Chapter 267: Chapter 267: He is Her Favorite Man_1
The hospital room was quiet. They hadn’t shared more than ten sentences since their separation seven years ago. Now, they didn’t have a clue what to say to each other.
In silence, the two of them had lost themselves in their thoughts, not exchanging a single word for an entire hour.
But Gu Yan did not try to send her away.
Ye Lu could no longer bear this atmosphere.
"When did our conversations become such an uphill climb?" Ye Lu thought back with a bitter smile. Their old dynamic used to be much more amusing.
"I was like a chirpy bird back then, and you once called me a chatterbox, claiming I would wake the dead with my incessant talking. You were always the quiet one, detesting all the noise, and I would drive you up the wall."
Gu Yan’s eyes shifted, recalling how he used to seclude himself in his study all day, spending hours staring at the empty room, never uttering a word.
He disliked any noise, so even the household staff would tread carefully, keeping their footsteps soft. The entire mansion was a quiet place, as silent as a tomb.
But when she came, she was like a loudspeaker that wouldn’t turn off, completely altering it all.
She pulled him out of his grave.
"You were so annoyed with me at first, even threatened to kick me out. I wasn’t scared though, I knew you were just a paper tiger, I was sure I could break through your defenses," Ye Lu laughed softly.
Gu Yan looked down. The truth was, he didn’t dislike her.
He had never met someone as vivacious and cheerful as her. She forcefully infiltrated his solitary world, leaving him disoriented, frightened that all his fronts would crumble. He wanted to protect himself, so he pretended to despise her, to threaten her, to keep her at a distance.
But she was thick-skinned, clung to him and didn’t let go.
"Eventually, all you did was glare at me helplessly. Later, you were too drained to care. Gradually, you began to respond to me, and that made me so happy - I had cracked open your shell. Finally, our conversations grew longer," she continued.
Even now, she was proud of the transformation in the gloomy youth, who she equated to a mushroom cloud. She had managed to bring forth his jovial nature.
"..." A hint of amusement flashed through Gu Yan’s downcast eyes, unbeknownst to even him.
Indeed, he was at his wits’ end with her. No matter how much he glared or told her to shut up, even stuffing his ears didn’t drown out her everlasting chattering.
She was like the sun. No matter where he hid, she would shine her light on him. At first, the brightness might have blinded him, leaving him clueless and even annoyed. But in time, he began to feel the warmth of the sun, and fell in love with that sensation.
He had distanced himself from the human world for far too long; it was her that dragged him back, turning him back into a regular person.
His favorite sight was her laughter, her ceaseless narrative of interesting things.
"To this day, I still believe that this was the best period of my life," Ye Lu reflected with a rueful smile, her eyes pleading, "Even if we didn’t have a chance to... Maybe I don’t have the right to say this now, but I really hope that, as a friend, I could care about you, check up on you, okay?"
She stared at him persistently, not wanting anything else, just worried about his health.
She had worked so hard to pull him out of the dark once, she wanted him to live a healthy and happy life, instead of being so sickly. Even if she couldn’t find happiness, she wanted him to find real happiness.
Because he was the man she loved the most!
