Chapter 1407: Chapter 1407: No Reservations
Third Young Master Jun saw her face, his expression changed drastically, revealing shock and anger. He hurriedly stepped forward to support her body.
"What are you doing? Dragging that big belly and running so fast—it’s dangerous. What if you fall? When will you learn to take care of yourself?" He angrily gripped her shoulders, his eyes filled with fury, truly upset. She was pregnant but still so reckless—it left him completely uneasy.
Ye Lu shoved him away hard, her fiery eyes glaring at him with hatred: "Do you even care about me? If I fell, would you feel heartache? If something happened to me, would you even care?"
"What are you talking about?"
"If I hadn’t rushed over, were you planning to leave just like that? Abandoning me again—you bastard!" Ye Lu was both heartbroken and furious, pounding his shoulder with her fists. "Thankfully, Dr. K called me; otherwise, I would have arrived only to find an empty room, with you nowhere to be found. Do you even know what kind of feeling that is?"
She hated this kind of worry, the fear of not seeing him, the constant sense of loss, the inability to hold onto him.
Third Young Master Jun grabbed her hands, restraining her agitation and chaos, fearing her emotions might harm herself.
He felt a headache coming on; truly, Dr. K was a master at stirring up trouble.
He led her into the hospital room, gently pressed her into the sofa, then knelt before her, soothing her emotions.
"Lu’er, I thought you wouldn’t want to see me."
"What are you talking about?"
Third Young Master Jun gave a bitter smile, his lips curling into a faintly sarcastic smirk. He reached out to touch her pale side profile: "Have you forgotten? The last time we met, what happened?"
Ye Lu’s face turned ashen in an instant, her wide eyes staring at him blankly, her heart trembling violently.
How could she forget? Despite her efforts over this time to not think about it, it lingered like a sharp dagger piercing her heart—each recollection bringing unbearable pain.
Family or love, unable to have both.
"See, you still can’t accept it," Third Young Master Jun caressed her trembling face. "It’s my fault—I hurt your father. If you hate me in your heart, it’s only natural. Your father’s killer is right in front of you. Can you truly forget your father’s death and live blissfully with a man like this, free of guilt?"
Ye Lu’s lips quivered as she shut her eyes in anguish.
"People like us—do we even have the right to be together? The insurmountable chasm between us, and you, you’re someone with principles and boundaries, not the type of woman who would forsake her dignity and become madly infatuated to the point of ignoring her father’s killer for the sake of love."
Third Young Master Jun spoke calmly and rationally, his words stark and brutal, slashing Ye Lu’s heart repeatedly.
Her heart bled. She thought, after everything they had endured—all the pain and hardship—their paths would surely come together in the end.
But as it turned out, fate was laughable.
Watching her suffer so deeply, Third Young Master Jun also felt unbearable pain. But once he decided something, he would carry it through no matter what, even if it meant being ruthless toward her.
"So, there’s no need to think about it anymore. We should separate—this is the destiny we’re meant to follow."
Destiny? Ye Lu froze, lifting her head to stare at him blankly.
Destiny again, always destiny.
She loathed that word. Every time she believed she could rewrite the outcome, destiny would strike her down once more.
Why did it have to treat her this way, letting her glimpse hope only for it to turn into despair in the blink of an eye?
It was as though she fell from the clouds, shattered into pieces upon impact.
