Chapter 417: Chapter 241: On Red Thunder Star (2)
Teng Liang and Bu Siqi were among them.
"Can you tell anything from their tone?" Xia Hanshi asked casually, though his expression was solemn. "Is Su Chen alright?"
Chong Jingtian glanced at him. ’This old fellow might look unconcerned, but he’s more worried about Su Chen than anyone else.’
He shook his head. "The liaisons from both sides were the ones communicating. I only responded after I received the message myself, so I didn’t get any useful information."
"But he should have reached the Sect safely."
"Don’t worry," Shi Yunzhou chimed in. "That kid Su Chen is a crafty one. He’ll definitely land on his feet. As his teacher, you should know that better than anyone."
"He’s not in Ying Feng anymore, dealing with a bunch of us old invalids. Being crafty isn’t enough," Xia Hanshi retorted with a sidelong glance.
He had never been particularly fond of the elders, and now that Su Chen had left with Qing Cang, he cared even less, speaking without the slightest bit of courtesy.
’This old bastard...’ Shi Yunzhou’s expression froze. He cursed inwardly and forced an awkward smile.
Before long, Chong Jingtian’s expression tensed. Everyone followed his gaze and looked up at the sky, where a streak of light had just appeared on the horizon.
A roar grew louder as it drew closer, the accompanying shockwave tearing through the heavens.
BOOM!
As it arrived, a heavy transport ship thundered to a halt, hovering before the crowd. A blast of air washed over them, whipping their clothes and hair into a frenzy.
They all squinted, looking up at four giant, luminescent blue anti-gravity rings. As the transport ship gradually descended, they felt the ground tremble slightly.
HISS—The bay door opened and a ramp extended. A squad of fully-armed guards in bronze armor emerged.
Leading them was a middle-aged man with an apathetic expression.
Watching the man approach, the group couldn’t help but grow tense.
They needed many things from the Bronze Sect, including High-tier Body Refining Techniques, High-tier Professions, and simpler methods for isolating the Nether Fog—all things Red Thunder Star lacked.
There was a lot of room for maneuver with these supplies. If something had happened to Su Chen—if he had perished en route and failed to reach the Sect safely—then the Bronze Sect’s support would surely be drastically reduced. After all, they would have lost the only person who could speak up for them.
The guards came to a halt. The Guard Captain’s brow was furrowed as his gaze swept over the group before landing on Xia Hanshi, his expression flickering slightly.
Before Chong Jingtian could speak, the captain had already asked, "You must be Xia Hanshi."
The hearts of Chong Jingtian and the others skipped a beat. Xia Hanshi’s expression turned grim as he nodded. "That’s right. I am."
After confirming his target, the cold-faced captain suddenly cracked a stiff, awkward smile. "When I set out, Su Xingzhong specifically instructed me to pass on his greetings to you."
Chong Jingtian’s eye twitched, and a wave of relief washed over him. ’It’s all good.’
Moreover, he could discern a clear respect for Su Chen in the captain’s tone.
The fact that the captain had mentioned Su Chen first, rather than Qing Cang or anyone else, was enough to show that this respect didn’t stem from Qing Cang’s influence or the patronage of another. It was directed at Su Chen himself.
The thought that surfaced in his mind astonished Chong Jingtian. ’Considering their travel time, they must have set out almost immediately after Su Chen and the others arrived at the Sect.’
’Could it be? Did Su Chen manage to land on his feet the moment he arrived at the Sect?’
"You’re too kind." Xia Hanshi also breathed a sigh of relief and cut right to the chase. "How is he? How is Su Chen?"
"Su Xingzhong is truly worthy of being the one chosen by the Morning Star Tier, to have caught the eye of the Ancient King. The moment he arrived at the Sect, he was acknowledged by the Ancient King Stele. What’s more, despite being only Tier Four, he has claimed the top rank among the Tier Five on the Holy List."
The captain’s voice was filled with deep emotion as he spoke.
None of them knew what the Ancient King Stele was, but they could all guess the significance of a Tier Four taking the top spot among Tier Fives.
Standing behind the group, Zhou Yanwu’s expression faltered.
"To think..." Chong Jingtian’s best-case scenario had been that Su Chen would manage to find a foothold under Qing Cang’s protection. He had never imagined the kid would be this formidable.
’This is a true hidden dragon soaring to the heavens. Ying Feng really was too small for him. In that case...’ Chong Jingtian’s eyes gleamed.
"Oh, right," the Guard Captain volunteered. "We’ve brought five types each of Tier Six, Tier Seven, and Tier Eight Body Refining Techniques, as well as five Tier Seven Advanced Professions, one Top-tier Profession, and three Tier Eight Advanced Professions."
"There are also some technical files, including methods to better insulate against the Nether Fog, raw materials for creating Foggy Robes, and Netherworld Stones, which will allow you to communicate with the Sect through the Nether Fog."
This heavy transport ship was carrying a great deal. Not all of it was due to Su Chen’s influence; support for Red Thunder Star was meant to include these items from the start.
However, Su Chen’s status ensured there would be no shortages, and likely meant they would receive even more than planned.
Overjoyed, Chong Jingtian quickly said, "You’ve all had a long journey. Please, this way..."
"No, thank you." The Guard Captain waved him off. "We have to keep moving, so we won’t delay any longer. Where are the students you’re sending back with us?"
He knew, of course, that if he followed them into the city, he would be subjected to a round of hospitality and likely have some "benefits" pressed upon him.
But this place was far from ordinary. For one thing, it was located deep within the Nether Fog, and he had no desire to linger.
For another, accepting such benefits here would be asking for trouble.
It was better to keep things strictly professional.
’He won’t even accept a gift...’ Chong Jingtian was increasingly surprised, but he reacted quickly, pointing. "Just those few."
"These few?" The Guard Captain looked over at the twelve individuals, his expression odd. "They’re students?"
Teng Liang, one of the people indicated, felt his face twitch. Bu Siqi lowered his head, embarrassed.
"They’re just a bit... developed for their age," Chong Jingtian said with a chuckle.
He had prepared two plans. If Su Chen was struggling within the Sect, then he would simply follow official procedures.
He would follow the Bronze Sect’s process, send over a few candidates with passable potential, and that would be that. It wouldn’t be much help to Su Chen.
But now that Su Chen’s status was extraordinary, it was time to change the plan. He had to send, at the very least, a few people who were sufficiently obedient.
Aside from Teng Liang and Bu Siqi, the rest had been hand-picked by him. Their records were flawless. They had proven themselves intelligent and level-headed in battle against the Deceitful God’s Followers... and their parents were still alive, giving them ties to home.
’These are definitely not students...’ The Guardian knew this perfectly well, but he didn’t say anything more, simply nodding. "Then come with us."
Chong Jingtian had long been prepared for this day. Teng Liang and the others merely exchanged a look with Xia Hanshi before boarding the ship.
The handover was completed quickly. Just before leaving, the Guard Captain looked at Xia Hanshi hesitantly and asked, "Would you perhaps like to come with us?"
Xia Hanshi refused. "No. There are still matters on this planet left to handle. I’m in no hurry."
The group came and went in a flash. The heavy transport ship spewed forth incandescent flames and ascended back into the heavens.
"Did you give it to them?" Xia Hanshi asked, his gaze fixed on the sky as he sent out a mental message.
"Yes. Pretty much all the spoils from clearing out the Deceitful God lairs over the past six months are on Teng Liang," Chong Jingtian replied telepathically, then added with hesitation, "Are you sure it’s okay to send all that Deceitful God’s Power?"
"He will need it," Xia Hanshi stated simply.
"Old Xia, oh, Old Xia, you really hit the jackpot," Shi Yunzhou said from the side, his eyes filled with envy.
A complex mix of emotions churned within Zhou Yanwu, dominated by a faint sense of regret. ’If only I had known. I should have made sure to build a good relationship with Su Chen.’
Chong Jingtian was in high spirits. Hearing this, the corner of his mouth twitched. Yuan Poshan had already transferred Yuan Chenyang from Southwind to Ying Feng. The rumor was that the boy got a scolding every three days and a beating every five.
He guessed that once today’s news reached them, it would become a beating every three days.
"Haha." The thought made him laugh out loud, earning him a number of strange looks.
"Ahem, ahem." Chong Jingtian cleared his throat and waved his hand. "Let’s go. There are still a few Deceitful God lairs to deal with."
...
Atop Copper Heart, Su Chen docked his Flying Device at a port and disembarked. The main thoroughfare was bustling, with people coming and going in an endless stream.
"Ah, Su Xingzhong!"
Someone suddenly greeted him. Su Chen glanced over. It was a stranger he’d never seen before.
But the person’s face held a faint look of terror and stiffness. After calling out the greeting, they hurried past without waiting for Su Chen to respond.
Su Chen frowned slightly, wondering what was going on.
Almost everyone on the street seemed to know him, and greetings rang out from time to time. But incidents like the one that just occurred kept happening. It was mostly Tier Four and Tier Five people, all of them young-looking, who he guessed were members of the Holy Hall.
Some of the High Tier members, on the other hand, were perfectly calm and showed no such strange reactions.
’Could it be...?’ Su Chen gradually figured it out. ’It’s probably my training projection. Or, to be more precise, my Might of the Law Master ability must have terrified them.’
"Tsk..." ’Psychological trauma, if not dealt with promptly, can be a real pain.’
