Chapter 1432: Chapter 1432: No Regrets
Ye Lu continued to turn her head and look out the window, but the bright eyes that once brimmed with anticipation now seemed increasingly dim as she watched car after car speed mercilessly by, none stopping.
He’s really not coming?
Not even to see her this one last time?
Another hour passed quickly, and this corner still had only her, sitting alone with a cup of milk tea in her hands. The golden, beautiful sunlight outside shone on her pale profile, like delicate fragments of sorrow that stained her brows and lips.
Dr. K glanced up at her, originally intending to go over and say, "It’s been three hours already. If he was going to come, he’d have come by now. There’s no point in waiting anymore. If he isn’t coming, waiting won’t make a difference."
But seeing Ye Lu’s distracted gaze fixed on the road outside the window, her motionless posture, her quiet and steadfast waiting—without complaint or anger—
He suddenly felt his indignation dissipate. Silently, he continued to watch her. Even after three hours of bitter waiting, deep in her heart she still believed that he would come—or perhaps she stubbornly just wanted to see Third Young Master Jun one last time.
Faced with this unwavering and selfless patience, what right did he have to interfere?
The sunlight changed from gold to blood-red, and the rays that scattered over the table were slowly replaced by the soft glow of evening lights. Night fell quietly, and time flowed on in solitude.
Yet the seat opposite Ye Lu remained empty; the person she was waiting for never appeared.
"Eat something. You’ve waited the whole afternoon—you must be hungry by now," Dr. K said, looking at her with pity. He signaled for a waiter and ordered some food for her.
"Alright," Ye Lu replied, her raspy voice sounding faint and weak.
She didn’t feel hungry at all. In fact, she thought the time had passed rather quickly; while she had been lost in her daze, it had already become evening.
Looking at the myriad lights outside the window, she felt as if she were in another world.
"He really hasn’t come, has he?" Dr. K, staring at her desolate expression, struggled to find words to comfort her.
He knew how significant this meeting was to her. She had dressed up so carefully, looked forward to it so earnestly, and waited all this time—only for it to end in emptiness. This kind of disappointment was even harder to bear than knowing from the beginning that Third Young Master Jun wouldn’t come.
Ye Lu, however, spoke softly, "Maybe he’s busy with something important."
Dr. K felt a surge of irritation. Knowing full well that he hadn’t intended to come, why was she still making excuses for Third Young Master Jun? Could she fool anyone—including herself—with those words?
"Let me ask you—did you and he truly agree to meet here?"
"Yes."
"You didn’t get the location wrong?"
"No."
"You didn’t mess up the time?"
"No."
Dr. K’s voice turned cold: "Did he promise you he would come?"
Ye Lu’s face turned pale, like a delicate flower frozen by ice; suddenly, it lost all vibrancy. Her fingers fumbled to grasp her cup, released it, then gripped it again tightly.
After a long silence, she rasped out in a brittle voice:
"No."
Dr. K was both angry and at a loss for words. Seeing how happily she had headed out earlier, he’d really assumed they had made arrangements together.
But now it turned out that Third Young Master Jun had never given any such promise. She had rushed over by herself and wasted an afternoon on false hope.
It was clear that Third Young Master Jun was never going to come.
"Let’s go—it’s pointless to waste more time!" Dr. K, with zero patience for waiting on someone who clearly wouldn’t appear, grabbed Ye Lu’s coat to urge her to stand and leave.
Ye Lu, however, bit her lip and remained seated, completely still.
"He won’t come," Dr. K said angrily.
"He’ll come... I told him I’d wait for him here, and he will come," Ye Lu replied, her voice tinged with quiet determination.
