Chapter 204: Chapter 204: We Will Surely Reach for Our Own Star
Leng Feng looked at Jiang Che, and maybe it was just his imagination, but he felt that when Jiang Che spoke, those cat-eye stone-like pupils shimmered with a hint of moisture.
He always thought that side would try to morally coerce Jiang Che under the guise of being his family.
Jiang Che had always fantasized about having a family; that identity was easy to exploit.
But now, it seemed like there wasn’t one.
Those eyes seemed about to cry—tears had filled them, but somehow flowed back into his body.
Leng Feng thought, those must be the hottest tears in the world.
"Ning won’t use me. Without a family, I’m just an ordinary person."
"You don’t have much time left." Jiang Che looked at Leng Feng. "I’m telling the dungeon this chain of information simply because Ning has too many enemies. I want to give the other Lords some trouble."
"On this point, our goals are aligned." Jiang Che spoke seriously.
"Not much time left?... What do you mean?"
"Do you see this Dark Forest? It all crawled out from the dungeon."
"Normally, it’d be the Evil Spirit Lords emerging from inside, but due to an accident, the master seed of the Dark Forest beat them to it, seized the passage, and went wild breeding in the Human Realm."
"Now, the Evil Spirit Lords are trying to open the passage twisted by the Dark Forest. The forest is buying itself time—that’s also your time."
After Jiang Che finished, he saw Leng Feng’s face turn ghostly pale in an instant. He stood unmoving, cold sweat sliding from his forehead down his nose.
There was panic in his eyes—the look of someone hunted by horror—his lips and cheeks drained of all color.
"About how much time?" Leng Feng’s gums tightened.
He’d always believed humanity had plenty of time. The strange hunting ground’s duration changed from ten days to nine, and maybe later it’d shorten rapidly, but humans still had time to grow.
The Dark Forest’s invasion messed up some of his plans, but also concentrated fighting strength, making it easier to govern, instead of letting high-level humans be undisciplined loners.
Now Jiang Che was telling him the Dark Forest was just the overture—the Evil Spirit Lords would arrive any moment.
No wonder Jiang Che told them dungeons need to have traps, or else they’d be devoured instantly.
Turns out Jiang Che’s words were true. He was sincere when he told everyone about setting up traps.
"If the dungeon setup is good enough, and the traps solid enough, even if we’re not strong enough, there’s still a chance to take out an Evil Spirit Lord when they arrive."
"You mean rule-based dungeons, right?" Leng Feng frowned; when Jiang Che mentioned it, that’s what he thought of.
Even in the Evil Spirit Realm, rule-based dungeons were rare, and low-level dungeons’ rules were simple.
Most dungeon traps are just exits—after all, ’clearing, exit’ is the symbol of a trap.
In free dungeons, the boss monsters are the gatekeepers you must defeat, but beating the boss isn’t always required—you can try sneaking past.
This is kind of like a lot of modern games.
The boss guards treasure chests; you can sneak in and grab it, instead of having to kill the boss.
"Creating a rule-based dungeon isn’t so easy." Leng Feng shook his head; if you screwed it up, you were just giving everything away.
Though Jiang Che never said it, he could feel, during dungeon trap creation, your mind and strength get crazily depleted.
If the rules aren’t solid enough, this might not even match a regular dungeon.
"I don’t know how much time is left." Jiang Che shook his head. "The evil spirits can kill people easily, but devouring a dungeon, that’s not simple."
Leng Feng generally understood what Jiang Che was getting at. He stood up and gave a deep bow.
"If you can, I hope you can ask Madam for me." He looked at Jiang Che, eyes conflicted.
Because he still couldn’t understand why the evil spirit would help Jiang Che.
He thought as Jiang Che did—Jiang Che was just an ordinary man.
Human power mostly comes from evil spirits; if she didn’t control Jiang Che, didn’t intend to use him as a planted piece among humans, what did she see in him?
Maybe she saw him as a genius?
Leng Feng didn’t know how Jiang Che got his strength, but it absolutely wasn’t just ’genius’ or ’hard work’ that explained it.
"I want to ask, can you help me break free of the control?" As he said this, his right hand pressed against his brow, dark blue veins pulsing again.
You could see he was trying hard to suppress it.
"Sorry, my ability can’t be used many times a day." The hand pressed to his brow weakened, his voice sounded strained.
"If you can get an answer, just message my livestream account."
"No matter what you send, I’ll understand, and I’ll come find you again."
"If you can’t get an answer... then call me."
Jiang Che nodded; what the other wanted was just a yes or no answer.
"I need to go. The time left to us isn’t much." He lowered his hand; as long as they avoided discussing the topic of losing control, his inner energy wouldn’t riot.
"If any human enters your dungeon by mistake in the future, please, if they haven’t offended you, give them a chance." He didn’t ask Jiang Che to release Long Yun.
He just felt a bit ridiculous—what Jiang Che called his evil spirit wife never insisted he take a side, never forced him to help humans or evil spirits.
She only said Jiang Che should take care of himself—if someone tried to harm him, kill them.
If an evil spirit tried to harm him, kill the spirit.
The hospital room that enclosed the two slowly faded away. Leng Feng straightened and walked out.
He no longer looked like the lazy guy lounging on the hospital bed.
Leng Feng took out his phone, started a livestream, and looked over at the group watching from the sidelines.
He began a broadcast facing all of humanity.
"Everyone, I know there are still some high-level humans who haven’t come, worried something might happen, afraid of falling into a trap."
"But I want to tell you all, we’re facing an unprecedented crisis."
His voice was low, carrying a leader’s unique sharpness.
Jiang Che thought that, for just a second, Leng Feng had changed—he wasn’t the same as in their private conversation.
In private, Jiang Che could see the terror in Leng Feng’s eyes, the panic there.
But the moment he opened the livestream for the world, he changed.
He propped his phone up in front of him, eyes glare down at the camera, his voice brazen and arrogant.
"Creating dungeons and setting up traps is the only path for us now. Our time is short, but I can tell you all for sure—there are no traps."
"Soon, the evil spirits will invade the Human Realm completely. This time it won’t be a day or two—they’ll stay for good."
"The future may get harder, but we will claim our star, no matter what."
Golden sunlight spilled over him, Leng Feng’s head and neck held high, his eyes fierce and formidable.
