special Main Classes could craft them.
Yet although Aurelius lacked one of these, he had something else: the Alchemist Sub-Class.
"Relic Recipe Detected!—Red Hare Armor."
"Requirements for crafting: STR: 14, INT: 16, Spirit (Mana): 180. Craftsmanship Sub-Class."
"Ding!"
"The Player meets the requirements! Do you wish to learn this recipe?"
Staring at this prompt, Aurelius said, "Yes" without hesitation.
The white parchment instantly dissolved into several streams of light, which transformed into information as soon as they touched him.
At the same time, the chime of a bell rang.
"Congratulations, you’ve learned: Red Hare Armor."
...
[Red Hare Armor (Common). Materials Required: 1x Red Hare Rabbit King, 30x Red Hare Rabbits]
...
The requirements were simple and straightforward, matching the materials Aurelius currently had in his possession.
Clearly, the mission rewards were not random but were tailored to their mission.
As he went through the information, Aurelius instinctively drew several items from the storage space, controlling them to lay in front of him.
He then sat beside them as the Transmutation’s description flashed in his mind.
Transmutation—With the recipe and the right materials, the Awakener is able to craft Relics and refine Potions.
Although this skill remained at Level 1, the Red Hare Armor was only a Common Relic.
Aurelius had some confidence in successfully crafting it.
Even if he failed, the losses would be minimal.
With that in mind, he showed little hesitation.
Spirit surged into his hands, and his palms began to glow.
His body moved instinctively, and he reached forward, grabbing a few of the Red Hare Rabbits.
Almost instantly, the corpses began to melt under the golden light.
