Chapter 206: Chapter 206: Unable to Reach
After Jiang Che told everyone everything, the group quickly returned to their respective cities.
The city under Leng Feng’s control wasn’t far from Jiang Che’s place—taking a helicopter back only took a little over an hour.
Even before they came to Jiang Che, the gathered high-level humans had already divided up the cities and agreed on who would guard where.
Everyone each took charge of an area, and people at the edges of these areas all gathered here, seeking protection.
As for those who stubbornly refused to leave, there was no way to force them.
The areas high-levels could protect were already limited, and the number of high-level humans was also limited. It was simply impossible to take care of everyone.
This wasn’t an eviction; there was no benefit to being a holdout now.
Unless that holdout also had the power to contend with the Dark Forest.
Leng Feng opened the livestream, checking the time—by now, everyone should have returned to their own territories.
He had promised to livestream the process of him creating a dungeon for everyone to see.
He had even thought through what to do next and how to set up the stages during his flight home.
In fact, before coming to Jiang Che’s dungeon, he already had a lot of ideas about the stages, but he just couldn’t figure out what kind of stage would actually keep the evil spirits out.
Now, he had two choices: one was to follow his own will and use the deepest obsession in his mind to create a dungeon unique to himself.
The other way was to empty his mind and set up a free-form dungeon.
The difficulty of the first kind of dungeon depends on the dungeon itself.
Jiang Che’s dungeon is this kind; for the second kind, the difficulty depends on the person creating the dungeon, plus any subordinates stationed inside it.
The stronger these are, the stronger the dungeon is.
"I’m sure everyone already knows how to create a dungeon, and the different types."
"In the days since the weirdness began, we’ve seen all kinds of dungeons, but the most common are the free-form dungeons."
"They only have an exit and no special rules."
"As long as you leave through the exit, you’ve passed the challenge."
"Whether you can actually leave depends on your strength and the overall strength of everyone in the dungeon."
As soon as he finished speaking, the chat barrage started scrolling rapidly.
Most were questions from low-tier humans. This was a public livestream, and he didn’t intend to hide anything from ordinary people.
Because who knows—maybe some of them will suddenly level up one day.
Besides, creating dungeons and setting up stages wasn’t some kind of secret; even regular evil spirits would know, so ordinary people could too.
[So isn’t the free-form dungeon a big disadvantage for humans?]
[Evil spirits are so strong, doesn’t that mean free dungeons are just their playgrounds?]
[I think humans’ biggest advantage is wisdom—maybe we should try setting up rules-based dungeons. If the rules are crazy enough, we might even be able to kill higher-level evil spirits.]
[How come evil spirits have tons of low-level dungeons, but low-level humans can’t create dungeons themselves?]
...
What they were most confused about was why low-level humans couldn’t create dungeons. After all, they’d all cleared plenty of low-level evil spirit dungeons before, and the spirits guarding those weren’t that strong.
Back then, what everyone dreaded most was running into a rules-based dungeon at a low level.
Because when facing weak evil spirits, you can’t really show off your strength.
But when up against powerful evil spirits, they were the ones hoping to run into a rule-based dungeon instead.
Because under strict rules, raw power sort of takes a back seat.
"Actually, in my opinion, this is both a drawback and a strength," Leng Feng sighed. "Because those low-level evil spirit dungeons weren’t created by the spirits themselves."
"As you can see, the Dark Forest is crazy aggressive—it’s the Evil Spirit Lords who, after raising their own power, carve out small areas in the Dark Forest. Then, with their own presence there, they just station one spirit matching that area’s power inside, and that’s enough."
"This time, I’m planning to start with a regular free dungeon."
"Time is tight, so I hope everyone can make their own choices ASAP." After speaking, he glanced at the guest seats in the livestream—he wanted to ask what the others thought.
He wasn’t pushing everyone to do free dungeons; he hoped for variety. Having rules-based dungeons is a good thing. A well-designed rules dungeon could be the hope humans need to turn things around.
He just wanted to see what everyone was choosing.
But when he looked at the guest section, he realized two people hadn’t shown up.
No sign of them in the stream either.
Leng Feng frowned. "Let’s all wait a bit, okay? Daan and Brother Qi haven’t arrived yet. Once everyone’s here, I’ll start making the dungeon."
He wasn’t trying to guilt-trip people into watching him accomplish something—he just hoped everyone would see what to pay attention to in the process of creating a dungeon.
Even though time was short, after waiting all this time already, a few more minutes didn’t make a difference.
[Brother Leng, Daan and Brother Qi can’t be reached.] Suddenly, a red chat message popped up. It was from another high-level human, Zhao Lei, who had just met the requirements to create a dungeon.
He wanted to set up his dungeon as soon as possible.
He’d picked the city closest to home. He was just a regular working guy. Since the weirdness began, he’d fought his way through dungeon after dungeon.
His power grew, and so did people’s respect for him.
The status and recognition he never had before—now, after the weird broke out, he got to enjoy it all.
They say getting rich and not returning home is like wearing fancy clothes at night when no one can see.
He really enjoyed the feeling of being treated as a hometown hero.
Because he was eager to create the dungeon, he’d called both of them earlier, but no matter who he dialed, all he heard was the "not in service" tone.
Leng Feng paused for a moment, then quickly took out his phone to dial.
Normally, unless evil spirits had invaded, just facing the Dark Forest didn’t cause unusual incidents.
They’d already tested it—the forest doesn’t actively attack high-level humans. Against the low-level ones, though, it’s a different story.
In areas without the Dark Forest, all the base stations and network facilities worked normally; there shouldn’t be any communication issues.
"Haven’t they gone back yet?" Leng Feng frowned, hearing the out-of-service tone. It’d been over two hours since they left Jiang Che’s place.
By now, everyone should have returned to the cities they control.
He’d even planned out the stream’s timing based on this.
"Let’s wait another ten minutes. If they’re still not back, we’ll start without them."
As Leng Feng spoke, he gave his assistant a look.
The assistant immediately nodded and started using satellite tech to lock onto their last positions.
The location showed that those two, who hadn’t gotten in touch, were both in their respective cities, unmoving.
They were already back.
