Chapter 2833: Chapter 945: Bearing All Evil, Serving Hope; This Body Has Already Died, Awaiting the Future
Murphy had never felt this exhausted before.
Even when he was sealing the subspace rift beneath Base R-9, he hadn’t felt as weary as he did now. As he continuously ignited and burned the Divine Spirit of The Master of Hunting, he gained a much deeper understanding of what these gods entailed, and the most direct realization was:
These high-concentration faith aggregates really endure burning...
It’s like trying to ignite a piece of coal with a flame; even the continuous stripping ignition required Murphy to focus all his power to suppress it. The Master of Hunting was constantly struggling, and this mental struggle made Murphy feel like he was holding down a fish that kept jumping and would bite.
Maintaining this full-force posture for precisely seven minutes and twenty-one seconds, he finally incinerated the core faith symbol of The Master of Hunting completely.
Utilizing the Omega Program, Murphy continuously inspected the space around him, and only after confirming that the very last traces of The Master of Hunting had been purified and the state of the divine hunting beacon within himself had disappeared, did he release his mechanical fingers.
A lump of pure white substance fell into his palm, as light as a feather.
But this was the last thing The Master of Hunting left behind, barely qualifying as "ashes."
He didn’t immediately examine it; instead, he glanced at Huggesen, who now resembled a pitiable creature with a self-ignited body. Not only had his fur been completely burned off, but his eyes were scorched, and his blackened skin was covered with burns, looking much like a failed piece of pottery.
"This guy’s beyond saving, his body was already seriously injured and even his soul was ignited by you."
Laowa, who assisted Murphy in crushing The Master of Hunting, finally let out a vindictive sigh and, departing with a note of human compassion, said:
"He was a good man who took the wrong path."
"He knew it was a path from which there was no return, but he set foot on it regardless, just so other Wolf People wouldn’t have to face such a choice."
Murphy shook his head and said:
"You go ahead, I want to hear his final words."
"Hmph, you dare speak to The Fury in that tone! Given my usual temperament, I would have taught you a harsh lesson, but since we worked together to grind the Evil God to dust, I’ll let you go for today."
Laowa, before leaving, didn’t forget to throw a harsh remark, truly embodying the vivid demeanor of an aggressively poor Fury.
Murphy, controlling the Power Armor, pulled out the wolf-headed lance that had pierced Huggesen’s body and weaponry, then laid the damaged Power Armor flat by the swamp’s muddy edge.
He knelt there.
Looking at the weakly moaning Huggesen in front of him, this guy was truly in the most pathetic state Murphy had ever seen among all the villains.
"I know you’re watching, please give me a hand."
Murphy said softly:
"At least let him finish his last words."
In response to his plea, waves of emerald green aura surged from the surroundings, and under the manipulation of Avalon, the god of spying, it merged into Huggesen’s completely shattered form.
This wasn’t enough to heal him, but it allowed him to temporarily escape pain, granting his still smoldering soul a moment of peace.
"Cough... cough..."
Coughing sounds echoed from the mouth of the Grand Marshal, permeated with a burnt odor.
His eyes were destroyed, rendering his vision dark, but with the pain dulled, he could at least speak. The damaged vocal cords could no longer produce his once mighty voice and could only utter in a grating tone:
"He’s dead, right? Are you sure he’s dead?"
"He’s dead, crushed to dust. If you could see, I’d even be happy to let you spit on his ashes."
Murphy flicked the visor of his battle helmet open and jokingly said in a gentle voice:
"It must have been painful, considering that our Master of Hunting was aware and conscious throughout the cremation... But I suppose it doesn’t matter much, after all, he was an Evil God who took pride in bringing pain to others. I’d imagine he might even enjoy the sensation of pain himself.
What do you think?"
"I... didn’t hear any enjoyment in his howls, more like a gnoll whose toe had been stepped on, letting out an unpleasant wail in its final moments. He always disguised himself as strong, but in reality, that couldn’t change his cowardly nature...
Sigh, so much like us, like the Wolf People."
Huggesen spoke with a tone of relief:
"He was the villain we created, he was our embodiment, like us, like what we were.
But I bet the Wolf People a thousand years ago were nothing like us. Hog could gather so many Wolf People in such a short time, I guess, the ancestors a millennium ago were surely much stronger than us now.
Not just in power, but in mind and the richness of their spirit world... I can’t imagine such a life, but I’m sure it must have been much better than ours now.
Murphy...
Do you think Hog will lead the Wolf People into such a future?
One where we no longer have to draw blades over a bite of food, where we no longer have to launch black disasters in the hunger for fullness, where we no longer live as savages in this cold world?"
"In your current state, I should say something comforting, fool you a bit for a peaceful departure."
Murphy pondered and spoke softly:
"But in truth, I think you deserve to hear the reality, Hog can’t do it! No one can lead you back to the Golden Era of a thousand years ago, not I, nor even the creator descended in person.
