Chapter 370: Chaos In The Underworld
There was a saying throughout the Underworld.
"If Lust ruled hearts, Greed ruled everything else."
Gildreach Vault was less a city and more the economic heart of Hell. Every empire, every kingdom, every mercenary company, every noble family, and every prince eventually found themselves doing business within its walls. Coin did not merely circulate here. It governed life itself.
The city stretched across an endless valley of black stone where towering skyscrapers of polished gold, silver, and emerald crystal pierced the crimson sky. Rivers of molten gold flowed through carefully carved canals, illuminating entire districts with a warm metallic glow. Massive bridges forged from platinum connected districts suspended high above the streets, allowing nobles to travel without ever touching the crowded markets below.
This was the place demons spent centuries saving gold to visit with their families.
Many called it the Heaven of the Underworld.
Hovering far above the magnificent city, Sol silently observed everything unfolding beneath him. His golden robes drifted lazily in the wind while the enormous sun behind him bathed the entire valley in radiant light. Countless demons moved through the streets without the slightest awareness that one of the most powerful beings in existence had arrived above their home.
It truly was breathtaking.
The beauty did not come merely from the gold or the towering buildings, but from the life within them. Merchants laughed while closing impossible deals. Families strolled through glittering gardens fashioned entirely from gemstones. Floating districts drifted gracefully across the heavens while waterfalls of liquid silver poured into crystal lakes below.
It was magnificent.
Which only left Sol asking himself the same question he had pondered countless times throughout the ages.
"Why don’t humans live in such a magnificent city?" Sol muttered quietly as his gaze wandered across Lazarus’ territory.
Ever since ascending to Godhood, that single thought had lingered in the back of his mind. Whenever he looked upon Aurelios, his own divine realm where righteous souls rested beneath his protection, he always found himself comparing it to Gildreach Vault.
His people were happy. Yet this city possessed something Aurelios lacked that even Sol could not explain.
When a mortal died, their soul naturally entered the cycle of reincarnation. Only those who became devoted to a deity escaped that immediate fate. Their souls would first stand before the god they had faithfully served throughout life, awaiting judgment. The righteous were welcomed into the Spirit Realm beneath their deity’s protection, where they could rest, learn, and enjoy paradise for centuries. The wicked among those same devotees were also retained, though only to face punishment proportionate to the sins they had accumulated during life. Yet regardless of merit or punishment, no soul could remain forever. After one thousand years, every spirit was returned to the cycle of reincarnation so the balance of existence remained undisturbed.
Sol understood that law better than anyone. He had upheld it faithfully for countless years.
At that was why his eyes never left the glittering metropolis beneath him. He believed this would be the perfect resting place for his devotees.
"Perhaps..." he murmured, his lips slowly curved upward.
"Perhaps today I shall make it mine."
The smile disappeared as a brilliant golden light ignited within his eyes. The divine radiance was so intense it seemed as though two miniature suns had been born where his pupils once rested.
At first nothing happened.
The streets remained crowded. Nobody noticed the god standing high above them.
Then the temperature rose. It was subtle enough that most dismissed it. Several merchants loosened their collars. Others wiped beads of sweat from their foreheads before continuing negotiations.
Minutes later the heat intensified.
The polished streets became warm beneath countless feet. Shopkeepers stepped outside wondering why the day had suddenly become unbearable.
Metal handrails became too hot to touch. Visitors removed heavy coats.
Within moments, entire districts were stripping away layers of clothing while confused voices spread throughout the city.
"What is happening?"
"Why is it getting hotter?"
"Is this some new enchantment?"
Someone finally looked toward the heavens and his face turned pale.
He pointed upward with a trembling hand. The people around him instinctively followed his gaze.
Silence swept across the city upon looking up. The sun looked larger than it should ever be.
It took several long seconds before anyone understood the horrifying truth. The sun itself was not growing, it was descending.
Suspended directly before the blazing celestial body stood a lone figure with flowing golden hair dancing within the scorching winds. White and gold robes worthy of ancient Greek legends billowed majestically behind him while radiant wings of light stretched across the heavens. His presence dwarfed everything around him, making the descending sun appear like nothing more than his divine halo.
Every eye in Gildreach Vault locked onto him and fear spread faster than wildfire.
The first scream echoed across the city, then hundreds and finally millions.
Panic erupted without restraint. Merchants abandoned fortunes scattered across their stalls. Noble families fled from floating districts toward underground vaults. Dragons roared while taking to the skies only to immediately retreat from the unbearable heat radiating from above. Entire streets dissolved into chaos as demons shoved one another in desperate attempts to escape a disaster that had nowhere to run from.
Some dropped to their knees while others buried their faces against the pavement. Prayers, pleas, and terrified cries blended into one overwhelming roar that echoed across the valley.
Buzz!
A colossal wave of golden authority erupted from the center of Gildreach Vault.
Every building trembled as every contract inscribed throughout the city glowed brilliantly.
"YOU DARE COME TO ACT RECKLESSLY IN MY DOMAIN?"
Lazarus’ furious voice exploded across the heavens like rolling thunder.
His golden aura surged outward from his Grand Palace, washing over the city in an endless tide of divine authority that pushed back against the unbearable heat descending from above.
"THIS TIME YOU HAVE GONE TOO FAR!"
The golden pressure spread across every district, wrapping itself around the terrified citizens like a protective veil. The molten rivers steadied. Trembling buildings ceased shaking. Even the collapsing courage of countless demons stabilized beneath the reassuring presence of their ruler.
High above, Sol watched everything with complete indifference.
"Hmph!"
The contemptuous snort echoed throughout the heavens. His gaze remained fixed upon the city below as though Lazarus’ arrival had changed nothing.
"IF I WISH TO BURN THIS CITY DOWN..."
His voice rolled across the world with the authority of a supreme deity, causing the descending sun to blaze even brighter.
"DO YOU TRULY THINK YOU CAN STOP ME?!"
