Chapter 703: Chapter 703 You’re a traitor!
"Heh, meet with our boss? Does the Wu Family even have the qualifications?" Yang Qi sneered, looking at Wu Xing with disdain. "Scram. For Aunt Rouyun’s sake, I won’t kill you. From now on, Aunt Yun is staying with me."
Wu Xing turned to Wu Rouyun and said coldly, "Wu Rouyun, you’ve betrayed the family. Do you think you can live here in peace? Does your conscience not bother you?"
"That’s right, Wu Rouyun, you’re a disgrace! You’d abandon your own flesh and blood for a bastard."
"You whore!"
...
The chorus of curses grew, each word uglier than the last. Yang Qi’s expression turned frosty. In the next moment, the Wolf King shot forward. Everyone who had been cursing Wu Rouyun was sent flying, their mouths swelling as their teeth flew out. One by one, they clutched their faces in terror.
Covering his own swollen face, Wu Xing was terrified. What kind of people were these? They were horrifying.
Yang Qi’s voice was like ice. "I told you to scram. Are you refusing to leave? Fine, you can all die here."
"Wait!" Wu Rouyun stepped in front of Yang Qi, offering a faint smile. "Little Qi, I’m so glad you still see me as your aunt. But they’re right. By telling you all this, I have betrayed the Wu Family. I have to go back. But don’t worry, I’m still engaged to a great family in Sea City. They wouldn’t dare do anything too serious to me. At most, they’ll just give me a beating. It’s nothing, I’m used to it."
Used to it.
Yang Qi’s heart ached to hear this. A woman, so used to being beaten by her own family... just how much despair must she have felt to reach this point? She was completely numb.
"Did you hear that, Yang Qi? Wu Rouyun knows her place better than you do," Wu Xing said coldly. "As the Wu Family’s grandson, you refuse to make a sacrifice when the family is in trouble. You are the very definition of selfish."
"Hah, you’re quite skilled at pinning blame on others and playing the victim," Yang Qi retorted with a sneer. "In all these years, have I ever received a single favor from the Wu Family? Now that the family is in trouble, you direct-line members who live in luxury refuse to make a sacrifice and instead expect an outsider like me to do it? How can you say that with a straight face?"
"You!" Wu Xing’s face flushed, but he didn’t care. His life was more important than his pride.
Yang Qi ignored him and turned back to Wu Rouyun. "Aunt Yun, if you want to go back, I won’t stop you. But I hope you see these people for who they truly are. If you run into danger, remember to contact me."
As he spoke, he stepped closer and implanted a thread of Divine Thought into her. This way, he would know the instant she was in trouble and could rush to her side. Even so, he wasn’t fully at ease. He handed her a Yellow Paper Talisman. "Aunt Yun, keep this in your pocket. It might save your life if you’re in danger."
Wu Rouyun didn’t think much of it, but she accepted the talisman and tucked it into an inner pocket. This was the first gift Yang Qi had ever given her; she had to cherish it.
"Hahahaha!" Wu Xing and the others burst out laughing. "Yang Qi, oh, Yang Qi, you truly overestimate yourself. If it weren’t for the Star Shining Society, you’d have been dead long ago. And now you have the nerve to boast here? Don’t tell me you actually think you’re qualified to stand against the Wu Family, one of the ten great families of Sea City."
"And why not?" Yang Qi said calmly. "I was the one who destroyed the Tianhai Association. Wiping out your Wu Family would be as easy as turning over my hand."
"Hahahaha!" The group erupted in laughter again.
"Stop making a fool of yourself. The one who destroyed the Tianhai Association was the Boss of the Star Shining Society, not you. You’re really trying to take credit for it," Wu Xing sneered.
"I am the boss of the Star Shining Society," Yang Qi stated plainly.
"Hahahaha!" Another round of boisterous laughter filled the air. No one believed him; they all thought the kid had lost his mind and was just spouting nonsense.
"If you’re the boss of the Star Shining Society, then I’m the Sect Leader of the Black Evil Sect," Wu Xing said with contempt. "Whatever. Since you already know the truth, I’m not afraid to tell you. We wanted you back at the Wu Family manor not because you’re valuable, but because you have value as a sacrifice. We’re sending you to the Black Evil Sect to protect the direct members of our Wu Family. Understand?"
"Heh, your Wu Family truly is shameless beyond belief. But if you want me to be your sacrificial lamb, you’d better see if you’re qualified. If you’re not, you’re just courting death!" Yang Qi said coldly.
"So arrogant. Just you wait. Once our old master meets with your Association Leader and you’ve lost your backer, we’ll see what you do then. Let’s go."
Wu Xing and his lackeys turned and left.
Wu Rouyun gave Yang Qi one last, deep look before she too turned and departed.
Yang Qi sighed. Is it really worth it, Rouyun, for a family like that? A family so devoid of affection might as well be destroyed. The more I learn about the Wu Family, the more I feel they deserve to be ruined. But the thought of Wu Rouman made him hold back. After all, that’s her family. I can’t just destroy it. If it comes to it, killing a few of them to vent my anger will have to be enough.
「Thunder City, the Wu Family’s secondary residence.」
Wu Rouyun was dragged back by Wu Xing and the others. The moment she arrived, she was kicked to her knees.
In truth, Wu Rouyun knew martial arts. Among the second generation of the Wu Family, her skills were second only to Wu Rouman’s. But she didn’t fight back. Perhaps it was her upbringing, which had taught her never to rebel against her parents. It made her wonder if she had truly betrayed the Wu Family. After all, if Yang Qi didn’t go to the Black Evil Sect, someone else would have to. By saving Yang Qi, she had effectively sentenced another direct family member to be sacrificed. Guilt gnawed at her.
In reality, none of this had anything to do with her. She wasn’t the one who had offended the Black Evil Sect, nor had she signed any contract with them. The burden was not hers to bear. Yet the true culprits were being protected while she, the innocent one, was branded a traitor. It was utterly absurd.
"Elder Brother, Father, just as you suspected, this wench went to find that Yang Qi," Wu Xing reported viciously. "She told him everything, including our reasons for looking for him. Now that brat knows it all."
SMACK! Wu Heng struck Wu Rouyun squarely across the face. "You wench, do you have any idea what you’ve done? This is betrayal! It’s a capital offense!"
The Wu Family’s old master stared at his own daughter, his eyes as cold as if she were a complete stranger. "I should have strangled you at birth. To think I’d raise such an unfilial daughter."
The other Wu Family members began to point and shout, their accusations escalating into vile curses.
"Traitor! You deserve to die."
"You must be possessed! How dare you defy the old master’s will? You’re insane!"
"Years ago, you and that wench Wu Rouman refused to listen to the old master’s advice, and now you’ve pulled this stunt. You won’t be happy until you’ve destroyed the Wu Family, will you?"
