Chapter 6: Loot and Supplies
He quickly searched through the apartment, and the rewards he found were actually far greater than in the previous homes.
Perhaps because there was a child in the family, the household had prepared a very complete supply of medicine.
Unlike office workers like Joo Joowon who loved ordering takeout and rarely cooked this family had stocked their refrigerator with a huge amount of food.
Frozen gyoza, sweet rice balls, rice, noodles, and similar supplies were all present.
There was even an unopened carton of milk.
As for toilet paper and daily necessities, they had an entire large cardboard box full of them, seemingly leftovers purchased during last year’s bug shopping event.
Joo Joowon had to make three trips before he managed to move everything back.
After returning, he tightly locked the door and opened his status panel to take a look.
[ Joo Joowon]
[ Level ]: 1 (2/10)
[ Strength ]: 4
[ Physique ]: 4 (+1)
[ Agility ]: 7
[ Mental Power ]: 8
[ Equipment ]: Beginner Shirt
[ Money ]: Copper Coin ×2
Out of seven zombies, only two copper coins had dropped.
Joo Joowon had no idea whether he was simply unlucky or whether the game’s drop rate was naturally this low.
He extracted the copper coins and examined them carefully.
The copper coins were about the same size as ordinary silver coins.
The engravings were extremely detailed with vine like patterns wrapped around the surface.
In the center were the words "The Age of Apocalypse Online."
The script was not any type of writing Joo Joowon recognized, yet strangely enough, he could still understand it.
Both sides carried the exact same design, and there did not seem to be any major difference between them.
After putting away the copper coins, Joo Joowon glanced outside the window.
The sky was already bright.
He had spent the entire night from midnight until morning killing those seven zombies.
A lot of time had been wasted sharpening wooden sticks and searching for clothes.
However, because of leveling up, he surprisingly did not feel sleepy at all.
Instead, he felt extremely energetic.
At some unknown point, the outside world had once again become silent.
Even the usual sounds of cats and dogs that could normally be heard in the morning had disappeared, as though they had all hidden themselves away.
He had no idea how many people were still alive.
Since he could barely protect himself, Joo Joowon had no spare energy to worry about others.
He went to the bathroom to wash away the sweat on his body and changed into a hoodie and long pants.
However, he still kept the equipment on without removing it.
Although the Beginner Shirt had originally been worn outside the padded coat, it had not gotten dirty at all.
If he could not see any dirt, then there was none.
Joo Joowon did not mind wearing it underneath his clothes.
Attribute points were far more important than whether clothing was clean or not.
The equipment dropped by zombies was somewhat better than Joo Joowon had expected.
He had not tested fire yet, but water simply could not touch the equipment at all.
Clearly, the beginner gear that the game looked down on was not as worthless as he had imagined.
At the very least, after equipping it, there was no need to take it off or worry about it becoming smelly or rotten with sweat.
It truly deserved the system’s description of being a change of clothes.
Joo Joowon left all the clothes stained with zombie blood inside the bathroom.
The moment he opened the door, he saw the little cat sitting outside the bathroom entrance.
Cats and dogs probably all worried that their owners would somehow drown in the toilet.
Joo Joowon picked the cat up, buried his face against its belly, and took a deep breath.
Instantly, his mood relaxed considerably.
"Meow~"
The little cat was one of those cats with a soft cutesy voice.
Not naturally, but intentionally.
Whenever it meowed in front of Joo Joowon, its voice was always extremely soft and gentle.
If one was not paying attention, it was easy to completely miss the sound.
Its body was not large.
Compared to orange cats, it was far smaller.
It was even smaller than ordinary cats because it naturally had a tiny frame.
Joo Joowon placed the cat on his shoulder, scooped a spoonful of cat food from the storage container into the cat bowl, then returned to grab the basins and buckets he had taken from the neighboring apartment to fill them with water.
The water and electricity had not been cut off yet, but that did not mean they would remain available forever.
Preparing in advance was never wrong.
While filling the containers with water, Joo Joowon organized the supplies he had brought back.
There were still several apartments on the same floor that had remained completely silent.
He could not tell whether there was nobody inside or whether the occupants were simply too frightened by the outside commotion to make any noise.
Regardless, resources were not yet scarce at the moment, so he had no intention of looting apartments that did not contain zombies.
After finally finishing all his work, Joo Joowon decided to rest for a while instead of rushing out to hunt zombies again.
It was not because he was lazy.
Rather, he had no way of understanding the situation on the other floors.
After all, when facing danger, people reacted in many different ways.
There was always the possibility that someone, while being chased by zombies, had chosen to run out the apartment door instead of hiding in a bedroom.
If that happened, the zombies would already be roaming freely in the hallways.
Joo Joowon had no confidence in fighting zombies head on.
Moreover, the other floors were different from his own.
As far as he knew, almost every unit there was occupied.
What if someone suddenly attacked him while he was killing zombies just to steal his kills?
Thinking about this gave Joo Joowon an even bigger headache.
