Chapter 335: Finish him from the root

In another part of the city—far from the quiet hum of Dr Chen’s office—

the air was thick with tension.

The sound of hurried footsteps echoed through the marble halls of Gu Heng’s mansion.

The heavy doors burst open.

Fu Lianhua stumbled inside.

Her once-perfect hair was in disarray, her expensive dress torn at the hem.

Gone was the graceful, refined lady who used to glide through society banquets with her chin held high.

What stood before Gu Heng now was a trembling woman, her eyes wide with panic and desperation.

"Save me... Gu Heng, please save me!" she cried, almost collapsing as she rushed toward him.

Her voice cracked with fear, and the tears that streamed down her face smeared her makeup into dark streaks.

Her entire body shook as she clutched at his sleeve like a drowning person grabbing onto driftwood.

Gu Heng had been expecting her.

He was already standing in the center of the living room, one hand in his pocket, the other holding a half-finished glass of wine.

The moment he heard the frantic footsteps, he had known it could only be her.

News traveled fast—too fast.

He had already been informed that Fu Jing Rong had returned to the Fu mansion... and that he had taken his father, Fu Sheng, back under his protection.

That single move had shifted the entire balance of power overnight.

It was no longer a rumor.

It was war.

Gu Heng’s expression was calm, almost too calm, as he watched Fu Lianhua throw herself into his arms.

He wrapped his arm around her slender shoulders, pulling her close—not out of affection, but because her trembling body was pitiful to watch.

"Hush," he whispered, stroking her hair slowly. "Don’t worry. I won’t let anything happen to you."

Fu Lianhua buried her face against his chest, sobbing uncontrollably.

Her once carefully chosen perfume now mingled with the scent of fear and sweat.

"They found out, Gu Heng! He knows everything!" she cried, gripping his jacket desperately. "Fu Jing Rong—he took him away! He’ll ruin us, he’ll ruin everything!"

Gu Heng’s jaw tightened. His eyes darkened, the calm façade cracking for just a moment.

He knew she wasn’t exaggerating.

Fu Jing Rong didn’t act without purpose. Every move he made was deliberate, cold, and devastating.

If he had already taken Fu Sheng back, then it meant only one thing—

He had uncovered their secret.

Gu Heng set the glass down slowly on the table beside him, the faint clink echoing in the silent room.

His mind was already spinning with possibilities, calculations, and contingencies.

If they had acted a few hours earlier—if they had just moved a little faster—

Fu Jing Rong wouldn’t have had the chance to strike first.

But now...

Now they were the ones cornered.

He looked down at the woman clinging to him, her once-proud face now streaked with tears.

The mighty lady of the Fu family, reduced to a frightened shell of herself.

"Lianhua," he said quietly, his tone steady, though there was an edge of steel beneath it. "Listen to me. Panicking won’t help us now."

She looked up, her eyes red and wild. "What are we going to do? He’ll destroy us! Do you know what he’s capable of? He—he’ll take everything!"

Gu Heng’s lips pressed into a thin line. "I know exactly what he’s capable of."

He walked a few steps away from her, his back straight, his thoughts moving faster than his words.

The faint city lights glowed through the tall windows behind him, reflecting in his cold eyes.

"This is no longer about pride or revenge," he said finally. "It’s about survival."

Fu Lianhua swallowed hard, her body trembling. "Survival?"

"Yes." He turned to face her again. "We’ve been playing the wrong game. Trying to beat him head-on was foolish. He’s always been three steps ahead."

He walked back to her, his expression dark. "Now we must drag him down from the inside."

Fu Lianhua blinked through her tears. "What do you mean?"

Gu Heng’s gaze sharpened. "If we can’t destroy Fu Jing Rong directly, then we destroy everything around him. His position. His family ties. His influence in the Fu Group."

He leaned closer, his voice dropping low.

"We cut off his power from the roots."

Fu Lianhua froze. For a long moment, she said nothing. Then slowly, her breathing steadied. The wild panic in her eyes began to fade, replaced by something darker.

"So you’re saying..." she whispered, her voice trembling. "...we make him lose his place in the Fu Group."

A cold smile curved Gu Heng’s lips. "Exactly. We isolate him completely. Throw him out of the Fu Group—and out of the Fu family."

He turned toward the desk, where several documents lay open. His fingers brushed over them lightly.

"Fu Sheng will be on his side now. But that doesn’t matter. The shareholders are not as loyal as they pretend to be. With the right push, they’ll turn against him."

Fu Lianhua wiped her tears, her mind already latching onto his words like a lifeline. "And what about our son?"

Gu Heng looked up, his eyes gleaming.

"Fu Ling," he said softly, almost as if savoring the name. "He’s the key."

Fu Lianhua’s lips parted slightly. "You mean...?"

"Our son must take the seat we’ve been preparing him for," Gu Heng said firmly. "The position that should’ve been his long ago. If Fu Jing Rong falls, Fu Ling rises. That’s the only way to protect everything we’ve built."

He stepped forward, cupping Fu Lianhua’s chin gently, forcing her to meet his gaze.

"Do you understand now? This isn’t the time to cry. It’s the time to plan."

Fu Lianhua stared at him, the tremor in her hands slowly fading.

Her tears had dried, replaced by the faint glimmer of resolve.

"Yes," she whispered. "You’re right."

Gu Heng released her and turned toward the window again. The city lights stretched endlessly before him—bright, cruel, and deceptive.

He could feel the storm closing in.

No matter how carefully they moved now, one misstep would destroy them completely.

But if they played their cards right...

If Fu Ling secured that seat...

Then even Fu Jing Rong wouldn’t be able to wipe them out.

Gu Heng exhaled slowly, his expression unreadable.

Just then, his phone suddenly rings...
