Chapter 1414: Chapter 1414: Have You Gone Mad?

Hua Lunxi thought about it and felt the same. He actually thought she’d been acting strangely lately and worried that she might do something drastic. But now that she was pregnant, she would surely think twice before risking her life. This reassured him somewhat.

Ye Lu then said, "I’m going to see Dr. K and ask him to help me recuperate and prepare for delivery. That should ease your worries, right?"

Hua Lunxi indeed felt much more at ease. Dr. K was a star in the medical field, and with him taking care of Ye Lu, it was certainly reassuring.

After Hua Lunxi left,

Ye Lu asked to be escorted to Dr. K’s research institute.

"You’re here for him—to ask me to continue saving him? But he’s not here, and I can’t analyze many aspects of his physiological condition. I only have the blood samples and Professor Slonan’s data, both of which are extremely limited. The success rate was low to begin with; now it’s practically left to fate."

Dr. K looked at her seriously.

"I still advise you to figure out a way to convince him to come back."

Ye Lu sneered, "Do you think a man like him, once he’s made up his mind, would listen to me? I’ve cried, I’ve begged, and none of it moved him. Even if I collapse, I doubt it’ll make him turn back."

Dr. K remained silent.

"Then why did you come..."

"I didn’t come for him. I came for myself. I need you to help me with something," Ye Lu said, her expression indifferent, but her gaze was eerie enough to send chills down one’s spine. "Lately, I’ve been feeling slight uterine contractions. As a doctor, you probably understand what’s going on better than I do."

Dr. K’s face changed slightly. He furrowed his brow and then got up.

"Let me run some tests to confirm."

After a long while, Dr. K returned with a stack of detailed examination reports. His expression was far from optimistic. After a moment of silence, he spoke.

"There are signs of premature labor, and the situation isn’t very good. You’ve been under too much stress lately, your emotions are unstable, and you’ve been working hard—all factors contributing to this."

Ye Lu had indeed been working constantly. Though exhausted, she hadn’t experienced any major issues before. This time, the symptoms were likely caused by her intense emotional fluctuations—the extremes of joy and sorrow—that weighed heavily on her mind, causing her physical condition to decline rapidly.

"As I expected," Ye Lu said. She didn’t seem particularly surprised by the news, as she had already given birth before and knew a thing or two about this.

Upon hearing the unfavorable prognosis, she appeared neither panicked nor frightened. Her eyes simply flashed with a trace of sorrow. She lowered her head and gently stroked her belly, feeling the pulse of the two small lives within. Her heart ached.

She had let these two children down. She’d dragged them through her chaos and hardships from the very first day they existed inside her. Their journey had been fraught with tribulations, never a day of peace, yet they’d endured until now. They were her strongest, most beloved children, and she hadn’t been a responsible mother.

And now, she was about to do something even more unforgivable to them.

May the heavens watch over her children!

Her heart clenched tightly into a ball, her fingernails dug into her palm, the pain leaving her numb—yet also unshakably resolute.

"Dr. K, the thing I need you to help me with is..."

Her voice, calm to the point of cruelty, drifted through the air—so ethereal, it shocked and distressed those who heard it, stirring an unstoppable aching sympathy.

"You really want to go through with this? Are you insane?" Even someone like Dr. K, who typically stayed detached, couldn’t help but erupt in anger.

"Yes, I’m insane." Ye Lu burst into laughter, tears streaming down as she laughed—a laugh full of desolation and sorrow. "At this point, what choice do I have except to see who can be more insane? There’s no longer any other option left to me."
