Chapter 702: Chapter 702: She is not your biological mother!
At the door, Yang Qi saw a woman in her thirties.
Though in her thirties, she was at the peak of her charm, possessing an allure that far surpassed that of women in their teens or twenties. Every move she made exuded the graceful, serene air of a well-born lady.
"I am Yang Qi. Are you looking for me?" Yang Qi asked, looking at Wu Rouyun with curiosity.
Although this woman seemed to have spoken well of him, it was only enough to give him a slightly favorable impression. He felt no other emotions. After all, she was still a stranger.
"Little Qi, is that really you? So many years have passed. I never expected you to change so much."
Wu Rouyun felt a pang of shame. Before her sister left, she had entrusted Yang Qi to her care. Things had gone smoothly at first, but then the Wu Family found out and forbade her from helping him. She hadn’t seen him since he was ten. Later, she heard that Yang Qi had started a company and was doing well, which put her mind at ease. But then she heard his company had collapsed and his wife had left him. She was overcome with worry, but there was nothing she could do. Her family watched her closely, even threatening to break Yang Qi’s legs if she went to see him. The boy had already suffered enough; she couldn’t possibly add to his burdens. She wouldn’t have come this time if it weren’t for the matter concerning the Black Evil Sect.
"Right, I’m not here to reminisce, Little Qi," she said urgently. "Hurry and pack your things. You have to escape. The Old Patriarch and the Family Head have both come. This time, they’re determined to take you back to the Wu Family, whether by trickery or by force. Their intentions are impure; they plan to send you to the Black Evil Sect as a sacrifice. You mustn’t be deceived."
Wu Rouyun didn’t want to explain any further. She felt she truly owed this child, and more words would be pointless.
Yang Qi was momentarily stunned.
He knew about Wu Rouyun’s situation. She had always held a low status in the family and was watched closely. He’d even heard they had forced her to marry a man she didn’t like. And it wasn’t just a matter of dislike—the man was utterly despicable. Wu Rouyun could barely protect herself, yet she had still managed to come and tell him all this.
"Why?" Yang Qi couldn’t help but ask. "Why are you telling me this?"
"Child, you’re still asking why? Hurry up and run! Any later and it will be too late. They must know I’ve come, and they’ll be sending people soon," Wu Rouyun grew anxious.
"Aunt Yun, what kind of person was my mother?" Yang Qi suddenly asked.
Wu Rouyun froze. She shook her head and said, "Child, don’t be foolish. Let me tell you the truth. You are not my sister’s biological son; at best, you are an adopted son. Years ago, two great masters had urgent matters to attend to, so they entrusted their child to the Di Family. The Di Family made a fine promise to take good care of you. But then they discovered you possessed an Immortal Bone and planned to offer you to the Heavenly God Sect, presenting your Immortal Bone to the Divine Child. Your parents had shown great kindness to my sister, so she spirited you away in the name of the Heavenly God Sect and fled. When you were three, my sister was found. She had no choice but to leave you at that orphanage."
"To think something like that happened."
Yang Qi had a hard time accepting it. The sheer amount of information was overwhelming, and it was all so shocking.
It took him a long while to come to his senses. "But I don’t have an Immortal Bone. I remember when I was five, someone came looking for me. They suspected I had one, but later said I didn’t."
"That’s because my sister removed your Immortal Bone to save your life," Wu Rouyun explained. "You must not tell anyone about this, or your life will be in danger. Neither the Di Family nor the Heavenly God Sect are powers you can afford to provoke."
Yang Qi now basically understood the whole story. He’d never expected his own background to be so bizarre. Without Wu Rouman, he might have already died. No, he definitely would have died, and it would have been a miserable death. The people from the Heavenly God Sect certainly wouldn’t have let him live after taking his Immortal Bone; they would have undoubtedly eradicated him to prevent any future trouble.
"Mother Wu! You were not my birth mother, but you were more than a mother to me! It’s a pity you’ve already passed away, and I can no longer fulfill my filial duties," Yang Qi sighed. He felt he would be indebted to this woman for the rest of his life.
Wu Rouyun hesitated, words on the tip of her tongue. She had wanted to tell Yang Qi that Wu Rouman wasn’t dead, but she ultimately held back. With this boy’s temperament, he would most likely try to rescue her. Wouldn’t that be jumping straight into a pit of fire? It was better not to mention it.
"Child, let the past be the past. You’re just an ordinary person now and should live your own life. Hurry and leave this place. Really, you’re running out of time," Wu Rouyun urged, her anxiety mounting.
Just then, several cars screeched to a halt at the entrance of the Baishan Estate. The people who stepped out were none other than Wu Xing and his men.
"Wu Rouyun, are you insane? What have you told him, you treacherous wench!" Wu Xing roared as he rushed over. "You’re asking for death!"
Furious, Wu Xing swung his hand to slap Wu Rouyun.
Wu Rouyun didn’t move. She accepted that as a member of the Wu Family, she had indeed betrayed them. So, even though her Martial Arts were not weak, she did not resist. She closed her eyes, but after a long moment, the slap still hadn’t landed.
Startled, Wu Rouyun opened her eyes, only to find a tall figure standing before her. At twenty-five, Yang Qi was nearly 1.9 meters tall. He stood there like a mountain, as if he could shelter her from any storm.
"Aunt Yun, from now on, no one can bully you," Yang Qi declared. He couldn’t show filial piety to Wu Rouman, but thankfully, Wu Rouyun was still here. This woman had also guarded him fiercely for many years, and this time, she had risked her life to tell him to flee. He would acknowledge her as his elder, even if they were only seven or eight years apart in age.
"You must be Yang Qi! I advise you to let go of me right now, or don’t blame me for being impolite!" Wu Xing threatened. He was genuinely alarmed. He was a Third Rank Overlord, yet when Yang Qi grabbed his arm, he couldn’t move an inch. This Yang Qi was no simple character.
BAM!
Yang Qi kicked Wu Xing to the ground and said coldly, "You’ll be impolite to me? If it weren’t for Mother Wu’s sake, I guarantee none of you would leave here alive! Remember this: I’ve known all about the sordid affair between you and the Black Evil Sect for a while now. I refused to return precisely because I knew the truth. This has nothing to do with Aunt Yun. Now, scram! I have some things to discuss with Aunt Yun. I’ll send her back after a while!"
"Yang Qi, I know you’re acting arrogantly because of your connections with the Star Shining Society," Wu Xing said with a hint of fear as he scrambled up from the ground. "But let me tell you, the Old Patriarch has already gone to meet President Ye. He might even contact the boss of your Society. Once he speaks to them, we’ll see how arrogant you can be then!"
