Chapter 1442: Chapter 1442: Fruit of Happiness

"Being able to share your pain with you, it’s great." He kissed the corner of her eye with a smile, his resolve firm—if she showed any complications, no matter whether she agreed or not, he’d insist on a cesarean section for her.

After that, Ye Lu continued to endure the pain for a long time. Her condition was indeed extraordinary; several times, Third Young Master Jun wanted to intervene, but she adamantly refused, leaving his heart feeling like it hung by a thread. Eventually, she made it through to that pivotal moment.

Third Young Master Jun had never imagined the agony of childbirth to be so excruciating. Watching her endure what felt like life and death—drenched in sweat, her pale face contorting as she followed the doctor’s guidance to push repeatedly—his heart raced with fear and overflowed with pain.

Clad in sterile attire, he stayed by her side in the delivery room. Sitting by the head of her bed, he held her hand tightly and gazed deeply into her eyes, accompanying her through this torment, experiencing it with her.

Finally, the sound of a newborn’s cry filled the room.

Third Young Master Jun, who had been tense all the while, dropped to his knees. He immediately embraced Ye Lu, who lay on the bed, drained and weak, cradling her head in his arms, pressing his chin firmly against the crown of her head.

Feeling his embrace, Ye Lu noticed the uncontrollable tremors coursing through his body, his grasp so intense.

"What’s wrong? You’ve become a dad again, aren’t you happy?" She asked weakly, her voice muffled.

Third Young Master Jun remained silent.

Ye Lu thought to herself—usually, at moments like this, wouldn’t men be wildly ecstatic, fumbling to hold the baby, grinning like fools? That’s the kind of joy fitting for a father.

But she sensed he wasn’t happy.

She felt disappointed; she endured so much to give him two children, yet he didn’t show the slightest delight.

She was feeling upset when suddenly, she felt warm, wet tears rolling down the side of her face, trickling along her cheek and into her neck.

Startled, she sensed his embrace growing even tighter, as if afraid she might vanish at any moment.

He was crying. Though soundless, she could tell—those tears were shed for her.

She tried to lift her head to look at him but lacked the strength to move. And in that instant, all her resentment dissolved. Instead, her heart swelled with deep compassion. Only then did she realize that his seeming calm and composed demeanor earlier—cheering her on, encouraging her—was just a facade. Inside, he had been consumed by fear.

These tears, so scalding, carried too much emotion within them. These tears were shed solely and entirely for her.

Her heart filled with warmth, and she felt that all the pain she endured had been worth it.

"Hey, I’m fine now. See, everything’s okay." She stretched out her weak hand to hold his, her voice gentle and comforting.

Third Young Master Jun turned his hand to intertwine their fingers tightly, his voice still trembling: "There were so many moments just now when I thought... I kept thinking that what happened was because I forced you to get pregnant. From now on, let’s not have any more children, we won’t."

Watching her in such pain, yet being powerless to do anything, standing helplessly by—it was almost enough to drive him mad.

And remembering how, more than seven years ago, he wasn’t by her side, leaving her to endure and give birth to Yuanyuan and Yiyi alone in pain—his heart felt like it was being sliced by a thousand blades.

This time’s suffering was, once again, imposed upon her by him. Forcing her to conceive, forcing her to endure such pain.

"Fool..." Ye Lu said, half annoyed, half amused. "Even if I wasn’t willing at first, I ultimately accepted it willingly. Don’t talk as if you’re to blame. If you keep thinking like this, I’ll stop paying you any mind."

Third Young Master Jun offered a bitter smile, knowing she was trying to comfort him. She always forgave him so easily.

Sometimes, he couldn’t even forgive himself.

"Besides, these are your children. I’ve been eagerly awaiting their arrival, because they truly belong to both of us." Ye Lu couldn’t help but smile happily, her eyes brimming with tears.

With Yuanyuan and Yiyi, from pregnancy to birth to growing up, he’d never been a part of it.
