Chapter 1418: Chapter 1418: A Pressing Crisis

"Ye Lu, there’s something very bad happening. I have some friends in major media outlets. I tried to use my connections to get them to stop reporting on this matter, but they told me that the story isn’t baseless; they have solid evidence."

"How is that possible?" Ye Lu was shocked. How could those media outlets know about this secret, let alone have evidence? It was utterly impossible.

"I’ve heard," Hua Lunxi paused and looked at her with pity, "the mastermind behind this is Gu Yan, Jun Huang’s brother. He’s the one who leaked this to the media."

Ye Lu felt a cold sensation creeping over her body. She gasped sharply and leaned back against the sofa, completely stunned.

If it were someone else, there might still be a chance to fight back. But Gu Yan was Jun Huang’s biological brother. If he exposed the matter, the public would undoubtedly believe it, regardless of whether it was true or not. After all, it came from family—how much more credible could it be?

What’s even more exasperating is that the matter itself happens to be true. Jun Huang’s weaknesses must have fallen into Gu Yan’s hands, which is why he dared to leak such information so brazenly.

Her heart felt cold, as if it had frozen solid.

Gu Yan was indeed cruel. After harming them repeatedly, it still wasn’t enough for him. Now, he wanted to exploit this to ruin Jun Huang’s reputation completely. Even if there had been a colossal grudge seven years ago, hadn’t all those previous acts of revenge sufficed?

How could there exist such a ruthless person, truly intent on driving her and Jun Huang to their deaths?

Ye Lu had never hated someone this much before.

"I’m currently trying to get in touch with him, trying to figure out his goal, see if we can negotiate—pay him money or agree to some sort of exchange terms," Hua Lunxi held her icy hand, hoping she’d muster the strength to carry on. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Ye Lu forced a bitter smile. "It’s useless. He doesn’t actually want anything. He simply wants me and Jun Huang utterly disgraced, wants us to pay an unbearable price."

Hua Lunxi frowned. If that was indeed the case, then it was going to be troublesome. If Gu Yan truly wanted to stir up a massive scandal around this matter, the first person to bear the brunt of the trouble would undeniably be Ye Lu.

After all, the couple’s reputations were intertwined. Her name would be dragged into association with having a husband involved in substance abuse.

What would the corporate shareholders and higher-ups think about it? What would the stockholders think?

As expected, the very next day, Hua Lunxi’s concerns were proven right. Many senior executives from the group demanded that Ye Lu give a response—what was going on exactly? And on top of that, the Hua Clan’s stock price took a hit and started to decline.

Ye Lu coldly stared at the Hua Clan’s stock market graph, listening to the persistent incoming calls, her entire being as immovable as a stone sculpture.

She was exhausted. She didn’t want to deal with anything anymore.

All she wanted was to close her eyes and sleep quietly for a while.

Because even she didn’t know how to resolve this mess. Amid the incessant turbulence, she felt as though all her strength had been completely drained, her spirit on the verge of collapse.

However, she was acutely aware that she couldn’t fall, couldn’t even afford a moment of recklessness.

Because there was no escape route for her. Right now, she could only rely on herself.

So many problems, so many matters awaited her resolution.

Another call came in; this time, it was Huffman. This was a call she couldn’t evade. A few minutes later, after putting the phone down, she begrudgingly got out of bed, tidied herself up, and prepared to go to the group.

She had to give Huffman face. His support was absolutely crucial in maintaining her position within the group at this moment.

Moreover, someone as shrewd as him might even provide her with some constructive decision-making strategies.

"I believe I’ve told you not to leave this place in these few days," Dr. K appeared at the door of her room, looking visibly disapproving.

Ye Lu forced a bitter smile and shrugged. "I don’t want to leave either, but the fire’s already at my eyebrows—I have no choice."
