Chapter 1419: Chapter 1419: Choose One of the Two
Ye Lu forced a bitter smile and shrugged. "I don’t want to leave either, but with a fire already underfoot, I have no choice."
Dr. K looked down at her stomach. "Overworking like this is very dangerous. I’ve already given you an injection, but if you keep rushing around like this, any accident could be life-threatening."
"I don’t want this, but I must go," Ye Lu said firmly.
...
Half an hour later, she was escorted to the corporation by her driver and bodyguards.
There were many media outlets surrounding the corporation, but Ye Lu and her entourage entered through a special entrance, avoiding any commotion.
She didn’t meet with the high-ranking executives but went straight to Huffman’s office.
When Huffman saw her, he spoke immediately. "I heard from Tang Sen that the news about your husband Jun Huang’s drug abuse is true."
"Yes."
"What are your plans, then? Clearly, the media won’t let this go. If they keep digging and keep exposing more evidence, it’ll only bring you greater troubles."
Ye Lu answered bitterly, "I haven’t thought of a perfect solution yet, but I will figure something out to minimize the impact on the corporation as much as possible."
Huffman, being a seasoned veteran, cut straight to the point. "No, you will never come up with a perfect solution for this. Drug abuse is a concrete fact, and with his brother’s testimony, damage to the corporation’s and your reputation is unavoidable. The only viable solution now is to mitigate the effects to the greatest extent."
Ye Lu understood this clearly. She was just trying to buy herself some time, clinging to the hope of a miracle.
"Mr. Huffman, you are a man of experience. Could you give me some advice?"
Huffman thought for a moment. His eyes clouded with a tinge of gloom, yet still sharp and unyielding.
"Ye Lu, I sympathize with your situation. But from my standpoint, I must prioritize the corporation’s interests. That’s why I—and the shareholders—cannot accept the stain this incident is bringing to the corporation. I have a suggestion: divorce your husband Jun Huang. That way, even if people aim to discredit you, you can preserve your own standing. This is your best course of action."
Ye Lu’s face froze. She stared at him in shock, looking at the unwavering seriousness in his expression, and she instantly stiffened.
She had never considered such a solution, nor would she ever entertain it.
"No... It’s impossible." Her lips turned pale.
Huffman’s demeanor grew stern. "I understand your reluctance, but right now, you don’t have a better option. Otherwise, the shareholders will use this against you, the investors will voice their discontent, and the larger this uproar gets, the bigger your problems will be. It will shake your position."
Ye Lu was acutely aware of the dangers, but asking her to divorce Third Young Master Jun—how could that be possible? How could they divorce? It was unthinkable.
"No, I won’t divorce him. Isn’t there another way besides divorce?" She looked at Huffman with hope.
Huffman sighed. "There is one other way."
"What is it?"
"Relinquish the corporation’s management rights. You represent the corporation now, and if you cannot resolve this issue, you will become its tarnished legacy. If you step down, the scandal’s damage will lessen."
Ye Lu’s face grew even paler. She collapsed into the chair, her fingertips going cold as if her very blood had frozen.
All the effort she had poured in to achieve what she had today—now it could all disappear in an instant, her struggle reduced to nothing.
"Ye Lu, the choices before you are clear. You must choose one."
