Chapter 52: Lord Rank Boss

That meant experience points would inevitably become even scarcer moving forward.

At the end of the day, there were only so many areas where zombies could be killed easily.

Once those places had been cleared out, they were gone for good.

If possible, Joo Joowon truly did not want to continue clearing upward floors.

Escaping would become inconvenient.

Running upward was bad.

Running downward was not much better.

However, if he still wanted experience points right now, then he had no choice but to keep going upward.

Leaving the building was still impossible at the moment.

Perhaps umbrellas and raincoats could temporarily block the rainwater outside, but what if something unexpected happened?

As long as the rain continued falling, Joo Joowon had no plans to leave the apartment complex to hunt zombies elsewhere.

After equipping Sixth Sense, he carefully headed upstairs.

At one of the stairway corners, he discovered two corpses.

One belonged to a human.

The other belonged to a zombie.

Perhaps someone had encountered an accident while fighting.

The moment he stepped onto the twelfth floor, Joo Joowon immediately felt his heartbeat grow heavy.

That meant there truly were zombies nearby.

And they were extremely close.

Without hesitation, he immediately began switching talents, replacing Sixth Sense with Mind’s Eye while raising his crossbow toward the emergency stairwell.

Talents were randomized during switching.

If luck was good, he could obtain the desired talent immediately.

If luck was bad, the process might drag on for several minutes.

Joo Joowon was not especially lucky, but he was not particularly unlucky either.

He belonged to the type whose luck remained strangely balanced.

During certain periods, his luck became extremely good.

Then during other periods, bad news would arrive one after another without stopping.

Fortunately, this time his luck was decent.

After only three attempts, he successfully switched talents.

Mind’s Eye only covered a one meter radius around him, so it could not reveal much useful information yet.

Joo Joowon carefully stepped into the emergency stairwell.

The rubber soles of his cotton shoes produced almost no sound against the floor.

The fire axe previously mounted on the emergency stairwell wall had already been taken by someone else.

Only a fire extinguisher remained.

Joo Joowon merely glanced at it before ignoring it completely and cautiously stepped into the twelfth floor corridor.

The corridor was pitch black and incredibly gloomy.

Thankfully, the third eye granted by Mind’s Eye differed from ordinary human vision.

It was not affected by brightness or darkness at all.

Because of that, Joo Joowon did not fear having his vision obstructed.

He stopped at the entrance of the hallway.

Through the faint sunlight filtering in from the emergency stairwell window, he could vaguely make out the white walls of the corridor and the small advertisements pasted across them.

Without the assistance of hallway lighting, the tiny amount of visible light only barely allowed people to distinguish the surrounding apartment doors.

However, under Mind’s Eye, every location untouched by light was covered in densely packed threads.

They decorated the entire corridor in a horrifyingly delicate manner.

No matter how careful or cautious someone might be, it would be impossible to avoid touching those threads completely.

Large octagonal spider webs stretched across every direction, turning the corridor into something resembling a demon spider cave waiting for prey to walk directly into the trap.

Joo Joowon cautiously glanced left and right.

However, because of the overwhelming darkness, he could barely gather any useful information.

Both ends of the corridor were swallowed by darkness.

Either direction looked as though terrifying monsters might be lurking there.

If the Chimera Zombie Joo Joowon encountered previously could only be considered a newborn infant, then the zombie occupying this floor was clearly a fully evolved complete form.

Not only did it possess the massive health pool expected of a boss monster, but it also seemed to possess boss skills as well.

No matter how he looked at it, this was not an enemy a beginner player still wearing novice equipment could solo kill.

Continuing deeper inside would simply be asking for death.

Joo Joowon had already decided to retreat.

Cold sweat continuously dripped down his back.

However, just as he prepared to withdraw, a black shadow suddenly burst out from the darkness of the corridor.

Only then did the system notification finally arrive belatedly.

[ Ding! ]

[ You have encountered a Lord Rank Boss. Combat status initiated. ]

[ Lord Rank Bosses cannot disengage from combat through normal methods. Combat will only end once one side completely loses all signs of life. ]

At this moment, Joo Joowon had no attention left to spare for the system notifications.

The comprehensive increase to his attributes had dramatically enhanced his reaction speed compared to before.

He instantly dodged the black shadow’s attack.

Only then did he finally see the attacker’s appearance clearly.

A wave of goosebumps immediately erupted across his entire body.

The appearance of ordinary level 1 zombies was not especially horrifying.

Their skin color and pupils simply no longer resembled those of humans.

Overall, they still roughly maintained a humanoid appearance.

From far away, anyone with poor eyesight might not even recognize them as monsters at all.

However, this zombie was completely different.

Although Joo Joowon had mentally prepared himself for the fact that some monsters would eventually surpass the limits of human aesthetics, he never expected to encounter one so soon.

The zombie before him crawled across the ground on all fours.

Its legs bent backward unnaturally.

Another pair of limbs had grown from both sides of its waist.

All three pairs of "walking legs" were covered in thick black fuzz.

Yet the most horrifying feature was the eight eyes covering its face.

They were arranged in two rows.

Meanwhile, what originally seemed to be canine teeth had fully transformed into spider fangs that occupied the entire lower half of its face.

Those fangs had violently torn apart the zombie’s original mouth in order to protrude outward from the inside of its jaw.

The appearance was grotesque and terrifying.
