Chapter 1434: Chapter 1434: The Pain of Childbirth
If anyone saw her in this condition, they might guess she was having a premature birth. Her plan would then be difficult to carry out. She couldn’t let anyone find out.
Clenching her teeth, she controlled herself to hide any sign of pain. Acting as if everything was normal, her face showed indifference as she forced herself to walk slowly out.
Dr. K watched her endure the pain while insisting on doing this. He felt helpless but understood the danger of her situation, so he, too, pretended not to notice anything.
Once she got into the car and the door closed, Ye Lu collapsed into the seat.
Her breathing was rapid. She clutched her stomach with both hands, her face filled with agony.
"Drive quickly," Dr. K ordered the driver.
The car sped off. Ye Lu turned her head, staring blankly out the window as the sight of the café disappeared. Her heart ached.
He didn’t come. She waited for him, but he still didn’t come.
Finally, a silent tear slid down the corner of her eye.
...
In the dead of night, inside the secret hospital, in a hidden ward, the faint cries of a woman echoed. Weak and intermittent, her voice gradually faded—from clarity to hoarseness. After hours of screaming, even the strongest woman would be exhausted.
Ye Lu knew all too well the pain of childbirth.
She had given birth to Yuanyuan and Yiyi before, and she understood firsthand the torment of labor, especially with twins.
When giving birth to those two little ones, she’d endured ten hours of contractions—ten hours of agony—until her cervix had dilated enough. Then she entered the delivery room, where it took over two more hours to finally give birth.
The kind of pain that no woman could ever forget.
She thought she had accumulated enough experience, that her second delivery would be easier.
But she didn’t expect this time to be even harder than the last.
Perhaps it was because she had defied the natural process of childbirth, and now the heavens were punishing her, letting her suffer torment in return.
The contractions came wave after wave. At first, they were spaced farther apart, but now they were growing closer together, each one more excruciating than the last.
Lying on the hospital bed, Ye Lu’s forehead was drenched in sweat, her hair soaked and sticking to the pillow. Her face was pale, and her lips bore the deep imprint of her teeth from biting too hard.
Her hand spasmed as she gripped the bed railing tightly, the veins bulging on the back of her fair hand, twisting from the strain.
She lay there, panting and catching her breath as the contractions eased slightly, leaving her body limp and weak against the bed.
The door opened. Dr. K walked in with a female doctor.
The machinery kept monitoring the changes in her vital signs, but the doctor still came in from time to time to check on her condition.
Struggling, Ye Lu turned her head slightly, her eyes hazy. Her pale face, dripping with sweat, immediately revealed the immense suffering she was enduring.
The female doctor quickly lifted the quilt to examine her. Afterward, she shook her head at Dr. K, indicating that the cervix hadn’t dilated enough yet. She still couldn’t deliver.
Ye Lu couldn’t hide the disappointment that flashed across her face. Her pallid lips moved weakly, her voice feeble: "How much longer... do I have to wait?"
"It’s hard to say. At the least, a few hours. At most... half a day or a day," Dr. K responded. Though he didn’t want to discourage her, she needed to be prepared—especially for... "Are you sure you don’t want a cesarean?"
With her condition and the extent of her suffering, he had persistently recommended a cesarean delivery. It was safer and much less painful.
But Ye Lu had said cesareans took too long to recover. She’d have to lie in bed waiting for the wound to heal, and that kind of extended downtime wasn’t something she could afford.
He had no idea what she was planning in secret, but he could guess that this reckless push for natural labor likely involved a very dangerous scheme.
"Didn’t you say... that inducing labor could still lead to a natural birth?" Ye Lu asked.
"It can. But overall, it’s riskier."
"Ha, I trust your skills," she replied.
